After Guys With Kids completes its run on February 27, repeats of Whitney will air Wednesday at 8:30PM beginning Wednesday March 6 (note conflicting info below) until Whitney completes its second season in April.

Edit/Correction: GWK's finale corrected to be February 27. Whitney repeat start date reported in some cases to be March 6, although there is conflicting schedule information that a GWK repeat will air on March 6. A Whitney repeat is scheduled for 8:30pm March 13.

    Oops wrong thread. Oh well

Why doesn’t NBC just air the ‘Off Air’ bars during prime time? It at least make people stop for a moment to see what it is.

I think Oliver is correct regarding Save Me airing after The Voice (with back to back episodes). Go On and The New Normal are almost certain to be done before May and something will have to air there. Why not give Save Me the best slot possible? Maybe it’ll live up to its title. I would expect an announcement soon, around the same time they schedule the finale for Go On and TNN.

In terms of renewals, I would rank the comedies in this order: Parks and Recreation, Go On, Community, Whitney, The New Normal, Guys with Kids, 1600 Penn, Up All Night. Up All Night had a better chance until the recent shakeup occurred. I think it’s toast now though. At best, they’ll launch a new show using the same set.

Back on topic, I think this further backs NBC’s support for Whitney. Although it’s a question for renewal, they could have just let Guys with Kids repeat, or put Off Their Rockers there. This indicates that they are more confident in Whitney repeats, in this case. From what I remember, Whitney has repeated well compared to its new episode ratings.

Maybe NBC can follow the example of Norway (as written about in an previous Recent Post last week) and show scenes of a fireplace with music or a fireworks display, or waterfalls. They tried having Jay Leno with a 10 PM show, they tried airing Rock Center with Brian Williams on Thurs. at 10 PM.

NBC falling from 1st to 5th place in a few months almost caused a sonic boom, when they dropped like a rock.

I guess NBC’s worst enemy is NBC’s executives.
They don’t know how to attract viewers with scheduling.

@DenverDean – You don’t know if any of these three things is actually an “error.” Starting Grimm early, immediately after the Olympics, earned the show its first 2.0 rating since the series premiere. It has already hit that mark twice this season, which it never managed to do in season one. So I really don’t think starting it early was anything but a good idea.

We don’t know how Grimm, The Voice, or Revolution will do when they come back from hiatus, or how the latter two will do airing in June. So how can you know these are “errors?”

  • David Howell

I think this might be to get more data points on reruns, because the case for Whitney renewal begins and arguably ends with its syndication potential.

Plus, yeah, not much else they have

  • Dan W

Really don’t understand why they aren’t airing repeats of Go On or The New Normal as Whitney is currently doing better (slightly) than both of them. Dumb scheduling move by NBC…AGAIN!

  • HV

“Save Me” should air instead of “Whitney” repeats! It could get through its 13 episodes by the end of May.

  • Jennifer

I personally think GWK is funnier than Whitney. It keeps me laughing throughout the whole show. I was so hoping that it would not get cancelled despite its low ratings. I loved Whitney the first season and still never miss an episode, but it was way funnier last season.

The item is incorrect, Guys With Kids ends next week on 2/27 and the Whitney repeats start on 3/6.

“The item is incorrect, Guys With Kids ends next week on 2/27 and the Whitney repeats start on 3/6.”

    Thanks, fixed.

why do people still wait for save me, didn’t nbc cancel it in the fall because they found it going in the wrong direction and disliked it?

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

“why do people still wait for save me, didn’t nbc cancel it in the fall because they found it going in the wrong direction and disliked it?”

NBC canceled ‘Next Caller’ last Fall before it ever aired. AFAIK there has been no definitive news on the status of ‘Save Me’.

  • Golden Guy

This is a clear sign that NBC is renewing Whitney for a third season, they’re not going to give Whitney a full hour on the schedule every week for two months if they’re going to cancel it. It’s a smart decision on NBC’s part because Comcast will get their wish of getting a multi-cam in syndication by 2016.

My question right now is if NBC still expects Up All Night to air this season? If no they really should’ve ordered more episodes of Guys with Kids.

Yeah this is pretty much a hint that they have confidence in Whitney despite the slight decline in ratings this season. I think Whitney showed a lot of its value when the show typically repeats very well, sometimes Whitney can repeat better than an original episode of one of their lower rated comedies. I think another key point is that Universal and Comcast clearly wants the show to hit syndication by 2016.

“I personally think GWK is funnier than Whitney. It keeps me laughing throughout the whole show. I was so hoping that it would not get cancelled despite its low ratings. I loved Whitney the first season and still never miss an episode, but it was way funnier last season.”

A lot of people like GWK and its odd because I hear more people talking about GWK than its competitor The Neighbors and I don’t really think the ratings totally show the whole story on the show. It’s just in a really bad timeslot, it needs to be put in a more comfortable timeslot if they bring it back next season.

  • Oliver

    Save Me is filming now.

    @Golden Guy

They need to air something in that slot and they can air Whitney repeats with little promotion.

I find the lack of a proper Spring schedule from NBC a bit odd.

  • omabin

At this point, moving things around may be their best bet honestly, their spring schedule has more holes than anything. I have been pretty much against the idea of Grimm on a weekday, but I think it got to a point when NBC simply needs it too much to give it the luxury of airing on Fridays. Even its friday ratings would be an improvement for what NBC currently plans. So I would go with this for spring:

    Monday
    The Voice
    The Voice
    Revolution

    Tuesday
    The Voice
    Grimm
    Hannibal

    Wednesday
The Voice Recap [they will be mocked in the entire industry for doing this, but it is their best shot, it will likely be able to pull a 1.5, and might even boost the rest of the night. Plus, no cost]
    Law and Order: SVU
    Chicago Fire

    Thursday
    Community
    Parks and Recreation
    The Office
Go On [the final episodes of the office should be well rated enough to give it a nice boost]
Smash [it is just a lost cause]

    Friday
    Dateline
    Dateline
    Rock Center

Burn The New Normal on tuesdays for an entire hour until the return of the voice. Same goes for whitney. 1600 Penn can just die on saturdays or in summer. Give up on save me for now, enough with failed comedies this season.

  • omabin

And this is my pecking order for NBC comedies renewal:

Parks and Recreation > Go On > Community > Whitney > The New Normal > Guys with Kids > 1600 Penn > Up All Night

  • Dan

@Bram – I thought Save Me could air at 8:30 Wed but it seems now thats not happening, NBC could air it when 1600 Penn finishes its run but that show will air all it’s episodes by April 11 and April 18 would seem too late to start a series for 4 weeks.

At this rate the best hope for a Save Me burn off is summer or NBC could use the Wed 8 hour to double up on the series.
