THE CW ANNOUNCES EARLY PICKUPS FOR THREE SERIES FOR THE 2013-2014 SEASON

Arrow,” “The Vampire Diaries” and “Supernatural” to Return Next Season

February 11, 2013 (Burbank, California) ? The CW Network has given early pickups to three of its hit series for next season, including freshman hit Arrow, its top-rated drama THE Vampire Diaries and fan favorite Supernatural, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW.  All three shows will return in Fall 2013.

“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit Arrow and fan favorite Supernatural on Wednesday night, and the continued success of THE Vampire Diaries on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” said Pedowitz. “Not only do Arrow, Supernatural, and THE Vampire Diaries perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”

One of the true breakout hits of the season, ARROW posted The CW’s best series premiere since 2009 and currently stands as the network’s most watched show (4.3mil).  Heading into its fifth season next fall, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES remains The CW’s highest rated series in target demographics, including adults 18-34 and women 18-34.  THE VAMPIRE DIARIES also continues to be one of the network’s top performing shows digitally and socially; in fact, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES recently topped Trendrr’s list as network TV’s #1 social program for the week of January 21–27

The Winchester brothers of Supernatural will continue to fight the forces of evil for a ninth season.  Since being paired with ARROW on Wednesday this year, SUPERNATURAL has seen a dramatic uptick in its ratings from last season, rising 15% among total viewers, 10% in adults 18-34 and 18% in adults 18-49.

Super excited for Arrow season 2! Give me more villians, flashbacks and action. Love this show, it deserves to be renewed this early.

  • AaronExplicable

Guess I’ll finally go ahead and give Arrow a chance now, too bad about supernatural though.

  • Val

Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries have been renewed early a few times before, but never this early! Great for all three shows, they are the only ones that consistently preform well for CW standards.

  • alim

yes for all three, i havent really watched any of them this season but guna catch up with them soon. now they need to renew hart of dixie then am happy

  • American

    Don’t you mean 2013-14 season?

  • Arrow > Nikita

YES! EARLY RENEWAL! SUCK IT NIKITA FANS!

    ARROW ON TOP!

    NIKITA SUCKS!

  • halloween

just announce 90210 is ending now

  • RandyL

Great (but obvious) news. Now just renew Nikita and Hart of Dixie and let 90210, The Carrie Diaries and Beauty and the Beast battle it out. If Cult does well, just cancel 90210. Then between TCD and BATB, who knows.

  • Tessa

Excellent news. Is this the first time Supernatural got an early renewal? I’m glad they recognized their Wednesday combo worked. Hopefully they’ll keep it for the next season.

  • ddddddddddd

Please cancel 90210. Don’t even bother giving them a final season. Just a waste of money. They have until May to wrap up the current crappy storylines.

I predict Nikita and BATB to be renewed as well. Not sure about HOD though.

  • Win

I feel as if Hart of Dixie is gonna be renewed along with one other show before Upfronts. The others will be left to battle until then.

  • SJ

    No brainer.

Also, “THE CW ANNOUNCES EARLY PICKUPS FOR THREE SERIES FOR THE 2012-2013 SEASON”?! Oh, CW… :D

  • gerry

if they announce and end to 90210 now, there is still plenty of time for the writers to craft the perfect finale.

awesome for arrow and tvd. i don’t watch supernatural, but i will watch it in the ‘flix at some point so good for that too.

  • Mae

Yeah! Super excited for SPN and Arrow!

I was not expecting early renewals this early. CW must really be happy with how well SPN, Arrow and TVD are doing.

  • Carl

It was smart of CW to announce this at a time when ratings for the shows are pretty decent (I know TVD was a little lower than usual but that won’t last), before more competition or before warmer weather brings on some hurting.

It was only a month ago that the CW prez gave the impression they’d need a while to decide on Supernatural (even if that was a formality). I guess the 1.0 last week might have been all they needed.

Congratulations to all three shows and to their fans.

  • Rob3008

    Great, but predictable news.

The baiting and goading of Nikita fans is really quite pathetic. When did the quality of posters on here slip so far?

  • Sel

If they cancel Hart of Dixie there ain’t gonna be single show that I watch. They better not cut me off! :(

  • Skylar James

Flopkita not getting the early renewal then

  • alexjones

no surprises here? these renewals were pretty much a given, it’s the rest of teh CW’s shows whose fate is in question.

  • John A

You would think Nikita would be renewed too since its certain. Maybe not so certain after all.
