THE CW ANNOUNCES EARLY PICKUPS FOR THREE SERIES FOR THE 2013-2014 SEASON

Arrow,” “The Vampire Diaries” and “Supernatural” to Return Next Season

February 11, 2013 (Burbank, California) ? The CW Network has given early pickups to three of its hit series for next season, including freshman hit Arrow, its top-rated drama THE Vampire Diaries and fan favorite Supernatural, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW.  All three shows will return in Fall 2013.

“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit Arrow and fan favorite Supernatural on Wednesday night, and the continued success of THE Vampire Diaries on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” said Pedowitz. “Not only do Arrow, Supernatural, and THE Vampire Diaries perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”

One of the true breakout hits of the season, Arrow posted The CW’s best series premiere since 2009 and currently stands as the network’s most watched show (4.3mil).  Heading into its fifth season next fall, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES remains The CW’s highest rated series in target demographics, including adults 18-34 and women 18-34.  THE VAMPIRE DIARIES also continues to be one of the network’s top performing shows digitally and socially; in fact, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES recently topped Trendrr’s list as network TV’s #1 social program for the week of January 21–27

The Winchester brothers of Supernatural will continue to fight the forces of evil for a ninth season.  Since being paired with ARROW on Wednesday this year, SUPERNATURAL has seen a dramatic uptick in its ratings from last season, rising 15% among total viewers, 10% in adults 18-34 and 18% in adults 18-49.

    Its 100% guaranteed Originals will air after Vampire Diaries.
    Its a slam dunk to be picked up, considering its from same producers.

    CW pilots seem high concept this year, finally understanding they need to broaden there demographic.

    Not surprised for this trio and they would succeed no matter what network they were on!

    Happy news! :)

    Guys, I’m pretty sure The CW is gonna renew 90210. One of the writers just tweeted that she just read the final act of the season finale…there’s no time to wrap anything up at this point. They’re filming the second to last episode as we speak. The CW wouldn’t leave it on a cliffhanger cause the tweet read something about how there was so much drama.

    Happy to see Arrow season 2, Vampire Diaries season 5, but Supernatural should have been dead years ago.

    I would like to see Nikita as a summer show.

    @Richard Steven Hack

    I know how you feel, me and the rest of the Revenge fans have to endure people calling it a flop when clearly the competition was the factor of it’s fall and I and the fans of Elementary not only have to endure flop comments week by week (even though it’s the 2nd highest 10pm drama on CBS) and especially on the Super Bowl night I found me and a few others had to protect Elementary from the bad comments on the 7.8 rating.

    This isn’t the first early renewal people! Several CBS and FOX shows have already been renewed!!

    I thought the first 7 episodes of SPN were worse then the episodes we are getting now. Should the show have been cancelled then.

    What about season three. I thought season three was a significant decline in quality over season 2, should it have been cancelled then?

    Do I think SPN is still telling as strong of stories as seasons 2 or 4 (my two personal favorites) nope I sure don’t. But I think its really close to 1 and 3. I still find most episodes to better then average tv. And as long as that occurs I am all for more. Considering the amount of writing talent the show no longer has, thats a miracle in my book.

    Congratulations to casts, crews & fandoms of Supernatural, Arrow, and The Vampire Diaries! Though the renewals are not unexpected, it’s always a relief to see it in print!

    Very surprised to see how many people never learned that if you don’t have anything nice to say, it’s best to say nothing at all…

    Richard Hack I certainly hope you won’t be shoving anything down anyone’s throat unless it’s your boyfriends’. So why are you whining about someone posting ratings comments? This site is about RATINGS. Should I say it slow so you understand? Nikita sucks, and the ratings prove it. I love it when people mention the fact over and over again. Just like you are happy to get another season of really bad television.

    @SnowLeopard-You rock!

  • Brian

    Supernatural..soo tired!

  • Sheila

    So happy that Supernatural, Vampire Diaries & Arrow were renewed!! They are 3 of my favorite shows on tv!! I really want Beauty & The Beast to be renewed! I love Catherine/Vincent & the story is really interesting! I also really love Hart Of Dixie & hope it’s renewed. So happy Zoe/Wade finally got together this season. The Carrie Diaries is also really good. I’ll be really sad if the CW cancels the show.

  • Lainey

    I hope they announce a 3rd season of HART OF DIXIE before the 2nd season ends- I just love that show and will be soooo disappointed if they cancel it. Plus, it might boost the ratings for the last part of the season.

    And in other news, the earth revolves around the sun.

    @googly

    What makes you think you sound any better than Richard or thesnowleopard? As far as I’m concerned you’re acting just as childish. Do yourself a favor and grow up.

  • LisaM

    Go, Jensen and Jared! We love ya!

  • Tabitha

    My 3 favorite shows on CW :) such great news
