    The Future is Now

    I am a big supporter of 3D printing .

Welcome to the Future” like a 3D-printed runabout vehicle with a hybrid engine, three wheels, speeds of up to 110 mph, and capacity to carry up to 1,200 lbs. The Urbee 2 is the result of Jim Kor’s dream for a modern, sustainable vehicle that will someday revolutionize the way that we commute. The exterior’s lightweight construction of ABS plastic allows for a minimum amount of drag and fuel required to operate the car, and it’s stronger and more easily manipulated than steel. Able to hold two passengers, the Urbee could very well be the next big thing in urban transportation.

Singularity is fast approaching. There is now a rudimentary 4D printer.

    I’m glad I don’t like tuna fish.

A whopping 84% of ‘white canned tuna’ is actually escolar, the snake mackerel fish that causes oily anal leakage and was banned by the FDA until 1992. It is still banned in Japan, Italy, and requires warning labels regarding the leaky discharge in Canada, Sweden, and Denmark. Escolar is known as “the ex-lax fish,”

President Obama just nominated Ernest Moniz, an undersecretary of Energy under Clinton and current MIT professor, as his new Energy Secretary. This may signal the President’s move toward energy reality. Mr. Moniz is an advocate of all sources of energy and is positive on fracking and nuclear unlike Sec. Chu.

I’d love to see the President abandon subsidizing “green” energy companies. He is all for research and education as, I believe, most Americans are but we do not want to give our hard earned money to companies that are economically challenged. The money that is going to these companies should be allocated to the universities and in cooperation with private energy companies perform research to develop new energy technologies.

  • Mike W

The President backed off the Armageddon claim regarding the Sequester this weekend.

An interesting aspect of the Sequester is not only the smaller amount of money to be cut for this fiscal year but the across the board cut does not carry over to subsequent years. It seems that the various departments will have discretion as to where to cut there budgets in the out years. Of course this still does not address the big problem, entitlements.

  • Cathy

RedbarSoup, Obama got a tax increase in January remember. He also got a spending increase. Go back and review the fiscal cliff plan.
Do you think it is OK for Obama to ask for a tax increase every two months?

Ratboy, do you remember late March around Easter of 1995? We got seven inches of snow in Detroit.

Jeff, Let’s talk about dumb. The GOP doesn’t support sending money or our jets to Egypt. Conservatives aren’t sure if Egypt is on our side.
Also dumb, let’s just spend money we don’t have. The major hurt of the cuts is coming from military spending. Something, you, Jeff are for and Obama wanted twice the spending cuts for the Military.
The house passed a bill to allow Obama the flexibility to decide where to make the cuts but Obama told the democrats in the senate to block it. He wants others to make the decisions, so he can claim no blame.
Dumb is believing that there is no waste in spending in the Federal Government.

The Head Start scare. Head Start is not a “DAY CARE”. It is a free preschool program. Only 10% of the parents of Head Start students are employed. Head Start hours are limited to 8am to 3pm.
Working parents opt for the free to low cost Jumpstart program (part of AmeriCorps) which is a 7am – 6pm program.
Head Start does not show any long term gains. While Jumpstart studies show that 100% of their students graduate from high school. 50% go to a training program after high school and 10% go to college.
Jumpstart cost the federal government a forth of the headstart program. With most of the federal money helping two groups.
Most of Jumpstart’s federal money comes from being allowed to use college work-study students. Jumpstart gets the workers they need and college students get money for college. A double win.
The federal government should get rid on the headstart program and work with Americorp and have Jumpstart programs installed in there place.

  • Cathy

Mike W, I agree. If you are going to go green, give the money to U.S. colleges or every to the U.S. military to do the research. Keep the money in places that the government gets to keep the research.

d.d. wrote:”…A whopping 84% of ‘white canned tuna’ is actually escolar…”

Was that derived from a Oceana study named “National Seafood Fraud Testing”? I read that report and didn’t find the mislabeling applied to canned white tuna. The majority of fraud found was with “white tuna” at sushi venues. The study does state that {A fish product referred to as “white tuna” is only acceptable as a market name when sold in a can.} however that doesn’t make the “white tuna” in cans to be escolar. The study also states that {Swapping escolar for white tuna is not only illegal, but it can also cause serious health problems.} So, it would be illegal for escolar to be in canned white tuna, I suppose. Anyway, when I buy canned solid white tuna, I usually buy where the label says “albacore”.

@Mike W What’s worst the green companies that got tax $$$ that went bankrupt, we let the china buy up the assets.

  • d.d.

    Apple,

You are almost always right. I took the info from senortuna.

The FDA announced on November 3, 2011, that they had begun using DNA methods for testing seafood for species mislabeling which is good. Before then , I’m not so sure.” If you’re in the US, you should buy a can that says Albacore on it” I still don’t like tunafish.

    Mike W.,

    Watchdog has an article :

Congress: U.S. lab a ‘breeding ground for green scams’

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), home of the million dollar-salaried federal employee exposed during a Watchdog investigation, operates with little oversight and a budget of $352 million.

NREL’s development of green-energy alternatives don’t justify the billions that have been poured into NREL’s budget over the years.

This program is a breeding ground for green-energy scams, and the fact that is its administrator is being paid nearly a million dollars a year. The lab’s director, Dan Arvizu, made $928,069 a year and had received a raise of $275,910 during the past two years. The salaries of his top two lieutenants were more than $500,000 a year and nine others made more than $350,000

Doofus Joe dont talk so good (or did he say it exactly the way he wanted to????)

“Our deep commitment to the security state of Israel. That has not changed,” said Biden. “That will not change as long as I and he are president and vice president of the United States.”

  • Mike W

    Mikey O

I’m against giving money to green companies!!!!

A more effective use of tax dollars would be to award it to research universities and encourage private industry to partner with the university in this research by providing private capital and resources.

  • Ratboy

You can take your “fair share” and stick it!!! The problem with the loons on the left is they dont have any money because they would rather have it handed to them by the rest of us!!

Tax bills for rich families approach 30-year high

WASHINGTON (AP) — The poor rich.

With Washington gridlocked again over whether to raise their taxes, it turns out wealthy families already are paying some of their biggest federal tax bills in decades even as the rest of the population continues to pay at historically low rates.

President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress say the wealthy must pay their fair share if the federal government is ever going to fix its finances and reduce the budget deficit to a manageable level.

A new analysis, however, shows that average tax bills for high-income families rarely have been higher since the Congressional Budget Office began tracking the data in 1979. Middle- and low-income families aren’t paying as much as they used to.

For 2013, families with incomes in the top 20 percent of the nation will pay an average of 27.2 percent of their income in federal taxes, according to projections by the Tax Policy Center, a research organization based in Washington. The top 1 percent of households, those with incomes averaging $1.4 million, will pay an average of 35.5 percent.

Those tax rates, which include income, payroll, corporate and estate taxes, are among the highest since 1979.

The average family in the bottom 20 percent of households won’t pay any federal taxes. Instead, many families in this group will get payments from the federal government by claiming more in credits than they owe in taxes, including payroll taxes. That will give them a negative tax rate.

I’ve never heard of NREL. This is the kind of stuff that makes you sick and we wonder why our debt and deficit continue to increase.

I guess John Kerry was correct – we (Federal Government), in this and many other cases, have the right to be “stupid”.

  • AppleStinx

    @d.d.

Thanks for posting the info, by the way. Being that I live without health insurance, I must take any alarming food report seriously.

The Federal gvts need for money is mirrored by the states need for money, and the city”s need for more revenue as well…so the end result, if nobody stands up for the tax payers we get hit from all directions…remember, taxing the rich is a decoy…they Never Tax Just The Rich!!! the middle class should fight hard when they hear obama say that…just look at the 27 taxes coming at the poor and middle class from Obamacare…and, less people will have health insurance to boot….
