THE CW ANNOUNCES EARLY PICKUPS FOR THREE SERIES FOR THE 2013-2014 SEASON

Arrow,” “The Vampire Diaries” and “Supernatural” to Return Next Season

February 11, 2013 (Burbank, California) ? The CW Network has given early pickups to three of its hit series for next season, including freshman hit Arrow, its top-rated drama THE Vampire Diaries and fan favorite Supernatural, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW.  All three shows will return in Fall 2013.

“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit Arrow and fan favorite Supernatural on Wednesday night, and the continued success of THE Vampire Diaries on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” said Pedowitz. “Not only do Arrow, Supernatural, and THE Vampire Diaries perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”

One of the true breakout hits of the season, ARROW posted The CW’s best series premiere since 2009 and currently stands as the network’s most watched show (4.3mil).  Heading into its fifth season next fall, THE Vampire Diaries remains The CW’s highest rated series in target demographics, including adults 18-34 and women 18-34.  THE VAMPIRE DIARIES also continues to be one of the network’s top performing shows digitally and socially; in fact, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES recently topped Trendrr’s list as network TV’s #1 social program for the week of January 21–27

The Winchester brothers of SUPERNATURAL will continue to fight the forces of evil for a ninth season.  Since being paired with ARROW on Wednesday this year, SUPERNATURAL has seen a dramatic uptick in its ratings from last season, rising 15% among total viewers, 10% in adults 18-34 and 18% in adults 18-49.

    Good for Arrow!

  • DryedMangoez

    Yay Supernatural!

Well those were the easy decisions, now leaves the rest of the mess to battle. As long as they keep Hart of Dixie I’ll be happy. Knew Supernatural would keep going but it is getting to the point that is should probably retire, the 5 year plan is coming up on 10 years.

  • Tessa

How silly to attribute Supernatural’s rating uptick to its pairing with Arrow. It may have had some effect (as Supernatural had on Arrow) but it’s mostly because more people stay home and watch the show on a Wednesday than a Friday.

  • Charmed

I think 90210 should be given a final season, only so the original characters can come back. Since the original characters came back a few years ago they should be given a proper finale.

  • Moonshayde

    Woot! Go Supernatural.

  • capm

Don’t know why some are assuming Nikita would get an early renewal, its alnost syndication status just gives it a high chance of renewal, not early or certain.

yaaaaaaay supernatural again !! I’m glad they will Return to the Next Season ! we need this show to continue ” Supernatural ” are the best tv show from now on ! and all the fans they’re ready to vote if there’s any voting ! for this amazing tv show SPN , Thank you Cw !!

If Cult does well enough hopefully they’ll put it on after TVD next season. BATB if it does get renewed would likely be paired with Nikita on Fri. I feel confident that HOD along with Nikita will be back in the fall.

happy about arrow…i watch tvd also, but more out of habit than enjoyment…hope batb gets renewed, but i’m not optimistic.

  • Dave

    Yay for TVD :D

  • DenverDean

Please 24 episodes of each. CW needs to keep fresh episodes of its hits going longer. Also glad they started in-season and even a week late for some shows. Very smart not to waste episodes in early September – the early non-competition does not make up for bigger gaps during season.

I am very happy that TVD has been renewed. It is one of my favorite shows. I hope The CW picks up The Originals soon.

  • Bob

90210 – A final 24 episode season and then I will be happy at least with CW….

  • Rich

Yay,Arrow! Hopefully,John Barrowman will be upped to a regular since Torchwood is,basically, dead.

The only problem I have with this press release is that Arrow and TVD got individual recognition. Supernaturals recognition had to be attributed to being paired with Arrow. True or not they could have left that out. Either way congrats to all 3!

  • Skylar James

@Bob: lol don’t be ridiculous. If it gets half a season next year consider yourself lucky

  • Dave

Let the cage battle begin! I predict Nikita and Beauty walks out alive.

  • Freyja

Best news ever, congrats to all three shows!

    *does the happy dance*

  • Whatever

They need to cancel The Carrie Diaries. Ugh.
