Gabe, That’s different from what you first posted. the gospels are supposed to be eyewitness testimony of the life of Jesus. According to Matthew, who is the author in this case, Jesus said these words in his immediate presence. Wrong again. Please check your facts. The gospels recount the life, ministry, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. They are not eyewitness testimony. These books were written by men who had never meet Jesus.

The gospel of Matthew. Matthew probably originated in a Jewish-Christian community in Roman Syria towards the end of the first century A.D. The anonymous author drew on three main sources, including the Gospel of Mark, the sayings collection known as the Q source, and material unique to his own community. It was not written by Matthew the Apostle. It is not a first hand account. It is not lookly that Matthew the Apostle was alive at the end of the first century either.
The gospel of Luke. Most modern critical scholarship concludes that Luke used the Gospel of Mark for his chronology and a hypothetical sayings source Q document for many of Jesus’ teachings. Luke may also have drawn from independent written records. Traditional Christian scholarship has dated the composition of the gospel to the early 60s, while other critics date it to the later decades of the 1st century.
The gospel of Mark. According to tradition and some early church writers, the author is Mark the Evangelist, the companion of the apostle Peter. The gospel, however, appears to rely on several underlying sources, varying in form and in theology, which tells against the tradition that the gospel was based on Peter’s preaching. The text is a compilation which may include eye witness accounts as well as known apostolic preachings, and pre-existing written records that do not exist today but can be confirmed from 2nd century commentators. Some of the stories in the gospel may have been transmitted orally before being written down. Various elements within the gospel suggest that the author wrote in Syria or Palestine for a non-Jewish Christian community.
NONE of the writers of the gospels was an apostle or were present when Jesus spoke.

Have you never heard the saying “lost in translation”?
The Dartmouth Ancient Language Professor translated the orginal langage text into English, saying that most of the Bibles translated the text improperly.
The KJV translated the gospel from ancient greek to ancient latin to latin to English. Just use translating software and go from english to greek to latin to english with a paragraph of information and see what changes.

One last time you need to look at the whole teaching not one statement. Here we go from Mark because it is the closest to a first hand account. I’ll use King James eventhrough it is very poorly translated from the orginal text.

13And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.
14But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
15Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
16And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
17And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
18And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
19Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
20And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
21Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
22And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
23And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
24And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
27And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

Oh wait look at those two lines! Don’t they change thing alot? It’s really hard for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, and it’s hard to a rich man to get into heaven. But with God all things are possible.
Isn’t Jesus just taking the long way about telling us we need God in our lives to go to heaven?

Matthew, Later in that gospel teaching Jesus say “33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Who said that Jesus thought it was OK for a few to hold most of the worth?

38Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
