Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    @Michael

    Valentines Day has little impact on ratings. It’s no excuse for TVD’s 1.0.
    You could say that heavy competition from TBBT and American Idol impacted on the shows ratings, that would have been a much more plausible excuse.

  • Lukes

    s. Valentina alone is perhaps not the cause (or not the only one) of these numbers, but it’s a fact that every show of the evening fell and in some cases fell pretty badly (with the exception of Scandal which went even).

    If not S.V., there must have been something.

  • Petar Ivanov

    @actually I’ve noticed a lot much more GA/Scandal rivalry today.
    hardly any GA/POI talk.

    I doubt that she/he even read pages before writting.

    @Richard Steven Hack
    For once to be on one opinion.

  • JacobYates

    Poor NBC. They can’t catch a break comedy wise.

  • Charmed

    Does anyone have the half hours for BATB?

  • Petar Ivanov

    @Clarke who saod:
    Glee is doing terribly. The show would be at a 1.5 or lower without AI helping it.

    Still need one more season for syndication. But without idol glee is dead.

    I guess glee or the following will take sunday fox slot next season. May be both.

  • Petar Ivanov

    @Charmed
    Nope. No halfs today. sorry.

  • SCANDALous

    Apparently, in two weeks on 2/28, SCANDAL will air a special episode at 9 PM. Maybe a test to move it next season?

  • Richard Steven Hack

    Jade: “I’m not even a huge fan of the show and even im getting tired of it.”

    Uhm, I’m not sure you just said what you thought you said… :-)

    As for the story line, I have to admit that it’s not as interesting as previous seasons, although the character of Silas might be cool IF it ever happens. I’m not sure it will, however. With the cure’s purpose being precisely putting him down, my guess is none of the other characters get the cure, and he gets put down. With The Originals pilot being episode twenty, we don’t see Silas being a major story line, so my guess is that’s how it goes: we never even really SEE this character in action.

    So everything goes back to the status quo before Shane and Silas were introduced. There might be some back and forth over Bonnie and her “expression” power, and that’s it. End of story line.

    Which makes all the lead-in not only slow but irrelevant. An unsatisfying conclusion.

    I hope I’m wrong, but I may not be.

  • Skylar James

    @Ashton: since when is Castle the leading drama on ABC?

  • carla

    How many weeks in a row is it that POI has beaten Grey’s? POI just goes from strength to strength. This is intelligent, exciting, engaging TV for sure.

  • chris23

    Greys will probably adjust up to a 2.8 and Scandal will adjust down to a 2.7.. If not good for Scandal..

    Why not mention in the posting title of the Thursday Ratings that Scandal ties highs and for first time grows out of Greys.. That is after all the biggest news of last nights ratings.. We all knew all the shows were going to “slide”.. These slides are expected when new shows air on Halloween, Thanksgiving eve, Valentines Day, non holidays when awards shows are on or special sportscast events…

    Beauty and the Beast is all over the place this winter. Although I have a feeling it will go back up to a 0.6. Vampire Diaries will go back up next week. I root for Arrow, Supernatural and VD to get decent ratings even though I don’t watch all of them. So why do a lot of people brag that Arrow beat or Supernatural tied when VD aired on a stronger night that is a holiday known for dragging ratings down from all shows? I for one am glad all 3 shows broke 1.0 this week!

    American Idol will be hitting 2′s.. I bet fox is regretting dishing out the $18 Mil for Mariah and $10 Mil for Nikki Minaj. Not the Powerhouse this used to be. Sure it could be worse but still with all the money they put into reinventing this show with these 2 divas not to mention what they must pay ryan and randy..

    BBT held up nicely despite dropping, Point Of Interest still doing good. 2 Men didn’t suffer that much considering BBT lost a good amount of demo. Elementary is blah but could be a lot worse too.

    Overall, most shows are down due to the holiday of love, I guess we’ll see if a lot of these shows rebound back to normal.

  • Michael

    TVD will bounce back next week.

  • boonies

    POI ROCKS!! For those newbies considering getting started on it, PLEASE rent or buy Season 1 and start there. Every episode is great, but it really has a lot of ongoing background arcs and can be frustrating if you don’t know the history. Of course, everyone can jump in also, but I think it might be a little frustrating to jump into it in the middle. Once you’re hooked, though, you’re hooked for good!

  • Petar Ivanov

    @Apparently, in two weeks on 2/28, SCANDAL will air a special episode at 9 PM. Maybe a test to move it next season?

    As i said abc are smarter than CBS. They will use oscars to boost their young and hot drama and will air it when POI and all cbs line up is off to see how will perform. Only watch how heavy they will advertise scandal. Like they do this from the begining. If cbs spend on POI half of the money and resources that abc spend on scandal POI will be on NCIS levels yet. Still next season will be.

  • hanp

    I still think VD has a lot to do with big drop this week. I expect a spike in DVR usage.

  • chris23

    @Ashton. Not to be mean but you need to see an optometrist if you think Scandal is “NOW” the #2 ABC Drama following #1 Castle.. How is Castle #1? I have no disrespect for any show but saying Castle is 1st, well thats like saying 90210 won 9 PM timeslot on Monday Night against strong competition. See how stupid that sounded?

    With that said I know Castle will be back as well as Scandal but Castle isn’t even the #2 or #3 drama for the network. It is barely beating Nashville.

  • Petar Ivanov

    @boonies
    Buy DVDs. WB are greedy and they will not give POI until not sale it for syndication. Hope will sale it until May and than they can put it even on netflix or somewhere else.

  • kennya

    i have a feeling that abc will make a stupid move and put sxandal somewhere else. like putting it at 9pm or something. i really hope it stays there. the revenge move to sunday wasn’t a very good idea…

  • John A

    Lol Revenge fans are so annoyed Scandal didnt drop. It even beat its lead in at 10pm thats impressive. Im not a fan of Scandal its doing really well.
