Nielsen TV Ratings: ©2013 The Nielsen Company. All Rights Reserved.

NOTE: All ratings are "live plus same day" from Nielsen Media Research unless otherwise indicated.

Definitions:

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.  More information on ratings is available here.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Nikita still tied Cult’s premiere (with more total viewers) and beat 90210, so even if it doesn’t adjust up it doesn’t really matter. Cult is still getting cancelled and Nikita will be renewed for syndication purposes unless it suddenly drops to 0.1 for the rest of the season.

  • Jamey

poor Rob has harped about Cougar Town for 4 years. They will have to sedate him when TBS renews it in a couple of weeks.

  • tommie

We all know Nikita is safe due to profitable syndication deals, right?

I’m guessing 90210, Beauty and the Beast, Cult and the Carrie Diaries are all headed towards the slaughter. I think Pedowitz will be harsher than anyone think.

  • Pavelsauce

    @SJ

It’s probably just your browser. The website looks fine on Safari in iOS 6.1.

  • Dan

@Starship – The difference is Nikita airs on fridays where numbers are typically a lot lower and it stil does better than 90210 (Which I still believe will get a final season) and on par with BATB which has a nice Vampire Diaries lead in, and the low rated Cult. Theefore Nikita gets cut a lot more slack for its fourth and likely final season. Cult and BATB will both be cancelled and CW will likely give a short final season to 90210 to wrap things up. It’s the CW, they wrap the shows that once did well for the network which is the exact opposite of their parent company CBS.

  • Richard Steven Hack

Not good for Nikita. Not relevant of course due to syndication, but still not good in general terms. It would be nice to see it hold .5 consistently. However, as others pointed out, for some reason this week hasn’t been good to pretty much everyone.

This week had Amanda in it, but it was a bit lackluster somehow. Nice fight at the end, though.

  • Dan

@Tommie – With Those 4 shows cancelled that means that the CW would have 5 hours in the fall to fill with new programming. I think they would rather have 7 returning shows and 3 new dramas (Since ANTM will be airing this summer and not in the fall) I think that CW will cancel Cult and Beauty and the Beast and give Carrie Diaries another shot. I also still believe in the final 90210 season. People call me crazy but history repeats itself.

    It’s more likely

Renewed: Arrow, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, 90210 (final season), Nikita, Hart of Dixie, Carrie Diaries

Cancelled: Beauty and the Beast, Cult, Emily Owens, Gossip Girl

I don’t see this May as a slaughter year for CW, not enough new series have performed well to justify so many other shows getting cancelled.

  • Ashley

CSI-NY needs to be cancelled. It actually went down after Undercover Boss and then up after it with Blue Bloods. So people actually switched channels in the middle…sad…

Nikita should get renewed since Fridays is a slow night period with no lead-in. It’s
not like BaTB with a huge lead-in and loses more than half the demo. It’s only doing .01-.02 better which is not good.

  • iggy

… there used to be a lot more people around here who actually cared about the topic at hand.

Yeah, but it seems kinda pointless when all the networks are marching toward zero.

  • thesnowleopard

    @Jarrod
Actually, the other CW shows didn’t do noticeably worse than usual. And lots of people figured Cult would tank right out of the gate.

And why would you assume Nikita will be adjusted up when the only time it was adjusted this season in the finals was down?

Its chances are the same as always–either the CW will hold its nose and renew the show, while dreaming of syndication, or it won’t. Nikita’s ratings are far too bad for it to be renewed on its own merits.

  • John A

I agree with that you forget that a show is back and thats why ratings drop is nonsense. If you really like a show you would look it up and make yourself aware when its back.

  • The Rookie

Since we talk about the syndication economics, overseas and Netflix for the CW, would they get a greater $$ gain renewing 90210 for a short last season? This is making the assumption that Nikita and HOD are renewed)

Can they get similar gains taking a risk and promoting something new? (will opportunity costs beat potential gains down the road?)

In my opinion based on very low ratings and unknown variables in syndication this is the least predictable of the networks.

  • John A

Has Nikita ever adjusted up? I follow ratings alot and certainly dont recall it unless in season 1 but i doubt it did then either.

  • Brandy

Lol at Nikita. So this week its sixth highest rated in total viewers bareley beating CD and ties Cult for second lowest in demo at 0.3,behind 90210.Personally I think CD,BaTB,Cult will be cancelled, HoD &Nikita ( sadly) renewed and 90210 renewed for a final short season.I think CDs a giner cause of its 0.4 Mon and BaTB I say will go cause its not getting great ratings after VD and will fall much further on Fri and CW didnt try it with SC.That would still leave 4 spots open for new shows plus Mark could and should pick up extra shows for schedule spackle like cheap reality or LA Complex, a cheap import filler show.

  • thesnowleopard

    @John A
Not this season. I’m far too lazy to look back over previous seasons to see if it’s *ever* adjusted up (It probably has), but let’s just say that upward adjustment in the finals is an unusual event for the show.

  • Sam

@Brandy Why is it sad that you think Nikita would be renewed? We get it, you don’t watch the show… you don’t need to keep harping on about how much you want it to fail. I don’t like very many shows on The CW except for Arrow & Nikita because both skew more toward a male market (albeit, last season of Nikita was disappointing and I don’t like the relationship focus because it’s beginning to feel like a teen drama and not an action show) but I don’t keep harping on about how much I want every other show on the network to fail. So please, be quiet.

Anyway, it was a pretty disappointing night all round, even for Friday numbers. Shark Tank did well… that’s about it really.

  • Xerophytes

I wonder if Fox secretly wished that they gave Fringe a full season…

  • getmilk

Brandy: don’t be an idiot. There’s NO way 90210 will get another season, even if it’s a shortened one. Can you imagine what kind of numbers they’ll get?? 0.2 and 0.1 in the demos?

They should have plenty of time between now and May to wrap up all the crappy stories.

  • Emma

@getmilk If Nikita is at a .3 and continues the trend of dropping off season to season it also may be getting .2 or .1 in the demo next season. I don’t care if 90210 returns as I don’t watch it but the possibility of a .2 in the demo may not matter.

  • rob60990

“For example, was there any reason to call Nikita fans “losers”? I’m a Nikita fan and I assure you that I’m far from being a loser, but it still annoys me that you feel free to hurl insults and then bemoan getting them back.”

Ok I’ll admit I was wrong here, however I have had Nikita fans call me names and that was even before I said anything bad about it. One time I stated I don’t think the CW would renew it and got attacked.

“I’ve skipped over most of the comment section today, so I don’t know if anyone’s already mentioned this, but does the “You Also Might Like” section overlap with the first few comments on your guys’ browsers as well (or is Firefox being weird again)?”

Had that problem in a couple of threads yesterday.
