CBS News’ FACE THE NATION WITH BOB SCHIEFFER is the #1 Sunday morning public affairs show. FACE THE NATION placed first in adults 25-54 (tied) – the demographic most important to those who advertise in News – as well as viewers and households on Sunday, Feb. 24. The CBS broadcast posted 3.09m viewers, 0.7/03 in adults 25-54 and a 2.2/06 in households, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings. Editor’s Note: FACE THE NATION’s second half-hour was broadcast contiguously across 56% of the CBS affiliates.
For the February 2013 sweep, FACE THE NATION is first in viewers (3.41m), adults 25-54 (0.9/04) and households (2.4/06). FACE THE NATION posted its first February sweep victory in households and viewers since the advent of people meters (August 1987) and its first February sweep win in adults 25-54 since 1994. FACE THE NATION posted its best February sweep delivery in viewers since 2003, adults 25-54 since 2008 and households since 2006.
Season-to-date, FACE THE NATION is even in adults 25-54 (0.8/03), up +9% in viewers (3.26m from 2.99m) and up +14% in households (2.4/06 from 2.1/05) compared to last year. Season-to-date, FACE THE NATION is first viewers (3.26m), adults 25-54 (0.8/03, tied with NBC) and households (2.4/06) among the Sunday morning public affairs programs.
On the broadcast, CBS News Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett substituted for Bob Schieffer and interviewed Education Secretary Arne Duncan; Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA); Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.); Gov. Martin O’Malley (D-MD); Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-VA); Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-CO); and Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ). Garrett also hosted a panel on the connection between video games and gun violence with Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA); Michael Fitzpatrick, executive director of the National Mental Health Alliance; Tim Winter, head of the Parents Television Council; Mary Ellen O’Toole, former FBI profiler; and Chris Ferguson, psychology professor at Texas A&M International University.
