An anecdote from last May's Fox upfront meeting was amusing, and is again topical. When asked what he would tell Kiefer Sutherland after his show (Touch) was being moved to Friday, Fox chief Kevin Reilly replied "Hey, you're still on the air". After last Friday's disastrous premiere ratings (1.1, 0.9 for the hours) for Touch, I wonder what he'll tell him now that the show is certain to be canceled?
Even though it's not in the calculations above, I did see the drop in The Following's ratings last night. It will have to drop a lot further before it's in any danger, but there must now be at least a little "Alcatraz Anxiety" at Fox.
Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.
From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old" Fall predictions in the table.
Notes:
-
- certain to be cancelled by May, 2013 -
- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013 -
- toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013 -
- more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013 -
- certain to be renewed by May, 2013
The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

“I expect Touch to get between a 0.9-1.2 over this season.”
That’s optimistic based on the premiere’s ratings.
Touch is boring. See ya.
Ironically, I only was able to watch a few eps of Touch last year because of being ill during the spring but I just got caught up on Touch by watching the entire first season on Netflix and I’m now watching the show. I hope it picks up in the next few weeks.
As for The Following, I think it is a great show but ep #3 didn’t have the same suspense than thew first two eps did. So, when I watch ep. 4 on my DVR, I hope it is better.
If Nikita manages to pull a .6 this season, I think Touch can too! Go Touch!
So sad about Touch. So, so sad. It’s getting much better this season too, being darker and more intense than S1, largely thanks to that Guillermo guy, who’s just straight out of The Da Vinci Code. As for The Following, I can sorta get why it’s suffering in the ratings now. Apparently I’m not the only one losing interest in that show. At least I didn’t give up after three episodes the way I did with 666 Park Ave, but any more of the adding-nothing-to-the-plot direction the show is currently taking, and I might just rage-quit.

I know everybody is interested in a 24 movie, but since 24 was a gimmick show (with the season adding up to a day), how will that translate to film? Of course they’ll call it something else (The Bauer Ultimatum, maybe?), but it won’t be the same at all, so why are people so interested? Or, rather, why do they THINK they’re interested when they must KNOW that they’re going to be disappointed by it?
Glee down to the same average as Bones! ^_^
The little show that could! <3
Rob
The Following is not doing that bad.
@TerryJacksonNYC
I’m honestly unsure how they could ever do a proper 24 movie using the Jack Bauer character the way he was meant to be used. Asides from the 24 Redemption movie all of his stories have been in the United States, working to stop terrorist threats. Now that he’s pretty much blown that in a spectacular way, it’s hard to see what they could even do with it.
I would rather just assume he lived out the rest of his life in some obscure country and was happy. Because of what he did, there’s no going back lol
@The End
They could pull a Rambo. Somehow he’s needed to catch some guy that absolutely nobody else can. lol
The problem is The Following can only do 15 episodes a year.
I expect it to fall below 2.0. Its quality is decreasing similar to Alcatraz.
Looking at Fox’s current lineup, pretty much every show there will be extremely questionable for renewal two years from now. The next two seasons will be critical.
What I think the 2013-2014 schedule should look like for them to benefit in the long term:

@TerryJackson
If they did a 24 movie with the same format as the tv show, they could just call it “120 Minutes.”
@Silas
“Glee down to the same average as Bones!”
I’m sorry, but that makes me
.
@Shepherd
Lol good one.
There were rumors of perhaps it being Jack in another country who is then drawn into a situation 24 style but it wouldn’t be the same. The Russians want him, the Chinese want him, the Americans want him, realistically he couldn’t wonder around most first world countries without drawing attention.
Not to mention the cost of shooting a 24 movie in another country, I seriously doubt Fox would want to invest 10s of millions into a 24 movie and would likely do it in the same way as 24 Redemption, a cheapish TV movie.
Personally my ideal 24 movie would be a movie set before the end of Season 8. It would be cheaper and would feel more 24 than something produced after.

Glee’s ratings aren’t bad enough for Friday so you people putting up fantasy schedule are just imagining things. Glee’s ratings are still good enough to keep in on a night that isn’t friday.
so there’s really no bubble show on fox.
Maybe they can revive 24 with Kiefer freed up now, and ditch the movie plan. It might be an interesting experiment, and would likely do better than whatever they can dream up as Kiefer’s next vehicle. Also, with a few years off the air, maybe it would be fresher creatively.
