“With all the oversight we have now the market crashed”

Really, is that what people believe? Derivatives are very complex instruments that had limited oversight due to deregulations. That was just one thing that was deregulated over the many years of deregulations of the financial industry from our illustrious leaders.

    —————————–

CBOE, SEC, NFA, & CFTC all regulate some form of derivatives. Now some will argue OTC’s need more oversight/regulation. Do we need a new agency just for that? Can’t one of those already in existence do the job? If those in place now aren’t working why/how would a centralized agency fix them?

Now i really have to get going. God willing & the creek don’t rise I’ll be back Monday. If you have more to discuss I’ll answer you then.

    C’ya

  • Faith3

Republicans are trying to block certain derivatives trades from public oversight now. The public cannot wait around while congress plays these games. We need comprehensive protection. Now with the new court ruling it will be political games as usual and everyone’s livelyhood continues to be on the line. Pathetic

  • Faith3

The Republicans don’t like the agency because it is a threat to “their” special interest.

Wow, for weeks the media has been trying to scare people…the world is going to end if sequestration goes through…Obama has said we’re going to lose cops and firemen and TSA….and now starting today we get all these news people changing their minds….not because they changed their minds….but because they knew when they were pushing Obama’s BS that it wasn’t that big a deal…and they want to protect their a$$ when things dont go bad….unless Obama breaks the rules and makes it go bad…the dems have been increasing spending by a minimum of 5% across the board every year since 2007…so cutting spending 2.4% isn’t a cut, it’s just less of an increase this year.

The right wing GOP is setting itself to lose big in 2014 (and 2016) by doing evrything they can to avoid standing for issues the American people support. Rush Slimebaugh will continue to attract suckers but while they will make slimebaugh lots of money, the vast majority of American people abhor what Slimebaugh stands for and will vote dem in the next election. Even Rove says the right wingers can’t win again unless they deep six the t-party and he doesn’t want to waste any more of his donors’ money….

  • Cathy

Stan T. I was surprised to see today, that ABC talked straight about sequestration, well somewhat straight. They said it wasn’t that big of cuts and the cuts were over seven years and they didn’t understand why the GOP was making a big deal about it. Then they showed three different GOP members talking about how bad sequestration would be.

I was shocked ABC acted like Obama wasn’t the one who started the “sky is falling” talk about sequestration.

Strange things are happening on messnbc.

Morning Joe had the Oregon Governor on and he derided the useless president on the fear mongering about the sequester that is going to happen. Medicaid and Medicare is killing the states and won’t last long.

Tingles said that the pres is doing a great job of fear mongering but soon it will cause the American people to turn against him.

The bottom line from this AM on the joe show, sequester no big deal and the president in the long run will lose.

    EPA’s fuel folly

What has been termed the Environmental Protection Agency’s “Phantom Fuel Requirement” is an aptly named rule that epitomizes the mind-set of an agency that has put itself above the law. Hiding behind complexity and its self-assigned moral authority, EPA increasingly subjugates the views of the public, Congress and the courts to its own policy determinations.

In 2005 and 2007, Congress twice amended the Clean Air Act to establish a renewable fuel standard. Under the RFS, Congress required that our fuel supply contain increasing amounts of renewable fuels.

The Phantom Fuel Requirement relates specifically to a mandate within the RFS to use cellulosic biofuels. Under the mandate, refiners, blenders and importers must purchase the prescribed amount of cellulosic biofuels or pay a fine.

The RFS established ambitious goals for cellulosic biofuels but charged EPA with reducing the requirement if production was in fact lower than the mandate.

The RFS greatly overestimated the industry’s ability to produce cellulosic biofuels. As a result, EPA has had to reduce the required level every year since the mandate took effect.

In the same response, EPA wrote, “Congress did not specify what degree of certainty should be reflected in the projections.” This latter response is reminiscent of a petulant child who, asked to clean his room, responds, “You didn’t say when I had to do it.”

    ******

On Jan. 25, 2013, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed that EPA had overreached. The court held that the cellulosic biofuels legislation calls for “a prediction of what will actually happen.” The court further chastised the agency: “The EPA points to no instance in which the term ‘projected’ is used to allow the projector to let its aspiration for a self-fulfilling prophecy divert it from a neutral methodology.”

EPA, however, appears to have no more regard for the courts than it does for Congress. The agency responded to the court’s concerns by nearly doubling its 2013 mandate from 8.5 million gallons to 14 million gallons. EPA outright snubbed the court for its clear rebuke. Paying lip service to the ruling, the agency’s regulatory announcement stated the amount was “a reasonable representation of expected production.” One wonders: What “degree of certainty” does the agency have?

    Good Morning, Everyone.

Ratboy, April is coming. April is coming.

You have to love the liberals and Obama. While Obama is pushing new gun laws, prosecution of people violating current gun laws is down 45% since Obama took office. The Obama administration says the reason for the down turn is a back log in the courts. Drug crimes are a higher propriety. They need more money to prosecution the gun crimes. Right now they drop the gun crime case or slap the violators wrist.

Keep up the support liberals, your lovely Obama and democrats are acting like they are doing something by trying to pass new laws. While they know the laws will not be enforced by prosecuting the offenders.

Long-time escort confirms Senator Bob Menendez paid her for sex
    10:05 PM 02/24/2013

A professional escort who travels the East Coast seeing clients in cities from Miami to Boston has identified a photo of Senator Bob Menendez as a man who paid her for sex. The woman, in her late 30s, told The Daily Caller prior to seeing Menendez’s photo that she had been paid to provide sexual favors to several U.S. senators, including a New Jersey Democrat and other politicians who are no longer living.

The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) defining marriage as one man and one woman for the purposes of federal law passed Congress with an overwhelming bipartisan majority and was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1996. It is the subject of a court challenge that the Supreme Court will hear on March 27. Last Friday, the Obama Justice Department filed a brief with the high court stating the Administration’s position that DOMA is unconstitutional.

Normally, it is the Justice Department’s job to enforce the nation’s laws. But as Heritage’s Hans von Spakovsky has noted, Obama’s Administration is different:

But now we have a Justice Department so politicized that it is actually arguing against federal statutes in court, and doing so not based upon the dictates of the law…but based on the apparent policy preferences and political ideology of this administration. So much for taking care that the laws be faithfully executed.

    Good morning
Yes Cathy April is coming, but ratboy still as to get through march :(. Yes the gun issue is getting some what crazy the VP telling buy a shotgun if a buglar comes just shoot into the air to scare them off. Of course its against the law in most states to discharge a firearm into the air.

@Ibsles dont you know if Obama doesnt like the law 1.Changes it with exective order 2. Ingore or don’t enforce the law. I dont know why no one has challenge exective order in court it’s getting out of hand now. Right now it looks like no limits on what exevtive orders can do.
