The premiere episode of The Following added nearly 10 million viewers since its January 21 premiere via DVR viewing, encore showings, VOD and online streaming to arrive at a total of 20.34 million viewers. See the chart/list below for a breakdown of these viewership gains.

via press note:

Total Viewing of THE FOLLOWING Premiere Episode

1/21/13 premiere (Live + Same Day): 10.42 million viewers

1/21/13 premiere (L7 gain):  4.68 million viewers

1/25/13 encore (L7): 2.84 million viewers (Note: This factors out 25% duplication with first airing)

4-14 Day VOD: 1.02 million plays  (Note: The first 3 days of VOD are already included in Nielsen’s L7)

Streams (FOX.com and Hulu through 2/8/13): 1.38 million initiated streams

Total Audience: 20.34 million

    That’s a lot of eyeballs.

Weird that 25% of the Friday encore watched again. That seems extremely high. Clearly, FOX DVR promotion strategy worked. This leads me to believe that more that L+3C will factor into renewal options for FOX shows.

Did the press note actually include that graph? Fox couldn’t spring for a better looking diagram? Anyway, those numbers are pretty impressive.

My favorite part of this is that we get internet streaming numbers… Any idea whether “initiated streams” are for the whole episode or for each segment (i.e. with commercials each full episode ends up being 5 ‘streams’)

Since the chart is under the “via press note” header, I’m pretty certain FOX did make it.

I really like this show. I hope the live ratings stay up, so we get another season.

I don’t watch a lot of television, and don’t subscribe to cable television, but The Following has joined Scandal, Last Man Standing, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon at the top of my TiVo Season Pass list to prevent my missing of any episodes.

The only thing that I can think of which would add to my enjoyment of viewing The Following, would be a guest appearance by Kyra Sedgwick(-Bacon).

Iwith the illegal downloads and streaming there’s probably more than 30 million viewers LOL

I finally got to watch this show during snowstorm. had all 3 episodes on dvr. I like it. Kevin Bacon and the cast r top notch. The story and twist and turns are very good. I just don’t know how long they can keep it going beyond one or two seasons. Sort of like Prison Break. It was the greatest show for two seasons but the story couldn’t hold up beyond that.

Who cares? How many of those 10 million watched the commercials?
