THE CW ANNOUNCES EARLY PICKUPS FOR THREE SERIES FOR THE 2013-2014 SEASON

Arrow,” “The Vampire Diaries” and “Supernatural” to Return Next Season

February 11, 2013 (Burbank, California) ? The CW Network has given early pickups to three of its hit series for next season, including freshman hit Arrow, its top-rated drama THE Vampire Diaries and fan favorite Supernatural, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW.  All three shows will return in Fall 2013.

“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit Arrow and fan favorite Supernatural on Wednesday night, and the continued success of THE Vampire Diaries on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” said Pedowitz. “Not only do Arrow, Supernatural, and THE Vampire Diaries perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”

One of the true breakout hits of the season, ARROW posted The CW’s best series premiere since 2009 and currently stands as the network’s most watched show (4.3mil).  Heading into its fifth season next fall, THE Vampire Diaries remains The CW’s highest rated series in target demographics, including adults 18-34 and women 18-34.  THE VAMPIRE DIARIES also continues to be one of the network’s top performing shows digitally and socially; in fact, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES recently topped Trendrr’s list as network TV’s #1 social program for the week of January 21–27

The Winchester brothers of SUPERNATURAL will continue to fight the forces of evil for a ninth season.  Since being paired with ARROW on Wednesday this year, SUPERNATURAL has seen a dramatic uptick in its ratings from last season, rising 15% among total viewers, 10% in adults 18-34 and 18% in adults 18-49.

    Very happy for the cast, crew, and fans of Supernatural, Arrow and Vampire Diaries. It’s great that the CW rewarded them with a little peace of mind, although none of them were in question.

    Very sad to see the level of commenting on this has dipped from middle school level last year to preschool level this year. Are we going to get “yes it is, no it’s not” conversations next? How about “I’m rubber; you’re glue….” Seriously folks grow up and stop stooping to the level of other immature people.

  • Moe

    Yay, very happy for the cast and crew of Supernatural! They’ve been working very hard up there for 8 years, glad to see them being rightfully rewarded for that hard work with a much deserved early renewal!

    And congrats to TVD and Arrow as well!!!

    Nice to be able to breathe a little bit easier about your favorite shows coming back!

  • Richard Steven Hack

    googly: “Richard Hack I certainly hope you won’t be shoving anything down anyone’s throat unless it’s your boyfriends’.”

    That was adult… :-)

    ” So why are you whining about someone posting ratings comments? This site is about RATINGS.”

    Yes, it’s about ratings. Not pissing and moaning about the ratings of a show you don’t even watch, when the entire point is to insult those who do watch. When I dump on a show I don’t like, it’s because I WATCH it and there are reasons I don’t like it. I don’t dump on a show I don’t watch because I watch some other show, like these idiots who are 90210 or Scandal fans who have to dump on some show that has NOTHING whatever to do with their show.

    “Nikita sucks, and the ratings prove it.”

    Shall I say it even slower so your minimal IQ and attention span can catch it? WE KNOW THAT the ratings suck. However, the show itself does NOT suck.

    “I love it when people mention the fact over and over again. Just like you are happy to get another season of really bad television.”

    If anything qualifies as really bad television, 90210 probably does. If we’re going by the ratings to claim a show is bad quality, then clearly 90210 is worse than Nikita, just as Ringer was. I’ve never watched 90210 and never will. I watched Ringer until it was apparent it was utter crap. The ratings for Ringer eventually justified me.

    But ratings don’t necessarily have anything to do with quality – although they frequently do. Revolution is complete garbage but it’s doing well so far, Nikita is excellent and is doing very badly. Fringe got a fifth season and it was one of the worst pieces of garbage I’ve seen on TV in six years. So what?

    “@SnowLeopard-You rock!”

    SnowLeopard is a frustrated SPN fan dumping on a show that has nothing to do with his or her show. As is Brandy, a frustrated 90210 fan.

    Juveniles, the lot. You’re nothing but trolls.

    People need to stop dumping on shows that have NOTHING TO DO with the shows they like. When I dump on a show it’s because I watch it and don’t like it and I have reasons for that. I don’t dump on a show I don’t watch because I like some other show and for some stupid reason I’m threatened by the fans of another show.

    Only morons do that stuff. In fact, people who do that stuff give morons a bad name. If I had a village, I’d make you my idiots.

    A network makes early renewals for there top 3 rating shows, what surprise :) On a positive not I am a fan of all 3 shows so happy either way. I do think that this should be the last season of Supernatural thou, I feel its jumped the shark a little since the Season 5 finale. I love the show and want it to end on a high note

  • Mark3

    @jt your right ratings suck. Used to be great. I think it will get short final season:)i im talking bout the nerds that actually root for a show to get canned! What kind of loser wants shows to fail. If someone doesnt like it. Then dont watch it duh! I hate courtroom shows and csi type crap. But i dont want it canned cuz im sure its making others happy.

  • Felipe Nikita

    Do you really like Arrow? I watched from then first episode till now and its not good, but people must like it

  • Mark

    @Michael

    There is really no reason to be rude. That would just be my ideal schedule. You Nikita fans need to take a Xanax and chill out.

  • Red Jane

    I guess no surprises but still – well done arrow and TVD… and the very age-defying SPN….

  • Maya

    @Dan W

    I agree with Freya if you don’t like it anymore, stop watching and imagine that the end was in the fifth season and leave us alone, for me this is the best season since season five, and I’m gonna keep watching until the end (and sorry for you but I bet the end is gonna be in season 10)

  • Ekras

    Anyone have an idea of when they will renew Do No Harm?

  • chris23

    This is no surprise. These shows deserve this renewal. When May comes around i’m assuming 4 of the 6 bubble shows will get picked up for next year totaling 7 returning shows. I hope CW comes up with a decent schedule for next year and stop wasting leadin slots for weak, underperforming shows.

    Nikita, Beauty and the Beast, Hart of Dixie, CULT, Carrie, and 90210… I really think that 3-4 of these shows will return. I really hope CW doesn’t leave Fridays at 9 as a rerun slot, they could totally send one of the lower loyal audience shows ,send it to Fridays, and give another show a chance!

    Someone should give CW executives some advice on how to schedule their nightly programs smartly. Atleast CW was smart enough to take Supernatural off Friday Nights and pair them with Arrow! I really think the big success story of the CW this year is more Supernatural improving than Arrows new show ratings for the CW. Don’t get me wrong, Arrow has done a great job out of the gate for the CW and has held up well. BUT I don’t think anyone thought Supernatural would have done as great as it has. Even dvr numbers are great this year!!!

    And NO I’m not a Supernatural Fan! Although I don’t watch the show I root for the WB veteran as a fan of the WB network from the good network days!

  • RS

    Happy for SPN and Arrow, my favorite show and one I like. I’ve never watched VD, but I’m happy that it supports the CW and the CW supports the two previously mentioned shows. The only other show I watch on the CW is H of Dixie occasionally. But I won’t be bereft if Beauty and the Male Model is renewed over it. As last year with the SC or Niki – no one forces me to watch. I might give Cult a try. My only question for next year about SPN and Arrow was whether they would keep them together or split them up. It looked about a 50/50 chance – a proven night v. a chance to help two new shows.

  • ChadCronin

    This just made my year. Yay for Season 9 of Supernatural. Now it just needs 1 – 3 more renewals as I want 10 – 12 seasons! Why 12, Because Supernatural has 12 characters and they could put a letter on each spin of each seasons Blu-ray for the boxed set

  • Melanie

    @Ekras If your post isn’t meant to be ironic, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but Do No Harm was yanked from the schedule and cancelled already.

  • Melanie

    @ChadCr4onin I like the way you think! How about 11 seasons and a movie?

  • Ekras

    @Melanie

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…… oh wait…. no one actually watched it. Nevermind ;-) ((Yes it was meant to be funny))

  • Bern

    Yeah for TVD and Arrow. Now I need a Nikita renewal.

  • don juan

    Yeah arrow!

  • Melanie

    @Ekras Good — because I LOL’d when I read it! ;)

  • Alan

    Beauty and the Beast fans should be worried… I can see 90210 joining these three soon.
