Predict the Ratings for the Premiere of 'Community' - Poll

Tonight Community finally returns. Originally, it was supposed to launch in the fall on Fridays, but NBC postponed its debut several times. It will be a new era for the low rated cult comedy after the acrimonious departure of the show's creator Dan Harmon at the end of last season. Will the show's passionate fans accept the new showrunners' take on the show? The season finale on May 17 garnered a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating. Its prior season premiere on September 22, 2011 earned a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating. How will it fare tonight against the juggernauts of The Big Bang Theory and American Idol? Given what a rough week it has been for NBC, the Greendale Human Beings are going to need a miracle to succeed. Make your predictions below.

    full night
    Community- 1.3
    Parks and Rec- 1.6
    The Office- 1.9
    1600 Penn- 1.1
    Do No Harm- 0.7

    I think it’ll get 1.3-1.4.

In the past, the show has premiered (or returned from hiatuses (hiati?)) well.

The problem is that it doesn’t stay at those numbers, and especially if people don’t like the New Coke taste (reviews seem to be that the new showrunners have mediocrely emulated Harmon’s voice, meaning that the new version doesn’t appeal to the mass audience OR the fans who watched because of Harmon), I don’t see it staying above 1.0 for long.

Personally, I’ll be watching to the bitter end – which I still think has a good chance of being a 2 hour DVD/Comedy Central movie chopped up into the final four episodes to get them to 88.

A 1.2. NBC’s Thursday lineup is doing dreadfully, so Community will fit right in there.

  • David Howell

    1.4 and then down afterwards.

Even that might not be enough to cancel it – it’s already got a syndication deal, and I’m sure that’ll make season 5 cheaper.

I’d laugh if it got six seasons by way of seasons 4-6 being a handful of episodes each, and the “movie” was a 60-minute season finale that NBC paid to air live in cinemas. That’d actually pretty much sum up the show, thinking about it.

yeahhh community is back, hope its good! probably will be the last season anyways shows are never the same after creator leaves

    will beat MOdern family

My guess is 1.0 or 1.1

Sadly I think it will come in at a low 1. There has been almost no promotion for the shows return. Hell Smash had a bigger finale last year and had way more promotion going into it’s debut this season and still only got a 1.2

I notice a lot of people saying they’re being cautious because of how Smash returned, but I’m gonna go ahead and say that the fan bases of Community and Smash are much, MUCH different. I’d say it’ll come back to a 1.5. The fans have been making a lot of noise and when they did the same thing for the second half of season 3, it came back to a 2.2. I predict a similar, but more subtle, result.

NBC aired promos during the Emmys, during the Pro Bowl, during SNL and last Thursday during the 30 Rock finale. It’s probably been given the most promotion it’s had since season 1.

The Study Hard promo is pretty good, too:

  • Bob

    full night
    Community- 1.1
    Parks and Rec- 1.3
    The Office- 1.6
    1600 Penn- 1.0
    Do No Harm- 0.4

NBC has had a dreadful week and unfortunately for the fans it will continue.

@Max … Even coming from a fan, your comment made me laugh. Damn you lol

Considering the current state of NBC comedies I really wouldn’t be surprised if Community returns lower than what maybe expected. Community was never a huge hit but it does have a small but extremely loyal fan base. Hopefully they turn up for the premiere.

  • Kavyn

Hopefully enough to renew it over other recent flops. I’m going to say around a 1.4 but hopefully higher.

  • TeeVeeViewer

Not expecting much from it, but I’ll tune in just to see what, if anything, has changed. I like McHale and most of the cast, but their self-aware, we’re-a-TV-show-and-we-like-to-throw-out-pop-culture-references-to-prove-we’re-hip format got old early in the first season. NBC should’ve let this show die and let McHale’s agent continue looking for better sitcoms than “Community.”

  • Alex

    Hopefully 1.5 or better.
Won’t go below a 1 though, it’s got a pretty strong retaining audience.
