  • Ray

THAT doesn’t make ANY sense at all. GH has me glued to the screen.

  • James

    Must be Vampire story line.

I expect at least a 2.9 Million by 50th Anniversary.

  • Jeff

Not just GH, but all the soaps down a lot? I really am not sure about the validity of the ratings. This is just the latest example of many, many weird ratings weeks where a soap gains 300k viewers, but goes down in 18-49 viewers? I believe the ratings for soaps are way undercounted as it is. GH is great right now, and I am sure the others are great too for their fans.

  • cadburyeasteregg

GH? With The Chew as the lead in? That makes no sense.

  • iggy

See you in Prospect Park, GH, lolol.

  • Nick

GH getting well deserved kick in the butt. Ode to Port Charles makes no sense. Robert Scorpio in a coma. Writers in a coma….

  • maria

GH has a couple of storylines that need to end(kate/connie imo worst storyline they have ever done) or storylines that they shouldnt go down that road(maxie lying about the pregnancy and the doctor having an obsession with patrick causing her to do crazy stuff). Only bright spots lucy, todd and heather they r hilarious. And they r misusing people they have brought back mainly Luke

  • LynTX

Yeah, Nielson is antiquated but until a better system comes along that has ability to capture all modes of viewing (not sure who would pay for it),this is it.

Ratings have been yo-yoing for sometime. Maybe if the writing was more consistent instead of plot-driven; characters kept ‘true to their cores instead of “out of character” shock and awe, viewers wouldn’t tune in and then out. Maybe if writers paid attention to their audiences……..

Even with the soaps down they’re still in much better shape than they’ve been in the last couple of years around this time of year especially GH. Just look at the gain year-to-year of 500,000 viewers. Valentine’s Day made the episode pretty boring towards the end of the week. With President’s Day on Monday they should go back up easily next week.

B&B seems to be the one soap though that’s just ratings proof. There’s nothing stopping this soap right now even with the horrific writing of these lame triangles.

DAYS was only down 22,000 viewers from last year so not a bad week for them except that Friday.

  • JayTN

LynTX…I agree, the ratings have been on a roller coaster for a while now (i.e. a few good weeks followed by a few bad weeks…wash, rinse, repeat).

I was actually expecting a bad week, if for no other reason than the last several weeks had (generally) been good. The only way to truly get an exact count of what people are watching is to have some sort of device attached to each television sold that relays information to Nielsen. However, due to privacy concerns and images of “Big Brother” (as in “…is always watching you” from the George Orwell book “1984”, not the CBS summer reality show) in all likelihood make that option DOA.

  • rob60990

GH was super boring last week besides Laura’s return. All soaps should do well next week with President’s Day.

  • Laurie

So much for the Sami and EJ pairing boosting ratings!!!!

  • Pat

You’ll see Y and R start to show weekly gains over last year. They started to tank at the end of Feb a year ago. Plus the show is vastly improved in the writing dept. It’s on a roll.

  • Sophie

GH has been really good. Love all the vets being back. I can’t miss this show! And all the Sami EJ fans must be sad, cuz the ratings are low for them
    just making Love.

  • Mike

For two weeks now Y&R and B&B have both had great weeks in the ratings. So I was expecting a fall even though I didn’t want it. Esp. during sweeps.

As far as around here the weather has been great and even on days I don’t work I have been outside. And just watching later on DVR. Or even a few days later in some cases.

  • moshane58

Stuff it Nielsen.Soap fans are loyal. Please get a different ratings. We loose to many shows day and night over Nielsen. If they don’t watch it live then they start knocking off veiwers.Sick of it.Don’t catch it in the daytime they catch it on DVR or soapnet.

  • Mike

Nielsen is not responsible for when people watch and what advertisers want. All they are paid to do is gather the information. They have no control over whether advertisers are willing to pay more for live viewers than they are for DVR or alternate viewers.

Alternate ways of viewing are for the convenience of the viewer. The bills for the shows are paid for the most part by live viewers. It has always been that way and still is for the most part.

I know how important live viewers are to my programs, but if I choose the convenience of my DVR I can’t lame anyone but me when the ratings fall or the show gets cancelled.

Last week I had many chances that I was home and could have watched Y&R and B&B live but I chose to be out walking and other things. I could have also chosen to watch them that night on my DVR but again I chose to watch or do something else. So my viewing didn’t count when the shows needed it most. But that was my choice …. not the Neilsen’s fault.

  • mitch monroe

gh will do ok just keep are 80 and 90s favorites on screen.

  • robert sprague

I agree with you mitch I also think more people are watching there soap at different times mothers and familys cant stay home they have to work there watching them on soap net and dvr and now on line . I know my self I can only watch gh at it 2pm time slot once a week because I work so I have to watch on line or soap net, networks need to find another way of counting viewers or start counting soapnet and on line viewers. I do know gh is great right now not a fan of the d.i.d. storyline but we have are favorite chracther back on the show. keep giving us luke and laura heather Felici a anna lucy tracy frisco and bobbi. love rafe and molly together . give us more micheal alexis sam and Elizabeth. the show is great right now but Robert needs to be out of the coma and back in port Charles with luke laura and ana give us sean and tiffany for the 50th.

  • bizzarr

i bet this week will be better for all shows keep watching
