Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Why are you all acting like The Following is dead. It’s dropped yes, but really? Dramatic much?

  • sally

Justin121 Ummmm BATB has higher ratings than TCD. If its between the two, then BATB will be given a S2 especially since it has a better online fanbase, which the CW loves and bringing in press for them like the PCA win.

  • Nick

90210 better hope it gets adjusted up again.

  • John A

No i didnt expect Emmy Style acting just not a cold actress which Maggie is. Any 90210 actress could perform that role. Summer Glau was decent on TSCC. She played Cameron fine but that one episode where she played the human and crying was painful and cringe worthy.

  • John A

Meant to say that Lyndsey is horrible and any 90210 actress could perform that role.

  • Petar Ivanov

    @John A

Who cares what both of you think? What you like and what you watch? NOBODY! Your opinions are equal in part that they are irrelevant. No one of you is part of Emmy, Golden globe or Oscar academy so shut up. And in MY opinion you are with BAD TASTE of shows, actors and without any credibility. I mean both of you. Not to mention that you are most of the time NOT on the topic and most of the time comment nikita. ANd guess what this show is on friday not on Monday with 1million viewers so we DON’T CARE! I am sick of stupid comments for cw shows nt on their days generally nikita. You guys deserve BAN! But that my opinion is irrelevant too. I am not part from tv by the numbers. Sorry for off topic too.

The Following – one lost hope for FOX.

  • Jon

@ Rob…..A person can nitpick on any movie and any particular show. When watching entertainment one has to have a certain suspension of belief. Look at what made a show such as The Walking Dead such a success. We know that in real life it can’t happen that way, but we watch because we are entertained. One has to do the same with the following, we know that certain parts of it aren’t going to be realistic, but that’s hollywood’s way of selling something to the public. I have a good friend of mine who is a cop, and he tells me that if any cop or procedural show ie: NCIS, blubloods, south land, Hawaii 5-0 etc was done the way it actually happens in real life, nobody would watch it. I watch tv to be entertained, I’m not so concerned with was that believable or not. The following is crazy scary, well acted and has shock value. I know it’s not for everyone as it is a pretty graphic show, but not to the point that it is gory just for the sake of being gory. There are stories to be told, and character development to be made. I thought we learned a lot last night about Bacon’s back story last night. Any good show will do this, and the following is doing just that.

Did everyone forget that 90210 is against more competition than it had last season? Last season it was at a 0.6/0.7 every week. I think it’s the Slot. What are the DVR numbers?

  • Baaa!

@The Old Man- “S02 WW1 thread reminded me of another Masterpiece Classic: Danger UXB which detailed a bomb difuser (Like Jeremy R in “The Hurt Locker”) for WWII in England. If you can get access to this one, I strongly recommend it!”

Just as old as you I guess, as i remember that show as well. Was a good show.

  • Skylar James

@Petar: if you dont know how to discuss something with other forum members like a normal person, without resorting to attacking them, then maybe you should be banned.

  • Richard Steven Hack

John A: “not a cold actress which Maggie is.”

Which is precisely what the character requires. She’s an action star, not a Shakespearean actor. Did you see the torture episode in season two? She was excellent in that one.

“Lyndsey is horrible and any 90210 actress could perform that role.”

So what? Again, that role doesn’t require a Shakespearean actor. She’s not horrible, but she’s not great. You’re overstating the case, as usual.

“that one episode where she played the human and crying was painful and cringe worthy.”

Unbelievable. Playing a robot you think she’s fine; playing a robot, a robot channeling a human AND playing a human – and you didn’t like it. She should have gotten an Emmy for that one episode. And on top of that while she’s playing a robot, you think MAGGIE is “cold”? That makes no sense whatever.

Petar Ivanov: “Who cares what both of you think? What you like and what you watch? NOBODY!”

So why are you posting here? Who the hell are YOU that anyone should care what you post?

“And in MY opinion you are with BAD TASTE of shows, actors and without any credibility.”

And your reasons are what? None, that’s what. Which means you have zero credibility.

“most of the time NOT on the topic”

I didn’t start this line of comment. Try to keep up.

“But that my opinion is irrelevant too.”

Indeed – more so than most due to poor English and bad punctuation. Makes you read like a moron. If you haven’t got anything better to say, I’d suggest lurking quietly.

Not suprised at the fall of “the Following” .. like “Criminal Minds” it makes me want to puke.

Too many serial killer shows with over-the-top violent scenes out there :(.

  • Jt

    Martha
I can’t stand shows like 90120 but i never say they should be off the air.

  • JacTv

Can you say good night and good bye to Carries Diaries.

Otherwise not a really good series night.

  • Avery Jensen

Wow this Petar guy is such a spaz. Whenever he can’t come up with reasonable points to argue about something, he just bashes the other person. You’re not better than anyone here, so come off your high horse…

  • Kristopher

The Following’s drop is concerning. Hoping it stabilizes around the 2.4 mark, otherwise it’ll be in great danger.

  • Richard Steven Hack

Jon: Agree with your point on suspension of disbelief. Most shows are very unrealistic. What usually bothers me is not so much a lack of realism, although that does bug me sometimes, but plot holes and just plain bad writing and directing. Such as when characters do things that just don’t make any sense, or things happen “conveniently” for the plot.

The classic case of really poor TV was the scene in one of the “Six Million Dollar Man” shows back in the day when the lead got explosively blown out of a jeep in the desert – and two canteens full of water just conveniently land right next to him. It was so bad it was hilarious! :-)

The Following is a bit scattered but it’s not totally implausible. The premise is also not totally implausible. Highly unlikely, perhaps, but it’s based on the fact that serial killers do have devotees that write and visit them. They’ve just extended that fact to make a premise they can work with.

My only complaint about the show so far is that Carroll’s “plan” isn’t moving along fast enough. They’re spending too much time on the internal dynamic of the trio who kidnapped the kid.

In other words, the usual issue that the producers and writers are taking their time developing the overall story arc – which I view as always a mistake these days when a show’s future is determined within the first six episodes. A show has to hit the ground running these days and keep up the pace or it’s doomed.

However, it’s only episode four, so we need to cut them some slack and see if things pick up.

  • Brandy

@Sally, PCAs don’t mean anything. After the win, BatB dropped in ratings.BataB is not safer as its got the got the best leadin, a PCA win, lots of promotion and isn’t that great in ratings and can’t hold VDs audience. It lost half it’s audience from premiere to episode three. Its looking like last years SC.It still has time to fall in ratings this spring like most shows do.Whereas HoD is getting same 0.6 with no leadin, no promotion.CD is getting same 0.6 with no leadin.

  • Petar Ivanov

    @Martha

But CM survive a lot more seasons.

In the end deception can survive after all these nbc flops. If stay around 1.3-1.5 nbc may renew it. Which will be like surprise of the season.
