90210 100The CW has announced that this season of 90210, its fifth will be at last and that this season's season finale in May will also be its series finale.

Here's the release.

February 28, 2013 (Burbank, CA) ? After five seasons of new loves, old flames and shocking betrayals, the stars of 90210 will bid farewell to the world-famous zip code, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President of The CW.   With seven original episodes left to air, the show will sign off with a series finale on Monday, May 13 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET).

“The CW has had five great seasons with America’s favorite zip code, 90210,” said Pedowitz.  “I’d like to thank the talented cast, producers, and crew for all their hard work and dedication to the series. We are very proud of the West Beverly High alumni.”

During this final season, the characters put their relatively carefree days at West Beverly High behind them and launched into adulthood, with only their friendships to lean on.  The series stars Shenae Grimes as Annie Wilson, Tristan Wilds as Dixon Wilson, AnnaLynne McCord as Naomi Clark, Jessica Stroup as Silver, Michael Steger as Navid Shirazi, Jessica Lowndes as Adrianna Tate-Duncan and Matt Lanter as Liam Court.

I really liked 90210, but this season hasn’t been good. The CW made the right decision not to renew it. I hope they’re able to give it a proper ending.

@ Starship….the Life Unexpected “finale” was four minutes tacked on at the end, it was an ok end,i guess….considering they had no time. I do worry 90210 will have no time to finish this off proper.

  • The Original J

Thank goodness. I was worried they were going to make another dumb decision a la Gossip Girl and give it a shortened final season renewal.

  • s0303

finally the cw made a good decision…sorry for its fans, but those rating do not deserve a shortened final season…hopefully this somewhat increases the chances of batb, though i’m not holding my breath :)

  • Fox

I’m a fan of the show, but I even I don’t think it deserves the shortened season treatment that Gossip Girl got. At least with that show, you had some longer-term, character-driven stories that deserved to be played out at a more natural pace. I don’t feel that with 90210. Most of it’s been erratic and always-changing for awhile now.

  • Dan W

Really sad about this news. While the ratings have been terrible, I truly thought it would be renewed for a short of 10 episodes, maybe even to air next summer. Surprised that the announcement came so late though. Really hoping they gave the writers notice prior to this release so they can end the show the way they want too and in a way that will make fans happy.

  • Brandy

@Dave, ive come to terms with it, accepted it an am at peace with it and am ok because I have the seasons on dvd(will buy five when its out)& 90210 had a good run, five seasons is good.

  • Sam

We’ll now with HOD and nikita (syndication purposes ) both being locks for renewals . I see BATB and CD getting renewed and cult cancelled . Or cw could surprise us and cancelled both CD and cult . But I know for a fact the upfront a renewals will be Hod nikita BATB …. Cult and CD are a mystery

  • hoki

One of the TCD, TBATB and HOD is still getting canceled.

  • Dan W

Also wondering if they will create some kind of retrospective to air before the series finale like they did with Gossip Girl. Since The Carrie Diaries will be ending in April, they have the 8 pm Monday slot open. Too bad they didn’t have an earlier notice or else they may have been able to get former Beverly Hills 90210 stars to return for the finale (especially Jennie Garth since she was on the show before). Doubt they have enough time now though!

  • DM

Cult is not a mystery, it will definitely be cancelled. If they’re already moving it to Fridays that’s a bad sign. The toss up is between BatB and TCD

  • KT

The CW death battle of shows thins ever so slightly!

    C’mon HoD!

  • david

Not surprised by this news. the show was geting a .4 and then .3 most of the season. That means they will have room for a better show nthis fall.

  • Jerry

BatB is definitely coming back its overseas numbers are really strong right now.

TCD and Cult are up in the air. Hart of Dixie probably depends on if CW is making anymore teen female soaps. It looks like they’re going more in that male direction under Pedowitz.

  • Nick

@Dan W TV Line who originally reported the cancellation said it will most likely be paired with a retrospective like GG.

I know, I’m kind of disappointed that Jennie Garth won’t be returning.

  • Wright

    Finally. Now cancel TCD.

  • Phill

at least GG had a final season LOL

  • Alan

That sucks! But it was pulling 0.5’s and 0.6’s before it was moved to 9, so I blame that timeslot. I will miss it, it was one of my favorite shows, but I think I understand The CW. I hope they give it a closure

  • DM

Oversea numbers don’t matter. Neither do DVR numbers really

  • Tom

I hope this finally teaches people that the CW farewell season is not about closure, but about having a spackle option with syndicated backend.

And yeah, this is good news for the bubble shows. Even if CW airs ANTM and Nikita in Fall, even if CW airs 3 new shows in Fall… they still need 2 out of the three bubble shows for Fall – and given the number of unknown performing new shows, ANTM’s slot, etc., probably need the last of the three for Spring/spackle too.
