In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. And given the current ratings for shows on the CW, the last two weeks of 0.7 adults 18-49 ratings for Beauty & The Beast makes it at least a prince. For that reason, I have elevated my prediction for it to likely to be renewed. Fans shouldn't get too excited, if the ratings go back down, so will my prediction. And after getting burned by the late season plunge for The Secret Circle, I'm extra twitchy this season.

If last night's 0.7 rating for The Carrie Diaries isn't just a temporary blip, things are about to get a lot more interesting at the CW. Even I doubt Mark Pedowitz would cancel a show drawing a 0.7 rating, to give a final season to a show drawing a 0.4 rating (90210). And if both The Carrie Diaries and Beauty & The Beast can maintain those 0.7's while Hart Of Dixie is stuck at a 0.5, then things get worrisome for HOD fans.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the CW Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @Sarah moss
yes .7 is terrible, but they can’t cancel everything. CW can’t afford to launch more than 3 new shows in fall and 2 winter/spring

  • Brandy

I think if 90210 and Cult are cancelled this season, Carrie Diaries,Beauty & the Beast,HoD could all be renewed.I think if Carrie Diaries stays at 0.6-0.7(preferably 0.7) or keep growing, it and HoD will be renewed over Beauty just because they’re . Self starters and Beauty has the best lead possible but it’s only doing ok there and if it’s renewed, it’ll move and most lilkeycollapse and die and I’m not sure CW would risk it since they didn’t for SC last year. Harts closer to syndication though then Beauty or Carrie Diaries.I think, especially now, programming only nine hours a week,Pedowitz will try to syndicate Nikita, 90210,,HoD, VD before CW closes in 2015-2016.

    @Brandy
BatB will be renewed over HoD. HoD got it second chance already and failed to grow as an audience. So don’t be so sure

“BatB will be renewed over HoD. HoD got it second chance already and failed to grow as an audience. So don’t be so sure”

Maybe not. If they stay with similar numbers, HOD is still way closer to syndication, plus it’s proven to be not so lead-in dependent like BaTB is with TVD.

  • Jared

Any chance the CW would bring back HoD as a Summer series?..from what I remember it did pretty well last Summer considering they were repeats.

  • DougF

0.7 for CW shows is not terrible. 0.2 or 0.3 is terrible. Heck Justified and White Collar which are considered good shows especially Justified which has a lot of critical acclaim got 0.9 last week.

  • CrystalBall

I think B&TB is still a bubble show, with 0.7 it will most likely be moved to another night, and I think pairing it with a lower rated show than TVD would decrease it’s rating to 0.6/0.5 (HoD level) or even lower if it’s on friday.
Plus it only has 2 weeks with 0.7.

  • KT

If they cancel HoD, I’m DONE with CW. I look forward to HoD more than higher rated shows on different networks on Tuesday.

  • gerry

anyone saying BatB is a self starter doesn’t know the meaning of self-starter, since its fully lead-in dependent. its probably a fine enough show and might get renewed, but i honestly think since TVD is the net’s strongest show, they should use it to prop up a new show in the fall and a new show in the spring, move the previous shows to other nights (if its moderately successful) to see how they can manage on their own.

TCD is a self-starter and while i still think its too early to speculate since it might adjust down, TCD seems to be growing. as i’ve posted elsewhere the CW is obviously behind it since it re-airs EVERYWHERE…. if it can hold its numbers, i think its a shoe-in for renewal.

CW – just announce the end of 90210 so it can close this season and the fans can have a satisfying ending.

i thought the premise of cult was great, but all the reviews i’ve heard say its awful, so i probably won’t bother. i’m vested in TCD at this point and would rather see that stick around anyhow.

  • Lainey

I would be really surprised if Carrie Diaries holds it’s 0.7. Even if it does, is that enough to keep it around? The CW obviously spent a TON of money on this show. They did just as big of an advertising campaign for TCD as they did for ARROW, but Arrow actually paid off. Not to mention it films in NYC and takes place in the 80’s- not cheap. It’s highly unlikely The CW is making a return on their TCD investment anywhere close to what they’d planned on. Unless Carrie Diaries starts doing OVER a 1.0 regularly, common sense would say it’s a goner.

For the record, there was hardly any promotion for BATB and absolutely ZERO for Hart of Dixie this season- both shows are doing better than TCD. Just saying…

  • Fake Me Out

Article @ TVGuide suggests TCD may be saved by the CW deals w/Hulu & Netflix as part of the way the tv business is changing.

    fyi & ymmv

  • Nerdbot

Glad to see that Nikita is not at thr bottom of the list! It may be just above 90210 (as it is the only show on air below Nikita), but, somehow, it works for me.

  • glover

It’s soon to say for sure that B&B will be renewed. The show is on the edge. If it falls back to .5’s in the next weeks the show will be in trouble. But I hope it stays steady, gets renewed and doesn’t become another dead walking show on the CW =/

  • Chris.2.0

This spells trouble for Heart of Dixie..

So what’s up with Nikita? Is it like 99 percent certain it will get picked up for another season because of syndication ? ? Or there is a chance it will get axed?

  • erin

Don’t Understand why 90210 raitngs are dropping, 90210 is one of my favorite cw shows
    I hope 90210 gets a full season 6
I hope Supernatural gets 25 seasons on the cw network
I Hope Carrie Diares.Vampire Dairies, Supernatural,Hart of Dixie Nkita, Beauty And The Beast gets renewed
    Cancel American Next Top Model

  • MM

I like HoD. I think it’s a cute, funny show that doesn’t require much thinking. However, I really wish there would be some other real storyline(s) besides the many convulted love stories/triangles/relationships of the characters – i don’t just mean an episode here and there focussing on a quirky town event. And while the relationships angle has been done well thus far, it’s starting to become a tad tedious with no other storyline to focus on. I think if HoD wish to get renewed for a 3rd season, they may have to take a look at that.

  • Bizarro

I think it is time for 90210 to end, a ton of shows end in their fifth seasons and 90210 got over a 100 eps. But I do hope that HOD will get back to 0.6’s and 0.7’s and continue to do good in DVR ratings. I also hope B&TB will stay stable as well though getting 0.6’s and 0.7’s and the occasional 0.8. I don’t watch TCD and that is the only CW show that I’m not really taking time to invest in but I think AnnaSophie Robb is a good young actress but I’m a devoted follower to HOD and Beauty. So I hope HOD can go up again tonight and stay away from the pesky 0.5’s.

You may be confusing my methods with Robert’s. It’s never to soon for me.

If it falls back, I will change the prediction.

We hope to see another season of Beauty and the Beast
