Well, I think this is another nail in Community’s coffin.

Only 1 tenth better than last week’s low when it didn’t have a Big Bang Original and thus gained 2.7 demo of Comedy Viewers…Vampire Diaries is also down a full point from last week. Heck Idol only gained 1 tenth, so it’s not like that’s where the demo went. It doesn’t even seem as if any particular cable show gained any significant amount of demo either.

So, unless it stays at that low 1s (or higher, of course) for the rest of the season & NBC really needs more than Parks & Rec to return from it’s longer running shows, I really think Community is over come finale time.

BTW, no wonder Chevy Chase gave up & eventually missed 2 episodes, his character is barely on the show anymore & even when he says something he is more of an after thought or not needed punchline.

Shows usually drop when surrounded by repeats because people watch the whole night (e.g. the last episode of The Middle that aired without Modern Family was down 10%). It’s a decent result for Community.

I also think you have the Chevy Chase thing the wrong way around. They fired him because he wasn’t turning up to set and they were having to work around him.

NBC affiliate airs ‘Matlock’ instead of network’s Thursday shows

An affiliate decides to air a 21-year-old Matlock movie instead of the network’s Thursday night programming.

You know NBC’s ratings are really bad when…

Matlock‘s ratings are not much different than the regular shows.

I can’t give the link, just Google the headline to find the original EW article and the rest of the piece.

Short story, 20 year old Matlock movie out performs 1600, ties The Office in Cleveland market … ouch.

That awkward moment when Community gets a 1.2 and is still the second highest nbc comedy of the week…

  • TV Addict

Yeah Community!!!!! 100% lock for renewal!!!!! But lesbiahonest, It needs Go On and Whitney to sink if it’s to be renewed. But I’ll never give up hope! #sixseasonsandamovie!!!!!!!!

American Idol, lol, 12.5 million viewers. Damn if they were smart, they would DUMP this panel of judges ecept for Jackson right now and bring back Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell. They might keep Urban too. But even the popular trio they had 25-30 million viewers last time they were on the show. It might be difficult to get them back but it would be well worth it. I bet ratings would go back to 15-20 million right away. As it is this show is going to end up a disgrace to go on with all new judges every year and ratings of 1/4 or 1/3 of what they use to have. They need to have some pride and end the bleeding. It isn’t pretty to see the former top rated show sink like this, it’s painful to watch. And the worst of it is that Nicki Minaj!

There’s no reason they should cancel Community. It held steady on a week when essentially no one was watching TV (because nothing was on), and placing a new show in that slot against TBBT is just asking for trouble. From a business standpoint, it just makes sense to keep cranking out episodes for syndication at a streamlined cost and letting it fill in that death slot

As much as I love Community, it’s just sad that coming in at a 1.2 makes it the second highest-rated comedy on NBC. I’ve kinda thrown my hands up at this point at trying to figure out which comedies they’re bringing back next year besides Parks & Rec. None of them really merit renewal, but it’d be cost-prohibitive to completely start from scratch even if the new crop of pilots turns out awesome.

  • toadytoady

Wow! A repeat of SVU got same rating as an original episode of 1600Penn. (0.9demo) Keep the 14 year old show. Its cheaper in the end because you get two nights for the price of one!

I don’t feel that people should be watching American Idol because of the judges. I remember when the show first started. Paula Abdul was a has been. People were not familiar with Simon or Randy at the time. But most people enjoyed watching the auditions and laughing at people who thought they could sing. As seasons wore on, there was too much banter between Paula and Simon. And imo, it became uncomfortable to watch. At times Simon even disrespected Ryan.

Outside of the diva banter between Mariah and Nicki at the beginning of the season, most of the attention is focused on the contestants. And imo, the top 20 consist of alot of potential stars who have strong voices. I think we are in for a true competition and will be able to witness truly dynamic performances that we haven’t seen for quite some time.

man if only community could get big bang theory reruns.. i wonder how many of those 10 mil didnt even realize it was a rerun.. seems cbs just has so many viewers (though mostly old and dont matter in the ratings i guess.. but still) people must just leave the tv on..

almost 8 million people watch a rerun of elementary at 10 o clock?? really??

  • Thunder

I watched Community because of Chevy Chase – who was hilarious is season 1. Then the fools wrote absurd story lines that either significantly underused his character, or were just not funny. Season 2 gradually detorierated, until the show completely lost the plot. It has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous – nothing against fans of the show, but it is now just complete crap and the sooner they cancel Community and move onto the next project the better !

  • toadytoady

Laddie, i think you are on to something there. My 80 year old mother with Alzheimers used to leave the TV on all day for company, a sort of background noise. She had no idea what she was watching.

@networkman, I agree, no one watches these talent shows for the judges. Shouldn’t the Britney Spears fiasco on X Factor prove that? X Factor & The Voice killed American Idol’s ratings. The audience fragmented. That is exacty when the big declines started. Otherwise the show would usually be down around 10% year to year.

  • bluejays

POI repeat equals what CSI got new almost this week! Also Elementary repeated really strong for a ten slot too. Wonder if it was because they were only up against all repeats too? Or if its a sign that Elementary is going to keep on growing as it’s done the last couple weeks?

  • Ultima

Clearly they weren’t just old people, it had a 2.8 A18-49 demo, better than any regular show on NBC since The Biggest Loser’s premiere.

Clearly they didn’t “just leave the tv on” because that’s not how Nielsen monitoring works.

So I guess they must have been too dumb to realize that it was a rerun.

Or, you know, maybe people just enjoy the show so much, they actually want to watch the episodes multiple times. You should check out the cable ratings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays sometimes…

@Fake Me Out – Interesting article.

NBC should air Murder She Wrote. Maybe pair it with Deception.

  • moraliste

I agree – Fake Me Out’s information was both interesting and amusing.

When the parking space episode of TBBT aired for the first time, my coworkers were talking about it for the entirety of the next day. Last Thursday, my remaining coworkers were reminded that the parking space episode would be airing that night. It was a great episode, and I have no regrets about watching it twice.
