Soapnet is doing a 50 hour marathon of GH the weekend before the 50th anniversary which is April 1st. They of course can do this because they are owned by ABC which owns GH.

As for Y&R if they have to make purchases of the older episodes or pay rights to show those, then they probably won’t do anything with it.

I know Soapnet is still going to be phased out eventually once existing contracts are up. I am disappointed I don’t receive it as I would love to view this 50 hour GH Marathon they will be doing.

@mike and David I am fortunate to still have Soapnet but I’m thinking my DVR won’t even handle 50 hours. Too bad same can’t be done with Y&R. I kept a few oldies but would sure like to see some if those Jaime Lyn Bauer early-Lorie Brooks Prentiss episodes again. A few years back I think CBS.com had the first two episodes of the show available for viewing. Hey, 40 years is a pretty major deal.

  • Jason

jonboyelk, I saw the very first episode of Y&R a couple of years ago. I think it must have been on YouTube. Maybe someone had gotten it from CBS.com. I don’t know if it is still available. Anyway, it was pretty boring. If you saw it too, you’ll remember it was mostly scenes of a guy hitching a ride from a trucker to Genoa City.
As far as Denise Alexander (Lesley Webber), I think she is a little older than Leslie Charleson but I’m sure they could bring her back, especially with Laura in town. I hated when they brought Rick Webber back and then killed him off with almost no reaction from Lesley or Monica. It’s almost as bad as when they brought Lesley back from the dead but never showed a real reunion with Laura. Gloria Monty wouldn’t have done that!

I’ll be rockin’ as much of the SOAPnet 50 hour marathon as possible. My DVR will NOT hold that many hours of programming. I’m having a GH 50th Anniversary Party April 6th and hope to share some highlights with my family & friends. I’ve encouraged them to come as their favorite characters and so far, everyone is into it! Can’t wait!

  • bizzarr

I cant wait to see the ratins this weeks GH HAS BEEN THIS WEEK

  • bizzarr

Jason thats the word that steve is out

AMC and OLTL should debut pretty well on the internet, most soap fans except for their elderly fans have already adapted to catching up on the soaps on the internet. Y&R and DAYS does about 3-4 million extra viewers a day online if OLTL can get under half of that it’d be considered a success but in the long-run they need to be on television too so this web experiment will probably be predicated on how they perform online.

As far as the GH marathon goes thanks for the heads up I am going to have my new DVR setup in a couple of weeks so I should be able to tape most of the episodes. I’m only going to tape the really old ones from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Hopefully if John Stamos returns as Blackie for the 50th anniversary episode they play a few of his so people can see how awesome he was in that role.

  • Mike

Wow the ratings for the 2nd week of Feb sweeps are out. Every soap down in almost every category. I think B&B was the only one to stay the same in a category.

What a bad week for soaps and during sweeps too.

  • Mike

As to Y&R’s first episode being boring. I found it hardly that. Even when I have watched it in recent years. You have to love character psychosexual drama but I loved the early days of Y&R.

  • bizzarr

its hard twi get into a new show like y&r im a abc guy

  • jonboyelk

@golden let’s hope they show some realllllly old ones. Soapnets idea of classic is 5 years ago.

  • Mike

I just wonder how much of old GH exists beyond say mid-1970s. I would love to see some of the older shows with Steve and Audrey and Jesse. And esp. some of the late 70s with Scotty and Laura and the Lesley being on trial for murder.

  • jonboyelk

@mike absolutely! The David Hamilton murder trial. That’s around the time they traded handsone Rick Webber for ugly Rick Webber.
