90210 100The CW has announced that this season of 90210, its fifth will be at last and that this season's season finale in May will also be its series finale.

Here's the release.

February 28, 2013 (Burbank, CA) ? After five seasons of new loves, old flames and shocking betrayals, the stars of 90210 will bid farewell to the world-famous zip code, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President of The CW.   With seven original episodes left to air, the show will sign off with a series finale on Monday, May 13 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET).

“The CW has had five great seasons with America’s favorite zip code, 90210,” said Pedowitz.  “I’d like to thank the talented cast, producers, and crew for all their hard work and dedication to the series. We are very proud of the West Beverly High alumni.”

During this final season, the characters put their relatively carefree days at West Beverly High behind them and launched into adulthood, with only their friendships to lean on.  The series stars Shenae Grimes as Annie Wilson, Tristan Wilds as Dixon Wilson, AnnaLynne McCord as Naomi Clark, Jessica Stroup as Silver, Michael Steger as Navid Shirazi, Jessica Lowndes as Adrianna Tate-Duncan and Matt Lanter as Liam Court.

    @ Alan

The timeslot for the network is a huge concern everything that airs at 9pm bleeds heavily from its lead-in instead of growing from it so they got some issues there that they need to resolve.

  • Mark

With the way this show brings in characters and gets rid of them, they could tack on 2 minutes at the end to finish everything up.

In my opinion, they just moved too fast with the storylines the past 2 years, and things were so unrealistic, even for tv!

let me rant for a moment….

Liam in 2 years has gotten drunk and bought a bar, became a movie star, nearly killed his girlfriend, let his bar burn up, slept with his college professor, got kidnapped by his bodygaurd, had his dead girlfriend return, and then go on some weird boxing kick, not bad for being 18 -20 years old.

Naomi just got too unrealistic, marrying her nerdy lover, divorcing her nerdy lover, becoming a party planner, and now this whole half brother story is so dumb. She should have been written out after season 3.

Annies stories were also pretty dumb, ever since her killing Jasper’s uncle, then the whole season with Jasper they have just wasted her. Sure, she became a call girl who fell in love with her John, as well as becoming a well respected author, and cleaning girl for that rich old lady who left her all the money, and have both her parents leave her, and then she got shot, and fell in love with the guy in the wheel chair, but he died…

Basically all the characters were becoming so unrealistic, that the show didn’t even make sense anymore… In my opinion at the beginning of season 4 they should have let Naomi, Adrianna and Dixon go, and focused on Annie, Silver, Navid, Liam, Teddy, Navid’s girlfriend (forget what her name was, but she was Bruce Willis’ daughter and about the most “real” character throughout the entire shows run) and brought in a few new “normal” people. Instead of it focusing on crazy drama, they could have continued realistic plots and people would have stuck with the show.

I am continually amazed at how this seasons episodes, even being just 44 minutes feel like 2 full hours. Way too much crammed in each episode and so much of it is just stupid. I’ve enjoyed the show, but honestly glad it is ending!

@DM oversease numbers are what’s keeping nikita safe for a 4th season

  • Dan

Now that 90210 is cancelled, I think its likely CW goes with a schedule like this

    8:00 The Carrie Diaries
    9:00 Hart of Dixie

Mondays are troubled but HOD and CD are compatible enough where they can worork well on MOndays together

    8:00 Supernatural
9:00 NEW DRAMA The Hundred or Selection

Most people agree that Supernatural has done so well that it shouldnt be moved back to Fridays. Well I agree, and it has done well enough to launch a new drama Tuesdays at 9.

    8:00 Arrow
9:00 NEW DRAMA The Hundred or Selection

Arrow will remain in its slot and likely launch a new drama, whichever doesnt air Tuesdays at 9.

    8:00 The Vampire Diaries
    9:00 The Originals

Of course The Vampire Diaries will remain in its slot and its sinoff The Originals is likely to follow.

    8:00 Nikita
9:00 ANTM or Reruns or New Reality show

Now I’m convinced that with Nikita remaining at 8, CW will either push ANTM season to the fall at 9 on Friday, air encores of one of their new dramas or air a new reality show. Evidently this is their burnoff/rerun slot that other networks would have on Saturdays.

  • Tom

    @ Jerry

Where did you find the overseas numbers for B&B?

  • Steve

Really not surprised at all. Never watched the show at all but I know people that like it. I do hope you getter a better paced resolution then fans of Life Unexpected. I’m happy with the wrap up we got considering… I’m just still pissed that it was canceled to begin with.

  • Adrian

Honestly I’d put Arrow, VD and SPN at 9pm and the new shows at 8pm. That lead-in thing doesn’t work. The CW needs to realize that.

Everything drops dramatically from the 8 pm hour. The only show I can recall from recent years doing better than its lead-in was HOD last year.

  • Dan

CW canceling 90210 and Cult, has made Nikita, Hart of Dixie, The Carrie Diaries and Beauty and the Beast on the bubble. Since all 4 have similar ratings for their timeslots, I still truly believe that syndicated bound Nikita and Hart of Dixie will be renewed and The Carrie Diaries will get a “Life Unexpected” type second season. I really do think Beauty and the Beast will be cancelled and I will until May. CW could renew BATB but I think its unlikely.

I think for CW its not about what CW will save between Nikta, HOD, TCD and BATB. I think Nikita and Hart of Dixie are certain to be renewed.

I think its a choice mainly between freshman dramas The Carrie Diaries and Beauty and the Beast. In which I think CW will pick TCD.

  • Richard Steven Hack

Well, that resolves THAT question. So much for Pedowitz and his “predilection” for giving aging shows one last season. Obviously he isn’t as stupid as some of the posters here.

Now all they have to do is cancel Cult, TCD and BATB and all their problems will be over! :-)

    Cult is definitely doomed.

    TCD is definitely doomed.

BATB is not quite definitely doomed, but highly likely to be canceled.

HoD is the ONLY LOW-rated show on the CW (besides Nikita) likely to be renewed for syndication reasons.

Nikita, Arrow, Supernatural and TVD all locks for renewal.

  • gary

    thanks cw

  • Shane

It’s too bad the actors didn’t have a chance to audition for pilots this year.

  • Rachel

I think CW 2013-14 is most likely gonna look like this

    The Selection

    Oxygen or The Hundred

The Tommorrow People(Also Greg Berlanti Show)

    The Originals(Duh)

  • Richard Steven Hack

Sam: “oversease numbers are what’s keeping nikita safe for a 4th season”

NO. Syndication potential is what is keeping Nikita safe. Has nothing to do with current overseas sales, other than possibly convincing WB that the syndication potential is really there.

Syndication revenue is potentially greater than first run international sales because it goes on for more seasons.

Also international sales only apply to the network, not the studio. The studio is concerned about syndication revenue. Depending on its estimate of syndication ROI, it may offer the network a lower price for first run seasons.

International sales may influence the network if they tip the show over to profitability – but they still depend on ad revenue from local airings and if they go down, international sales may not help the show survive.

  • Jerry

    @ Tom

They’re not released to the public, a friend of mines works in the industry and had access to the numbers and shared them with me on Tuesday. Somebody leaked last year’s numbers on a blog site so you might be able to Google it within the next few days to see if its been leaked.

  • Jerry

    @ Shane

That’s the bad part of this late decision is that they will have to wait for the next pilot season to audition but the good thing about some of the actors is that they might be able to go into movies.

  • Ted Craig

I still think TCD returns and this strengthens my belief.

  • Tom

    @ Jerry

Thanks. I asked because I tried finding the similar info a few times before and came up with zilch. Now I know why.

  • Dan

@Richard Steven Hack – With Cult & Emily Owens cancelled and Arrow renewed I think in terms of freshman dramas, CW will renew 1 more and cancel one more. If its between The Carrie Diaries and Beauty and the Beast then its TCD over BATB. BATB’s retention isn’t great but TCD can hold a troubled night. I don’t think CW will cancel both.

Most people assume that CW will premiere 4 dramas next fall, while its possible I think its unlikely.

The Originals looks like a post VD slot series and The Selection, The Hundred and Oxygen are all god candidates. Best guess is that CW premieres 3 in the fall and keeps one for midseason like what CBS does. That way say if the order for The Carrie Diaries is only 13 episodes, if it flops then The CW can plug in a new drama there, or like this year if one of the fall offerings doesnt do well then CW can burn through its 13 ep order and plug in a midseason drama.

  • Bitter Ringer Fan

I’m sorry about your loss Flop0210 fans but you can’t say you didn’t see it coming. Alright i was considering TCD dead but with this news the new fight is BATB and TCD, i give it a slight bigger chance of survival to BATB though. Cult dead, Flop of dixie renewed.

  • Jarrod

They could have at least extended in by 2-4 more episodes and then aired back-to-back episodes seeing as TCD will be out at April. This way it’s giving the writers more time to time to complete the storylines seeing as they wrote the final script back in January and have probably started filming it, seeing as filming ends around March.
