TV Ratings Wednesday: 'Modern Family', 'American Idol', 'Chicago Fire' & 'Nashville' Dip; 'Arrow', 'The Neighbors' & 'Suburgatory' Up

NOTE: Adults 18-49 usage was down -4% from 8-10pm last night versus last week.

FOX was the number one network in adults 18-49 and with total viewers.

On FOX, American Idol scored a 4.6 adults 18-49 rating down 16 percent from last week’s 5.5.

On ABC, The Middle earned a 2.3 among adults 18-49 down 8 percent from a 2.5 for its last episode on January 23.  The Neighbors garnered a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating up 13 percent from last week’s 1.6 adults 18-49 rating. Modern Family scored a season low 3.8 adults 18-49 rating down 10 percent  from a 4.2 for its most recent new episode on January 23. Suburgatory, featuring very special guest star The Cancellation Bear, notched a 2.1, up 17 percent from last week’s 1.8 adults 18-49 rating.  Nashville earned a series low 1.7 among adults 18-49 down 11 percent from a 1.9 on January 23.

On CBS, Criminal Minds scored a 2.7 adults 18-49 rating down 13 percent from a 3.1 on January 23. CSI, which was part 1 of a CSI/CSI:NY crossover, garnered a 2.4 down 8 percent among adults 18-49 from a 2.6 on January 23.

ON NBC, Whitney earned a 1.2 , down 8 percent from last week’s 1.3 adults 18-49 rating. Guys With Kids scored a  1,.2, up 9 percent from last week’s 1.1 adults 18-49 rating. Law & Order SVU, featuring controversial guest star Mike Tyson, garnered a 1.5, down 12 percent from last week’s 1.7. Chicago Fire notched a 1.8, down 14 percent from last week’s 2.1. The majority of you accurately predicted that Chicago Fire would beat Nashville.

On the CW, Arrow garnered a 1.0  adults 18-49 rating,  up 11 percent from last week’s 0.9. Supernatural scored a 0.9 among adults 18-49, even with last week.

Definitions: Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    Good ratings for Supernatural and Arrow. I didn’t understand Supernatural episode yesterday, thanks to its convoluted plot. And please tell me, that she is Oliver’s step mother.

    No, a 1.8 on NBC is not great right now. CHICAGO FIRE is no hit, by any means.

    The only new drama on NBC this season that is a hit is REVOLUTION. Everything else is a failure.

    Terrible for Nashville with such a huge lead-in.. ABC went from a 3.8 to a 1.7. Chicago Fire actually gained ratings for NBC.
