If you're thinking, "Gee, there must not be much to write about for CBS" you'd be right. Vegas continues as "likely to be canceled". I'd love for there to be as many crazy Fan Excuse Bingo players for it as there were for Harry's Law last season, but that doesn't look likely. Unlike Harry's Law, which had a lot of irrlevant total viewers compared to the rest of the NBC dramas which gave hope to the misguided, the total viewership of Vegas is nothing special compared to other CBS dramas.

The only other thing to talk about "Which of CSI:NY, The Good Wife or The Mentalist gets canceled?" will be back next week. I bet you just can't wait!

Note to the nitpicky commenters, although its just about as certain as it gets, while the cast and crew have signed on for another season, How I Met Your Mother has not yet been officially renewed. 1/30 update. Now officially renewed.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.
*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

** The Renew/Cancel Index does not attempt to predict shows ending because the cast or production company chooses to end them. These shows have the ratings for renewal, but rumored cast/production company moves may end the shows.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

CBS killed CSI by moving it to Wednesday night and getting letting Grissom/William Peterson go. Then good news Vegas great show worth loosing an hour of sleep for and Elementary. Now I hear Vegas might be canceled well I guess I can get my sleep back. Best shows for our house on CBS, NCIS, Person of Interest, Vegas, Elementary, NCISLA and Two and a Half Men in that order. The rest is trash. Would not waste my time sometimes even change channels when there commercials come on. I will admit we are part of the so called older crowd but we still spend money too. So I hope that you will reconsider canceling Vegas!

  • Jeanne

Why Vegas? I also disagree with your “adult listing as 18-49″. So, the rest of us over 49 are dead? Don’t watch TV? Are too dumb to watch TV? I think if you would check – there are more of us over 49 then you think. We also like to watch shows that are NOT meant for anyone under 49. Like the shows you have and are cancelling. May I mention two that come to my mind? (and yes I have an excellent mind – probably better than a lot of the 18-49 “youngsters you have listed”.) Now, back to the shows that you have cancelled that us Old Folks liked. How about bringing back “Harry’s Law” AND not cancelling Vegas, as starters. You see? not many of us old farts write comments to you, but complain amoung ourselves, which is quite futal.

  • Holly

You can whine all you want about the 18-49 focus, but until you convince advertising companies to pay based on older viewers, it will be the most important measure for renewal/cancel decisions.

    Love vegas please keep

  • Ron Sapp

I sure hate to see Vegas cancelled. The Tuesday night line up seemed just right for us. You can tell by all the
commercials that “Golden Boy” is likely to be a big loser.

  • Dona

Is CBS trying to lose viewers over 50. All the shows that they are talking about cancelling are the show that I watch. Two and Half Men & How I Met Your Mother can go. They have no content and have run their course. Vegas, The Good Wife, CSI NY and The Mentalist should stay. CSI NY is perfect right where it is and so is Vegas. I wish you would move The Mentalist to 9:00 PM on Monday. Move Rules of Engagement to Thursday replacing Two and Half Men and Move the other two comedys on Monday to 8:00 and 8:30 PM. Works for me.

  • LilBiscuit

“Vegas” looks gone and “Rules of Engagement” is iffy, and yet two of the worse programs on television (CBS), “Two Broke Girls” & “Two and a Half Men” roll merrily along. There has to to be something seriously wrong with programming people at CBS. They have been dinking with “Rules…..” since its inception, bringing in one loser after another to try to replace it. And all they need to do with “Vegas” is give it a chance. “Goldenboy”? yuck.

  • Ed Mohrmann

The ONLY network shows I watch are on Tuesday night,
starting with NCIS and going through Vegas.

If Vegas gets cancelled and replaced with what looks like another
big-city LE drama, I’ll find another way to get my NCIS fix.

And probably get a lot more reading done !

    Keep VEGAS !

  • ron

Most of the programs should get the axe. Criminal minds has been around for ages. Hawaii 5-0 is dumb. The original tv series was much better. Vegas is turning into a nightime soap opera even though it is different. The original NCIS is ridiculous. NCIS LA is a little better. CSI is ok but I miss CSI Miami. To sum it up most if not all of these are mindless entertainment and I find myself reading the news or tuning to PBS or other like stations more often than turning to those other programs.

  • Tom Spencer

Vegas (CBS) is my favorite show. It’s one of the few shows for adults 40+. Hope advertisers know that these days, the 40+ is the growing demographic with money.

  • Cher

My favorite programs are on Tues., Thurs. and Fri. after the so-called comedy shows that are poor quality in my opinion. I do enjoy the Mentalist and not TGW. Hawaii 50 is okay, too. I like Vegas and will miss it. Judging from the previews of its replacement, I doubt that I’ll watch it.

  • Kangaroo

Hawaii,The Good wife, the,Survivor,I Met Your Mother,2 Broke Girls, The Big Bang Theory, New comedy. Should be cancelled.
All the NCIS,Vegas, are good shows, should stay.

  • Tom Porter

Vegas without a doubt is my favorite cop show and I sincerely hope another network will pick it up. NBC doesn’t give me much to watch anymore.

  • Kim

Please do not cancel Vegas or Good Wife…love them both!!!!!!!!
