Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

All this tells me, is there are far too many people sitting on their behinds when they could be out or in with friends and family enjoying that thing called life. Life? You remember Life? That thing your parents and your creator gave you? If your lucky, you might live to be 80 years old healthy? Maybe? Do you really want to spend it watching TV and watching other people who you don’t even know having fun? Pathetic really.

  • John

Supernatural had better ratings last night than the TVD.

  • JD Straw

Hopefully, this means that (hopefully) these sorry shows will be canceled permanently!

  • CrystalFissure

To all the people saying Whitney does better than Community, ask yourself this:

Does Whitney compete with the Big Bang Theory? It does compete with The Middle and Survivor, but still.

  • Tom

@ BK Thanks for the unsolicited sermon. Ending your polemic by referring to everyone as pathetic is a nice touch. However, since this a site frequented by hard core television fans, I doubt if many readers will appreciate your condescending tone. So, in light of your message’s religious overtones, you may want to consider finding another wilderness in which to cry out.

I actually don’t get the Scandal/Revenge battle. I’m pretty sure they will both be renewed. I haven’t personally seen Scandal, but it has to be a good show to get those ratings, and even though Revenge has fallen some this season, it’s still pretty well received, and five million viewers is a good standing. Neither is in real danger of cancellation.

  • Rich

What about the movies that opened on Valentines Day(which, yes, was a Thursday but the studioswanted to get an early jump on President’s Day weekend? Those might be a big factor,as well.

  • Rick

Glad to see many shows tanking! Either they’re bad singing shows, pathetic reality shows or one those that feel they HAVE to put gays in the mix. Good riddance.

  • Peach

For starters have they have Nickie Minaj and this is NOT helping. What Nickie Minaj did at the Grammys last year was Sacrilegious. She mocked Catholics, Pope and our rituals, But a typical hollywood liberal trash calling it art, however you and I both know she/they would never have the courage to Mock let’s say…ISLAM. Not that this would be right, but just the hypocrisy of it all and total disrespect from hollywood toward Conservative America and Christians. They will loose a lot more viewers Period. People are finding better things to do!

  • Sk8Shan

Well then maybe we can get something worth watching!!!!!!!!!! I would be completely THRILLED if they did away with the trash like the kardashians, American idol, the voice, and EVERY other “reality” trash on tv today!!!! I quit watching tv all together because it is nothing but brainless TRASH!!!!!!

  • michaelp

I am sooooo tired of homo t.v. and there commercials.I can care less about what they do. But shoving there lifestyles down our throat ? Having sex in feces is disgusting !

  • Sam

Although I have been a fan since the beginning and have continued to watch both Glee and Grey’s Anatomy, I hope both shows air series finales within the next year or two. The spark is just not there for either show anymore and the ratings continue to decline. I rather see these shows bow out with decent ratings instead of getting the boot with poor ratings.

However, I have high hopes for Scandal and the Following, but think Revenge might be losing its touch unless the writers get it together for the remainder of the season.
