Nielsen TV Ratings: ©2013 The Nielsen Company. All Rights Reserved.

NOTE: All ratings are "live plus same day" from Nielsen Media Research unless otherwise indicated.

Definitions:

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.  More information on ratings is available here.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    Actually, Beauty and the Beast was tied for #3 in the W18-34 demo (that’s the key female demo for the CW) this week.

    W18-34
    Vampire Diaries 1.9
    Carries Diaries 1.0
    Supernatural 0.8
    Beauty and the Beast 0.8

  • Richard Steven Hack

    Not surprised Nikita dipped. What’s worse is that it was another stand alone episode that really was not that interesting. This could cost Nikita ratings next week.

    They need to get Amanda back in the game and get a overall story line going that will go through the rest of the episodes. These stand alone episodes are NOT what the show is about. Serious mistake.

    Of course in the end it doesn’t really matter because the show is almost certainly going to get a fourth season anyway due to WB wanting overseas syndication. But I certainly don’t want the show to get BORING during these two seasons!

  • William

    Tell you what, CBS is two for two and with the Super Bowl on Sunday, they can almost clinch the book by Wednesday. The race may be for second.

  • Richard Steven Hack

    By the way, I can’t wait for the announcement that Nikita will get a fourth season, so I can spend every week next fall and spring of 2014 here rubbing it in the noses of the Nikita haters – just like I had to endure that crap from all the Fringe sycophants this season.

  • Fake Me Out

    @JJA
    …I don’t think Nikita’s numbers on Friday are on the CW’s radar right now.

    When you’re flying that low, you’re below everyones radar …

  • coolioni

    I already miss Fringe bigtime!
    Now I have nothing to watch on riday nights !
    Right now there really is not many shows that I am looing foward to seeing weekly!

  • John A

    Yeah nothing on friday worth watching or rooting for.

  • networkman

    Last Man Standing is able to garner more viewers than Suburgatory, even though that show airs after Modern Family on a Wednesday Night.

  • Ram510

    @Seth

    Thanks for the post. If only season 1 # were also posted then it can finally be settled that Nikita was on fact not the lowest rated show in the CW ALL 3 years. Some people just need to look at the facts first before they open their mouth and shout out nonsense

  • thesnowleopard

    @Tessa
    It’s not uncommon among failing shows to see praise of them increase right off the chain the more audience they lose. This appears to be a result of casual and critical audience members dropping off, leaving only the most uncritical, devoted fans. The problem arises when the show doesn’t have enough devoted fans to survive because it’s not pleasing enough viewers in the right demos. It’s actually much better to have healthy ratings and vociferous debate among those still watching than to see a complete consensus among fans and very poor ratings. “It’s the bestest show on TV evah, you big meanies!” is not actually a good sign.

    Quality has nothing to do with it.

    @Andrew
    I don’t see what’s so confusing about SPN’s move. It was second on the network, in its eighth season, in the worst slot of the week, while garnering Live+7 ratings that indicated it might increase its live demos if moved elsewhere. I’ve known Golden Retrievers with dinner time thought processes more mysterious than what was behind the decision to move SPN off Fridays.

  • thesnowleopard

    @Richard Steven Hack

    More likely, once the fourth (and almost certainly final) season is announced, if it’s announced, there will be the usual dropoff of interest in ratings among fans of the doomed borderline show, since a fixed end date effectively means cancellation, however delayed. At that point, ratings *really* won’t matter. In reaction, most other posters will promptly forget the show is on, anymore, since overinvested fans of Doomed Borderline Shows are the ones who keep this dance going in the first place. There isn’t anything very exciting about a show getting a fourth season solely due to syndication hopes. The only unusual thing with Nikita is how sorely its bad ratings must be testing the network and studio’s syndication resolve, and the question of whether those ratings are quite bad enough to overcome that factor.

    This means Friday threads could end up being very quiet, unless some other low-rated cult show hits Fridays next fall, but hey, there’s always Grimm.

  • Richard Steven Hack

    thesnowleopard: v”Quality has nothing to do with it.”

    It certainly doesn’t, because Nikita is an extremely high quality show.

    “The only unusual thing with Nikita is how sorely its bad ratings must be testing the network and studio’s syndication resolve, and the question of whether those ratings are quite bad enough to overcome that factor.”

    And as I’ve indicated, the odds are that both WB and the CW are well aware of that and WERE well aware of that at end of last season when the deal was made. But the deal was made.

    “since a fixed end date effectively means cancellation, however delayed.”

    Nothing like stating the obvious…

  • Sonicphoto

    I don’t know why everyone is saying nikita is flopping right now, it has better numbers than 90210 so no, it’s not the worst show in ratings for the CW, and Nikita did a great premiere on its first season, unlike Carrie Diaries. Nikita won’t lose people because of a final 4th season, on the contrary they know it’s ending properly so they can continue to watch. It is airing on a friday, which is basically a dead day for shows. Also, it’s not my fault that I don’t have a magic rating box.

    You actually think that because Nikita had a higher rating than 90210 for a single week, that it is now the higher rated show?

    No wonder everyone else’s comments confuse you. Here’s what we see…

    90210 – 0.4, 0.6, 0.4, 0.4, 0.6, 0.4, 0.5, 0.5, 0.6, 0.4, 0.4 (average 0.5)

    Nikita D: please watch it! best show on cw!

  • erwanfromfrance

    The Voice begun in france saturday at 9 and it’s a huge hit : 9.34 millions viewers and a 40.7% share !

  • Brownsville

    Nikita might’ve dipped but you guys forget real quick how low Nikita’s ratings were before it moved up an hour. Nikita is consistently one of CW’s most viewed shows of the week.

    As for TGIF, their Friday comedies might rate low in the demo but their real strong in the viewership area and already less lead-in dependent than Neighbors and Suburgatory are. LMS and MC would be their two highest rated comedies every week if it wasn’t for The Middle and Modern Family.
