Idol is hitting a wall, falling to a 4.6 after debuting this season nearly a full point higher. Granted, they are in the Hollywood rounds, which traditionally have been the low point of the season since viewers aren’t seeing train wrecks like William Hung in the audition rounds, nor have they gone to the live episodes yet. But this has to be a little bit disturbing for FOX. They better hope this is just a speed bump and not a sign of things to come.

Even so, it’s in far better shape than Nashville. It’s beginning to fall below Chicago Fire, which hasn’t exactly burned up in the ratings but apparently has developed a loyal niche audience. If this keeps up, it looks like the cancellation bear may be headed to the Grand Ole Opry.

Nashville’s numbers don’t look great, but the Live + 7 Day numbers look amazing (10 million viewers). Will this be enough for ABC to renew?

no lie, let me try to explain simple facts. cf demo 1.9 equals 2 million. the population of l. a. is 4.2 million inside city limits. so im being generous about half the city of l. a. watching. cf total viewers 6.6 million. the population of nyc 8.4 million. total population of U.S.A. 325 million. understand now? nobody is watching. i dont capitalze nyc or l a because i hate the teams that ae there! lol

    are there ok?

@Tessa, I sometimes think of tumblr as its own alternate universe, but that is a good example of why SN might have a good younger demo. Sometimes I wonder if some of the writing changes in the last few years have been partially from encouragement by a younger demo, like bringing in a teen character, some of the changes to Dean’s character, a little better representation, etc. If so I can’t complain, as I like those changes.

I thought last night’s episode was one of the best this season so I was very pleased that got adjusted to 1.0. I think the last time they got 1.0 was early November wasn’t it? Great to see an episode go up. With Survivor on next week they will lose some but at least they’re holding up for now.

Very happy the Mike Tyson stunt backfired on SVU. Someone got too cynical.

:( Modern Family. What happened? The ratings should be going up, with the baby and all.

I hear there was a Cancellation Bear cameo on Suburgatory last night. I’m behind on it so I’ll catch up right away.

The Elimination Game post has reached its 60-day comment limit again. Could you post another one if your not too busy? Thanks.

Why can’t everyone see that the neighbors will be renewed? It is doing pretty good for a show that had 0 hype around it, no name actors, and going from modern family lead in to the middle lead in. I would imagine that due to the low amount of CGI and the no name actors that it would be pretty cheap to produce. Also, critics don’t matter. What matters is ratings, and neighbors is doing a decent enough job pulling them in that Bill thinks that it’s likely renewal. And Bill is almost never wrong. So quit whining and calling for blood at Bill’s prediction. It’ll be renewed and then you can stop wasting our damn time.

neighbors is great… just started watching and really surprising how good it is… i think it’s def coming back… it’s held up pretty well all season…

Wow, Supernatural, you done good. And Arrow isn’t doing too shabby, either. I didn’t care much for last night’s SPN episode, but it’s nice to see that the new mytharc storyline seems to be keeping the demo up. Not bad for an eight-and-a-half-year-old workhorse!

  • Moe

Wow, Supernatural adjusted up to a 1! Dang, impressed.

I wonder if the CW will just announce early renewals for TVD, SPN, and Arrow? I mean, it seems like those three are absolutely a given. Why not get them out of the way and then concentrate on the rest of the line up?

  • Pepper

This is why I think they’ll keep SPN/Arrow together next year – the two shows do well together!

  • Kellyd

Great job SPN! Im so proud of you guys! Their ratings would be much higher actually if those of us over 50 were counted.

  • GARebelman

I don’t see Supernatural staying where it is. Arrow will be used to launch a new show. I have no clue where they will put Supernatural in the fall.

  • Paleonut

Wow! Supernatural season GR8 FTW! I love how well Arrow and SPN work together… I hope the CW keeps this pairing, to season 10 and beyond!

  • Van

Arrow and SPN are so tight! Love this pairing and how well they are working together!

  • yeaisaidit

Are viewers finally realizing Modern Family isn’t funny anymore? Most overrated show on television.

  • Blue Sunflower

I’d like to fanwank CM’s numbers are dropping because of their shark-jumping episode, “Zugzwang”.

I know it’s probably not true, but here’s hoping. It’d be the only way to wipe the smiles off the writers who tweet about what an awesome decision they made and how they hope the audience is happy with it. I think this is the only time I’d accept a Bobby-in-the-shower type retcon.

You do realize that the last time they paired SPN with a comic book show, they were paired for several seasons, right? So, there is a precedent for keeping SPN with another comic book show when they appear to improve each other’s ratings. It seems that the only reason you have for the CW moving SPN anywhere is because you want the network to kill off its third-highest-rated show. Which is as silly as thinking Arrow is in any danger just because it skews a bit old and has dipped below a 1.0 once after a half-season.

The thing with older shows that are still doing well in the ratings is that the side income like syndication and Netflix really comes into play. With SPN doing so well, there is no reason to sweat all that nice income coming in just from making new episodes on top of an already extensive library, which means the show can go on indefinitely in its current state. So, while you may not care where SPN is scheduled next season, I’m sure the CW will giving it considerably more thought.

Just a theory about Criminal Minds’ ratings this season.

Canada is airing Criminal Minds one day earlier. This could affect the ratings for the current season… =)

  • Bob

I think it is nutz to say that American Idol is a flop when it STILL beats everything for the night. I think every network would LOVE to have Idol numbers. Funny that NBC lovers are the first to say that Idol is a disaster…
