   good rebound for s@b. the only thing i’m going to say about bunheads is that i will be shocked if it gets renewed. the only reason they gave it a back order was to see it ratings would increase, which they didn’t. they decreased. ratings are miserable and there’s no reason the network should keep it. it has proven that its audience isn’t going to grow.

   Bunheads got the JBD treatment….a mercy small 8 episode back order, they gave it a chance…it didn’t take. They do have a slot to fill when TSLOTAT ends….but that slot might go to TLG.

   The Summer schedule is set, all that remains is how and where they put TLG.

   S@B is not going anywhere yet. It’s doing well, being steady and smashing the CW competition. It’s nowhere near the peak in early S1 but it’s currently still the 2nd highest show on ABCF.

   TLG is more up in the air, I think it has a good shot at getting renewed but this season has shown it performs best after PLL and there’s a good chance ABCF will want that for Twisted.

   @ Panda Thanks for the details. That would narrow any slim prospects for renewal to the Fall. However, there’s also the issue of the pace at which the show’s storyline proceeded. Last month, Deadline.com carried an article in which Amy Sherman Palladino responded to a comment that the the plot moved too slowly and that the first ten episodes contained a lot of “wasted time”. Her response was:

   “If you burn through all of your plot points in one episode, how do you get 5 years out of a show?” she said. “Longevity is important to someone with my Nieman’s bills.”

   This reflects a fairly cavalier attitude about something that, IMO, was clearly a problem with the show. ASP had a habit of frequently picking up and dropping parts of the storyline, thereby apparently frustrating a lot of viewers. Assuming ABCF is even interested in renewing Bunheads, I foresee considerable difficulty in getting ASP to write the series on terms that require some changes in the pace with which the storyline unfolds. What really baffles me is that ASP didn’t step up the pace of the show even after she learned that viewers were becoming impatient with the show’s slow evolution. In short, even if ABCF has space on its schedule for Bunheads, I question if the ASP would make the necessary commitment to fix the show. In short, although I’m still not past the point of denial, it’s probably over for Bunheads.

   @ The Old Man You would have liked last night’s Bunheads. The main musical number was that 50′s classic “Makin’ Whoopee”. I’ll bet a guy with you moniker can relate to that. What I don’t understand though is how the writer expected the generation x and generation y viewers who comprise the show’s target audience to relate.

   I’ve never watched Bunheads, but my guess (hope) is the writer is trying to reach your generation with these tunes. The 50′s was the birth of rock & I’ve noticed other shows doing the same. I hope the trend continues as it’s amazing how many 20-somethings in my life I’ve turned on to the “greats” from Rosemary Clooney on down.

    I hope DALLAS can stay above a .6 because it’s one of MY TOP SHOW and I really like PAMELA BARNES her character is great and I like the actress. I also really like JON ROSS JR. Hes a great character. I wish theY get rid of all the old people story lines though. It’s holding the show back. I mean, sure keeping the orginals around here and there but please stop giving entire episodes away to them. I damn near fell asleep during last weeks trial episode YAWN. Or the whole BOBBY stuff now that JR (LARRY HANGMAN) is passed on in real life it’s time to kick these characters to the curb THEY ARE HURING THE 18-49 numbers. Sometimes I feel like skiping their stupid boring storylines but it’s so heavily connected to my two favs PAMELA AND JON ROSS JR I can’t. agh. Please have them downgraded to guest stars.. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

    just WRITE THEM OUT after JR’s funeral. Maybe bobby can take his wife and move and that horrible actor but needed for JON ROSS JR. to toy with CHRISTOPHER can take it and then have SUE ELLEN in some old age home somewhere. Give her the classic dementia storyline as a way out. That would work and it give her a little bit of an interesting plot on her way out too!

    Bye Bunheads! I really can’t see ABCF renewing with its poor ratings. From the start I was skeptical that it would work with ABCF especially with a pilot that was old skewing. This second half of the season, I saw how they tried to appeal to ABCF’s demo with emphasizing the 4 girls and their love interests but it didn’t work or too little too late.

    Anyway, it was great having ASP back on TV even for just 18 episodes. Yeah it started really slow but it just had the fun banter and quirky setting that I loved in Gilmore Girls. It was also great to see Emily, Paris, Kirk again haha.

    I never thought I will like a show about ballet but I did appreciate it because of the show. I hope they get an Emmy nomination for dance choreography (which Smash won last year) because they deserve it with all the amazing dance prod they’ve been doing all season long. But likely not because it’s ABCF and I don’t think a show from them ever got an Emmy nomination at all.

    I’ve been enjoying the Dallas reboot & Monday Mornings that follows. Unfortunately from the folks that gave us the excellent Harry’s Law MM is tanking in the ratings. I’ll just enjoy it while I can but look forward to the new season of American Horror Story that’ll feature Kathy Bates from HL.

    imo if the show focused a lot more on the four young dancers it might have clicked more with the target audience that watch abc family. I think giving ASP a free hand was also a big mistake.

    I think ASP is out of touch and 10 years too late!, she needed to understand the types of viewers who tune into abc family because they expect an abc family show, Sherman didn’t understand the networks audience imo.

    Agree, I like Bunheads but the first half of the season focused a lot on the adult characters while the four girls didn’t have that much presence maybe except Boo. I have no problem with the show’s content because I really dig ASP’s writing but I just could not see it appealing to the viewers of Secret Life, PLL, Lying Game etc. This second half actually focused a lot with the 4 girls but I guess it was just too late.

    Bunheads could have worked in the old WB network but the ABC Family audience today is just different. I don’t think it would work with CW as well. Maybe, that’s what made Bunheads appealing to me because it had this old school WB vibe. Oh well.

    Well, as a recent article I read here, let’as hope that the Nielson diary holders watched all of the commercials for Dallas, Being Human and Bunheads instead of just watching the shows themselves… as that will get them renewed faster. Being a guy, you wouldn’t expect me to be into Bunheads but my wife and I like Gilmore Girls and my daughter has been dancing for several years so I gave it a shot and liked it. It reminds me a lot of Gilmnore Girls and they’ve been bringing some of the GG actors onto Bunheads as well. I just hope its not the end of the series.
