3/4 Update: No surprises as The Following, New Girl, The Mindy Project & Raising Hope were all renewed.
If you've got the sense that there's not much new I can think of to talk about with Fox show futures this week, you'd be right.

After two successive weeks of 0.7 adults 18-49 ratings for Touch, it is stone cold dead. Treat its Fan Excuse Bingo players with pity. Or derision. At your personal discretion.

The Mindy Project ratings still have it positioned as likely to be renewed.

Where the heck is The Goodwin Games anyway? Other than an episode order reduction from 13 to 7 by Fox already, there's been no more news about it.

The cancellation bear will twiddle his thumbs (such as his paws have) and wait.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the Fox Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Fox is to air The Goodwin Games at 8:30 Monday starting May 20.

  • Nick

I wonder why The Goodwin Games is getting burned of Mondays@8:30, of all places. Why would they purposely hurt MasterChef? Are they shrinking it back to 1 day per week?

I wonder if we’re ever going to get an all-out schedule like CBS did.

  • Ultima

I wonder why The Goodwin Games is getting burned of Mondays@8:30, of all places.

The show was created by Bays & Thomas… maybe they’re hoping that How I Met Your Mother viewers will switch over.

  • Ultima

Gratned you don’t predict reality shows often, but considering Fox is airing Hell’s Kitchen starting in March, does that mean there will be a spring and summer edition this year?

Yes, there are two cycles this year.

If so does that affect which show(s) the Bear snacks on?

  • Dan

@Nick – Is Masterchef airing Mondays at 9? I figured with this news Fox would shift their comedy block repeats to Monday and air Hells Kitchen/Masterchef on Tuesdays and maybe Bones and Glee repeats Fridays. Also 830 makes sense if they want to keep Raising Hope, New Girl and Mindy Project in their same slots but in a different day.

  • Meliwa

@Dan–I figure Hotel Hell will be on Mondays at 9 like it was last summer. But with the summer schedule essentially turning Fox into the Gordon Ramsay Network, they could interchange Hotel Hell, Hell’s Kitchen, Masterchef, and Kitchen Nightmares.

  • Jonny C…. formerly Jon

Reading that article: “. While not officially cancelled, Goodwin Games is considered dead.”

The Cancellation Bear must’ve forgot he already ate this show then lol.

  • Dan

@Jonny C – The cancellation bear hasn’t eaten the show yet but he has captured it and is saving it to be devoured on July 1.

@Meliwa – Maybe Hotel Hell will be aired on fridays with Kitchen Nightmares repeats. Who knows? FOX has yet to announce the schedule but it seems repeats of the 3 returning comedies plus Goodwin Games will air on Mondays. The rest of the week is some combination of Bones & Glee repeats, maybe Touch or Following repeats, Masterchef, Hell’s Kitchen, Hotel Hell, repeats of Raising Hope, New Girl, and The Mindy Project. We might also see those 2 Ben & Kate episodes burned off while its likely. Saturdays and Sundays will remain the same.

@Bill – I think its time for a Goodwin Games update on this page.

Touch is better than the rest of FOX’s lineup combined, the only other show worth watching on the network is Raising Hope. It’s a shame viewers are rejecting Touch, sad that they’re ruled by Idol, New Girl, and animated crap.

  • Rebecca

All of my regular network shows end their seasons by May 19th (Bob’s Burgers), so when Goodwin Games starts on the 20th it’ll have no real competition other than reruns methinks.

I’m glad I stuck with Mindy…her show has improved a lot IMO. I just can’t get into Touch….still watching bits of the season premiere, I’m behind.

  • Dan

@Rebecca – Goodwin Games has Bachelorette on ABC and Rules of Engagement reruns as competition both shows will probably crush GG. My guess is Goodwin Games new episodes will do about the same as Raising Hope repeats.

  • Coffeemarc

Maybe Touch never had a chance, who knows. There was a two part episode May of 2012 which seemed like the end of Season 1. Wait until fall for it to start, and we get an episode in September of 2012. Start of Season 2? Nope. Actually the end of Season 1. Huh? Then it was announced to start up in November. Nope. Finally it starts in February 2013. Punch holes that big in story telling, and you’re bound to lose viewers.

  • Nick

I want Raising Hope to last till Hope’s in college.

In all seriousness, i know that won’t happen. But i hope Raising Hope can squeeze out 2 or 3 more seasons after this.

If it moves to Friday’s next season, obviously it won’t last another season after season 4. I guess im just holding out hope that the only reason it’s getting renewed isnt because it’s close to syndication. If thats the only reason Raising Hope is getting renewed, thats depressing.

“Sorry, but The Following must go! The stupidity of the characters get more aggravating each episode. During Monday’s episode I was screaming at the TV and almost shut the crap off.”

I’ve been having the same reaction as you for the past couple of episodes! It’s gotten so stupid that I don’t think I can handle watching it anymore.

Now as for Touch, I’ve been enjoying this season more than last season, which got a bit monotonous. Unfortunately it’s a bit too little too late to save the show now.

  • Rik

I cant believe the mindy project is even being looked at for getting a second season

  • steve

Raising Hope is FOX’s best show.
I have no doubt it will be renewed.

The “My Name Is Earl” cast episode really was hilarious!

It makes no sense at all how Fox- which seems to do most things right- UNlike NBC- …is treating TOUCH. The show is excellent this season- even coming in after missing the 2 hour premiere. It would do much better on another night. Last year, it got a little complicated for the simpletons– But this year- it focuses on finding a little girl who’s been kidnapped and would have worked after Glee or another show that performs well with the youth. Fridays – AFTER a show that does nothing for its audience- was just a plain, bad decision.

  • Ultima

It would do much better on another night.

Except that FOX doesn’t have another night available on its schedule. Their scheduling is about what’s best for the network overall, not what’s best for Touch.

  • Ultima

    Fox Fall 2013
    7:30 – The Cleveland Show

All of the currently ordered episodes are scheduled and there’s no way that new epiodes would be ready for the fall. FOX has already picked up a new animated show for midseason, so I can’t imagine The Cleveland Show being on the schedule at all.

    9 – The Following

The Following will be held for midseason; they can’t air it uninterruped with a fall premeire.

Also, six new dramas and no new comedies seems extremely unlikely.
