via press release:

ABC won Friday in Adults 18-49 over season premiere/series debut programming on the other nets, outdelivering NBC by 14%, CBS by 23% and Fox by 60%. ABC’s Shark Tank was the #1 TV show of the night in Adults 18-49. Up 7% week to week, the Net matched its top-rated Friday since November 9, 2012.

At 8pm, ABC’s Last Man Standing won its half-hour in viewers and young adults over CBS’ series debut of The Job and Fox’s season premiere of Touch. Building week to week in Total Viewers (+6%) and Adults 18-49 (+14%), Last Man Standing earned its best numbers since November – since 11/9/12 and 11/30/12, respectively.

Like its lead-in, ABC’s Malibu Country beat out premiere programming on CBS and Fox in the 8:30pm half hour with Total Viewers and Adults 18-49. Gaining over the prior week (+3%/+8%), Malibu Country drew its biggest audience since December 14, 2012 and its highest Adult 18-49 number since January 11, 2013. Through the most recent season-to-date Nielsen data (19 complete weeks), ABC’s Malibu Country is now TV’s most-watched new comedy, surpassing NBC’s The Voice-boosted Go On.

Surging from its lead-in by 46% to stand as Friday’s top-rated show, ABC’s Shark Tank won the 9 o’clock hour in Adults 18-49, beating CBS’ CSI: NY by 19%, the second hour of NBC’s 2-hour Dateline by 27% and the second hour of Fox’s 2-hour Touch premiere by 111%.

During the 10pm hour, ABC’s 20/20 defeated NBC’s time-period premiere of Rock Center with Brian Williams in the Adult 25-54 news demo (+6%).

Last Man Standing and Malibu Country may have some life left in them.

  • Melissa

Glad to see TGIF back on top!

  • WJ

It’s not TGIF, Melissa! Not yet…

  • American

Whoa…now Malibu’s higher than Go On? I guess it was really lead-in dependent…Still like both :)

Malibu is the season’s most-watched new comedy? Not saying a heckuva lot, is it? hehe 9it’sa cute, harmless show- much like McEntire’s other sitcom).

When discussing Friday ratings, everyone seems to champion Last Man Standing, but predicts doom for Malibu Country. ABC has to be thrilled with how both shows are doing, especially in comparison to last year’s ratings during the hour. And since it is the most watched new comedy – it could be worse. MC’s scripts have improved since its debut, and it seems to be doing just fine. I think ABC will renew both, and use them to build a two hour TGIF block next season, as an alternative to the heavy dramas and reality on the other networks. Hopefully, they add multicamera comedies that flow well with the rest of the night.

Love Malibu Country. Hope it continues next season. Seems to be doing pretty well for ABC.

WOW! congrats ABC. LMS & MC will be back next season, so will ST. As much as I think TGIF could be two hours next year they should make it Thursday Night comedy and compete with CBS and NBC that would be something intersting.

ABC should expand this block to two hours and then let Shark Tank move to earlier in the week to plug a hole – like maybe Tuesday at 8pm.

Maybe go with Shark Tank, DWTS, and then a drama at 10pm…

When I read the Nielsen data for Malibu Country, I was very much surprised. This site has sort of kicked Malibu Country around with low ratings and now, it is the most watched comedy. We love the show and have always felt it was viewing better than the ratings was saying. I see this with a lot of shows. The viewers are behind a certain show, the ratings not so much. I hope MC stays on. It is a different type of comedy, has lots of potential and I believe it has a lot of viewers and can more than hold its own if given the chance.
