via press note:

Last night’s late starting post Super Bowl broadcast of Elementary (11:15PM-12:15AM) averaged 12.0/24 in the metered markets and is on track to being the freshman drama’s most watched episode and highest rated in key demographics. The 11:15 start is the latest for any post Super Bowl program

Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (12:45-1:45 AM) averaged a preliminary 3.2/11.

Time zone adjusted fast nationals will be available later today.

How many people were actually watching the show?

Or people were either so tired and/or drunk, they forgot to turn the TV off after the game!

  • lisa

I can’t stand Lucy Liu so I don’t watch Elementary.

Craig Ferguson was pretty good, though. The opening (actually with Liu) with Craig causing the Super Bowl power outage was pretty funny.

I love all this arguing over whether Elementary is a ‘hit’ or miss. Clearly its not a hit but its not a flop either. Its behind a lot of ten pm shows CSI, Revolution, Scandal etc. However it is also not that far behind CSI and right up alongside HFO most weeks and it beats the other ten pm shows on CBS. It’s a decent performer and I doubt they’ll cancel it because really, their other ten pm shows aren’t doing much better. It ain’t going anywhere so the haters will have to get over it. And I don’t watch it myself – I found it boring as hell – but its numbers aren’t terrible as some like to make out.

I wonder what it’d be like instead of a drama of sorts, if they played a new episode of 2 different comedies. Notably, TBBT and TAAHM, with the ratings and shares they already get

Elementary is a hit and hopefullly will have a 8 to 10 year run…It is that good.
    Love Lucy Liu.

Somebody called BigBrotherFan dares to say Elementary is bad? Let me LOL.

  • ToXiX

    Hahahaha.

CBS will renew it for next season and cancel it next may when they have better dramas introduced next season.

  • Liz

It’s already a hit, and a few million extra fans would be fine. It doesn’t need them tbh. I don’t understand the panic, it didn’t fail at 10pm, it failed because NOLA didn’t pay the electricity bill on time…

People saying it won’t or isn’t a hit haven’t actually seen it’s numbers or even watched the show, and the reaction to it from fans. It is a HUGE hit, and people are obsessed with it.

  • Nathan

Wow great numbers, those few Sherlock, TBBT or POEfans are a little embarrassing.

That is maybe the saddest press release I’ve seen in quite some time. CBS is clearly trying to bury those paltry two lines about Elementary’s poor showing and hoping the press will rush to write the articles about the highest rated SB of all time. “The highest rated Elementary episode of all time, wow!” said no one.

It it holds at 12, that will be the second worst 18-49 viewer retention ever (after Alias).

To those who are hating on Elementary – well, to each his/her own. Personally, I LOVE the fact that CBS has Person of Interest and Elementary airing back-to-back on Thursday nights. I haven’t considered Thursday as my favorite TV night of the week for quite some time, until this season. And A LOT of that is due to both of those shows being on one after the other. (I know some people are rooting for it to be taken off of the Thursday night roster next season, but for my part, I’m hoping CBS keeps it there.)

And yeah, while I was browsing the Internet last night, I did notice more chatter/buzz about the post-Superbowl episode of Elementary, and it was mostly positive.

To me, the show is a hit. Maybe not the HUGE hit that TBBT is, but it has managed to become a hit this season.

It came on too late !! I love the show and I DVRed it because I had to get up early today !!

Post super bowl X Files did much better than this years ago, I believe. Elementary is overrated. CBS is forcing it to be a hit, when in reality it aint that much.

Ah yes, the power of magical thinking. “If a show is a huge hit in my mind, that translates to ratings.”

The reality of Elementary’s numbers is that its average is 2.3, which is below both CBS’s scripted average for this season and The Mentalist’s average in the same timeslot last season (2.6). (With the same competition (Scandal) The Mentalist handily pulled a 2.5+ rating for every first run episode, save two.) Elementary is also the only Thursday CBS show that fails to win its timeslot and has failed to increase. I’d have to check the numbers, but I believe that thanks to Elementary, this season is the first time in 5 years that CBS has failed to win Thursdays at 9.

It’s not an outright Made in New Jersey style flop, but it’s nowhere near a “HUGE hit” like TBBT or even NCIS. It will probably be renewed, because CBS won’t want to go 0-4 this season, but it will be moved to a much less cushy timeslot (Fridays, Sundays and Mondays are all a possibility depending on what veterans get renewed) where it will probably struggle to average 2.0 and be quietly canceled, either midseason or after a second season. CBS will counter the bad press it’s getting as the big slop after the Super Bowl by trying to act like it doesn’t exist, which is the network does with the shows that displease it but aren’t doing badly enough to outright cancel.

    20.8 million viewers for Elementary.

  • Matt

that is great considering the starting time

  • Kenny

I LOVE Craig Ferguson but his show didn`t go on til 1 am in Philly and sad to say it wasn`t that good, I LOVE ya Craig but it wasn`t that good buddy!!

  • Gavin

Elementary is amazing. That is amazing viewership considering its starting time plus critical reception for the episode is overly positive. It was a win for the show and it doubled its regular audience. I just hope a lot of the new audience stick around. It’s just a shame it could have been higher if not for that unfortunate delay.

  • Oliver

That’s pretty good. I bet it skewed old, though, and 18-49 isn’t quite as flattering.
