Regarding B and B which I don’t watch…(just Y and R)…a lot of the ratings rise is people watching the ENTIRE CBS lineup. B and B for the most part has been consistent with no major behind the scenes changes like we’ve seen at ALL the other soaps. Most of their viewers and soap viewers in general, DON’T read blogs and soap websites…they just stick with the show they’ve been loyal to for years. People start to flee their shows when the characters change or change their behavior.

B and B has slowly risen consistently this past year or so, while the others have fluctuated. IMO.

I am sure that B&B is getting some rise with the CBS lineup being up. But B&B is the show that started the rise long before The Talk or Y&R did. In fact Y&R was dropping viewers for a long time while B&B was building its audience.

If B&B had not done that I don’t think B&B could have survived the loss of such key veterans as it has.

B&B began to rise during the final months of OLTL. They were very low in early 2011, but began building. And the whole time they didn’t even get any press or online chatter about it. None of the online reporters or the soap opera magazines printed one thing about how much they grew.

But then B&B has never had much of an online presence. They don’t get the magazine covers that Days, GH or even Y&R get. They never make any of the popularity polls online like the others.

Yet B&B is called the most watched TV show in the world. It is bigger overseas than it is even in the USA.

I for one love B&B and actually like it even better than Y&R now. And I am a big fan of the triangle. It is just classic soap to me. I think I love most about it is that it is 30 minutes. It doesn’t require a big time sacrifice and it is very easy to follow.

I am actually really surprise about days recent storytelling and dialogue these days. I don’t really wathc other soaps but I actually think days is getting back to those 90.s dialogue with black humor versus bitchy characters. I just love it!!! Every characters, even those who don’t chow off often has a deep connection with their past and other characters on the show. For long time fans, it’s one of the greatest gift that writers can give to their long time viewers. I actually wrote one year ago about how Hope, Jennifer, Sami, Carrie and Bo characters and actors were a huge candy for the viewers, as the character of Robin in GH who came back recently. Long time fans actually grow up with them, it’s something that not other series or shows cannot compete or even share. The family roots are also days should play with..having the upper class all american Horton, a middle class latino roots family, an italian mob family related to the show since 1983, an another greek origin family who still have some mafia roots ( they should play with that as well) since 1986 and not forget the Irish catholic ancestry Bradys who’s roots are all well play right now and actually boost the show right now.. Why not adding another core family to the mix, maybe a french family from Canada or france….since Chicago is not far away from Toronto or Montreal. That will be completly over the top … I just keep on dreaming…lolll Kudos to days for another 20 years!!!
    Congrats to all!!

Why does the writing on Y&R not make sense? (1) I crack up everytime they show Adam working at NEWMAN with this frantic pace always flipping through folders with papers or constantly keying in things on the lap top. NE has been around for what 50 years? and apparantly is ALREADY successful, after all Victor is a billionaire. They portray Adam as if he’s trying to get a NEW company off the ground. He would only need to maintain the business. I don’t get his constant work panic mode that the writers give him….

  • TimsDale4ever

    (2) Why does Mac take a job at Nick’s knowing damn well he will run into Avery there since he already knows they are an item and then hides when she arrives? Didn’t he come to town looking for her? Why run away everytime she shows up? And that panic look on his face when he realizes she’s about to show up kills me. A normal person would think she would be hanging around her boyfriend’s business constantly, right?

  • TimsDale4ever

    (3) It cracks me up that the detective can find Noah regardless of where he’s at to ask him about Adrianna for the 1000th time, but can’t find the twit Adrianna in the same small town. Just follow Noah around and you’ll eventually get her. And he’s already run into her at least twice already so why do they keep having scenes with him and Noah where’s he’s constantly asking Noah have you been in touch with her?

  • TimsDale4ever

Sorry everyone — I just had to get all that off my chest.

  • jonboyelk

I don’t know if it was the writing or staging or directing but those last few acts of Y&R Monday were ignorant. The airgead cop getting handcuffed to the banister, Dylan leaving his rock on the bar and worst of all, Avery walking into a busy mightclub, throwing her bag down on a table and going off to neck with Nick, then returning to the table to retrieve her bag. I can’t think of a nightclub where that bag wouldn’t have been long gone. Very sloppy!

DOOL is still a big disappointment. The writing is terrible. Again, if you know the history of this show and have a brain, there is no way you can really be into this show. Y&R is the same way. The only thing decent going on on that show is the fact that they have brought in some new faces that the writers have not ruined yet. Give it a few weeks. I am not really into the new faces, but hopefully some of the writers on this show will put their brains to use and come up with something really good. Fingers crossed for some bold freshness.

  • TimsDale4ever

Thank you Jonboy — the show (Y&R) is filled with this type of stupid writing. Like last week when the show wrote Tucker off the show for good. The character has been around for about 2 years I guess, and he and Katherine have done nothing but b-itch, gripe, and groan at each other the entire 2 years. THEN when he goes over to her house and says he’s leaving town, they get all teary eyed, sad, and huggy about his leaving. They even show Katherine collasping in a chair after he leaves throwing her hands in the air and moaning. Huh??????? A more believable scene would have been for Katherine to tell him to not let the door hit him in the azz on the way out. THAT would have been completely believable scene.

I lOVE to pick at this almost completely out of focus show!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jonboyelk

Ya know, I think the story idea is there and I believe the headwriter knows what he’s doing but something goes awry when it gets to the breakdown crew. That was really lame Monday and Tuesday with Avery constantly running back to see Dylan and Nick not figuring it out (then again, let’s face it, Nick has never been the sharpest knife in the drawer). I pulled out some old tapes I’d hung on to from the late 80s/early 90s and what a difference! Show was always heavy on dialogue, but the lighting, staging and costuming held you to the screen….and the dialogue was intelligent and had a point. They need to get some of that back. If I hear dumb Nick call his son “dude” one more time…..

  • TimsDale4ever

One thing that would help Y&R greatly is to write the show in reverse from the way it is written now. The show has no surprises for the viewer. We basically know everything already and are waiting for the characters to catch up. That’s not a well entertaining show. I would have written the Avery situation differently. I would have shown Dylon or Dillon in his room (but NOT looking at anyone’s picture). The viewer would realize he’s in town for someone but not sure exactly who. He would not have gotten a job at the bar cause then you would know he’s looking for Avery. Then he could have shown up at the opening and run into Avery (all in the very first scene also — not 5 scenes later with him gazing at her from every corner in all 5 scenes) and it would not only have been a huge shock for her but possibly for the viewer as well.

  • LynTX

Y&R is so disappointing lately – OK, disappointing for a while. LOL! I’ve stopped watching; just can’t with the newbies being forced on viewers; nonsensical, duplicate s/ls; no drama!

Not sure what TPTB are trying to do other than get sweeps #s. But how do they get ahead of its #s from 2012, 2011? I measure a show on its yr-over-yr #s. Y&R is losing viewers – do they care?

Jackie Zeman posted on her facebook page that she will be returning to GH As Bobbie very soon so now the person that keeps posting for her to come back can stop and be excited as we all are for her return. Also reports are that John Stamos visited the set of GH yesterday. Could he be returning for a short stint during the 50th anniversary? Stay tuned

  • Jeff

Just read GH is finally bringing back Bobbie! They said something about 3 shows for now, but it needs to be permanent, like Felicia and Monica where she interjects as needed to interact with Carly, Anna, Luke, Felicia, Mac, Monica, Liz, etc, etc. Don’t be stupid Frank and Ron, the fans want her back more than they want Sabrina pining after Patrick or Johnny wandering around town chasing after Carly after killing lord knows how many people or Epiphany huffing around the hospital. Put her in with Scotty and Laura and Heather and Luke and Carly and for crying out loud, bring back Lucas and get him all hooked up with Felix!

  • David

@Jeff considering GH’s current ratings I hardly doubt that people are unhappy with the Britt-Sabrina-Patrick storyline and I am glad Jackie Zeman will be back but hardly doubt her return would have a huge impact on the ratings one way or the other

  • jonboyelk

Yeah well, hate to say it, a better use some darker lighting with the veterans. This harsh lighting is showing off every wrinkle and imperfection. Jack Wagner looked a little scary yesterday.

  • Jeff

I am pretty sure Sabrina has nothing to do with any ratings increase. And, not saying Bobbie will increase the ratings. Great drama increases the ratings, and Bobbie can create and support a lot of drama with major characters. Sabrina can create gross–icky–babysitter loves daddy type drama with Patrick, and looks like a little girl compared to Britt.

  • David

Lighting may be part of it but considering the budgets the network force them to work with is probably part of the reason for that. Plus since HD has come along things like that show up a lot easier if lighting isn’t done correctly

  • robert sprague
