Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    CBS must be so disappointed in Elementary as the post Super Bowl choice. One more season and it is canceled for sure.

  • Mike K

    they turned it into a bongo party

  • JONNYSBRO

    Damn Damn go Scandel. Is this the first show ever that has beaten Grey’s in the demos after it. It had best retention ever for Greys show. It seems Scandel still is HOT HOT HOT. IMO bill Greys tenth season as the final and put it on 8pm next year and move Scandel to 9pm. Its time why not wrap up Grey’s in a great final tenth season.

    FOX should really consider next season moving Idol back to Tuesday-Wednesday to stay away from BBT. Its clear it shares same audience as BBT. Plus still good numbers for a 12 year old show. I wonder how the Voice is going to do in its return in March. NBC has really rested the Voice. The girls last night on Idol were killer. Angela Miller OMG she is a star, love Candice, love Janelle and love Krie Harrison.

    @LEONARD

    I LOVE YOUR TOBBOGAN. THE BEST THING ABOUT IS THAT ONCE YOU JUMP IN YOU CAN’T CLIMB BACK AND REVENFLOP IS JUST HITTING THE BOTTOM.

  • JONNYSBRO

    Also when Idol aired against NCIS on Tuesdays it did well because they dont share the same audience and demos. I actually preferred Idol with the Tuesday-Wednesday format.

    I told all of you that AI would lose to 2.5 Men , an now that it has finally begun, it will continue to lose to 2.5 Men the rest of the reason. Burn burn burn AI.

    And shouts out to Max.

    Everybody thought dude was a troll but look at Scandals numbers and now go cry over Revenge.

  • Dude

    Community’s ratings have little to do with Valentine’s Day but I’d say shows like Glee, The Vampire Diaries, Beauty and the Beast…might a little more only because their primary demographics are women and even single girls who didn’t have a date last night typically would prefer spending the night out seeing a movie with friends or something than spending Valentine’s Day alone (or at least the ones I know). I don’t think that’s the whole reason but it definitely contributes.

    Zero Hour ?????? …… Let’s see if people keep tuning in

  • David Howell

    Wow, never thought I’d see Scandal build on its Grey’s lead-in. Does ABC promote it to 9pm and try Grey’s at 8? I would say that it’s tempting, but there’s too much overlap with Idol. I’m sure millions have flicked from Fox to NBC at 8:59 every Thursday in spring for some time.

    Amazing crash for Community, anything to do with the fact it was a Halloween special on V-Day? But with a syndication deal already in place and the carnage around it, I think Community could get renewed with a 1.1!

    Zero Hour will be literal by episode four. Can’t wait for that 0.9 rating for the jokes… And I’m sure TVBTN will take advantage in the headline!

  • Ram510

    Seem like the younger skewing shows took the biggest hit like Community and Glee. Hopefully Community bounces back

    And why would ABC yet again premiere another series on valentines day? It doesn’t work

  • ToXiX

    @gg

    You mean when it goes up to a 1.7?

  • Dude

    @Jonnysbro
    Keep in mind that Grey’s is an aging series reaching the end of its run while Scandal is just getting started. It’s not as hard to beat Grey’s as it was five years ago. The departures of Lexie and Mark as well as the general awfulness of this season have definitely impacted the ratings.

  • Keith

    Not surprised that POI only dropped .1. I always assumed its audience consisted of a bunch of single men with no lovelife.

    BBT vs. Idol within its half hour :

    TBBT 17.62 million 5.4/17 demo

    Idol 11.36 million 3.3/11 demo

    TBBT is just crushing Idol. FOX really needs to consider getting Idol away from TBBT next season.

  • Wright

    Does anyone know the half hour ratings for TVD? i really hope it adjusts up. The episode was really good.

  • CLay

    I don’t understand why people hate on Scandal and Revenge. @_@
    They’re both delicious shows in their own right
    And I hope they all get renewed.

    People aren’t watching TV the way they used to, so it’s harder to tell which shows are really flopping.

    If anything, I would say that Revenge is less likely to be renewed, not on these numbers, but for the fact that Emily Van Camp is now the lead in the new Captain America Film, which will likely contract her for other things. Since Disney owns Marvel and ABC and Marvel Movies are racking in so much dough, they’d probably focus more on her film contract than TV contract.

    Or maybe that has nothing to do with it and I’m talking out my ass. Regardless. Scandal is awesome in its own way and Revenge is too. Revenge did some ridiculous things this season, doesn’t mean it wont figure it out though.

    I have no idea why Glee is still in production. You would think with all the fees and licensing for the music they need, and with these dismal numbers that the show would be ending soon.

    Maybe I can add some clarification to Petar’s complaint about this website. Around 11:20 AM eastern time (in the United States) I used Google Chrome web browser to see if Spoiler Tv had the ratings for Thursday’s shows. They did and included a table with the surprising information that Scandal’s 2.8 did better than Grey Anatomy’s 2.7. I wanted to confirm this information so I went to this website but I got an error message “Error establishing a database connection”. For some reason I was able to access Spoiler TV’s web pages this morning but couldn’t access TvByTheNumbers web pages for a short time this morning.

  • Blake

    Maybe next season ABC will flip Grey’s and Scandal.

    That’s an all-time series low for American Idol. It’s down about 2 rating points from this time last year. And it’s only February.

    When the dust settles in May, it seems we’ll see the biggest season-to-season drop for Idol.

  • J

    These ratings are garbage.
