FOX has ordered a second season of the year’s most thrilling new series THE FOLLOWING, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“From the very beginning, we felt Kevin Williamson and Marcos Siega had created a high-quality, edge-of-your-seat drama that could break from the pack, and it is exciting to see the audience responding,” said Reilly. “Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy have given us two of the most compelling characters on television and the entire cast is incredible. I’m delighted to have this thrill ride continue on FOX for another season.”

After only six airings, THE FOLLOWING is already the No. 2 broadcast drama and the No. 3 drama overall this season with Live+7 ratings. Since it launched, the psychological thriller has also quickly established itself as one of the most buzzed-about series in social media, ranking as the No. 1 new broadcast drama in total social comments.

In tonight’s all-new episode (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), Joe Carroll (James Purefoy), with the help of attorney Olivia Warren (guest star Renee Elise Goldsberry), makes a case against Ryan (Kevin Bacon) and the FBI to be transferred to a different facility, but Ryan suspects a larger plan may be at play. Meanwhile, Emma (Valorie Curry) and Joey (Kyle Catlett) arrive at a meeting point and come across another follower who has a secret of his own.

The full-throttle drama continues with nine all-new episodes airing Mondays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

THE FOLLOWING is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Outerbanks Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. The series is created, written and executive-produced by Kevin Williamson. Marcos Siega (“Dexter,” “The Vampire Diaries”) also serves as an executive producer and directed the pilot. “Like” THE FOLLOWING on Facebook at www.facebook.com/TheFollowing. All-New NEW GIRL and THE MINDY PROJECT Air Tuesday, March 12;

One-Hour RAISING HOPE Season Finale Airs Thursday, March 28

FOX has picked up comedy series NEW GIRL, THE MINDY PROJECT and RAISING HOPE for the 2013-14 season, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. NEW GIRL was picked up for a third season, THE MINDY PROJECT received a second season order and RAISING HOPE was renewed for a fourth season.

“We love working with these talented producers and casts who, week after week, create some of the funniest work on television,” said Reilly. “These shows are creatively vibrant, they have established a loyal and passionate audience and they will continue to define and grow the FOX comedy brand next season and beyond.”

Season to date, NEW GIRL ranks No. 1 among comedies in its core Women 18-34 demographic and is a Top 10 comedy among Adults 18-49. THE MINDY PROJECT has emerged as the No. 1 new comedy of the season among Women 18-34, while RAISING HOPE, which has anchored FOX’s Tuesday nights this season, is a Top 20 sitcom among Adults 18-34 and Teens.

In “Guys Night,” the next all-new episode of NEW GIRL, airing Tuesday, March 12 (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT), Jess (Zooey Deschanel) comes to a conclusion about her romantic feelings for Nick (Jake Johnson), and she struggles to tell him – until she’s hopped up on pain medication. But after admitting her feelings, she finds out he may have been keeping something from her. Meanwhile, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) becomes obsessed with buying a fish, which Winston (Lamorne Morris) sees as a metaphor for Schmidt's unresolved feelings toward Cece (Hannah Simone), and Nick plans a bar promotion to impress the bar owner (guest star Odette Annable).

In the all-new “Mindy’s Birthday” episode of THE MINDY PROJECT airing Tuesday, March 12 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), Morgan (Ike Barinholtz) throws Mindy (Mindy Kaling) a surprise birthday party, but when her two worlds collide – personal and professional— it’s nothing to celebrate. Meanwhile, Jeremy (Ed Weeks) and Danny (Chris Messina) fight over the same girl (guest star Kelen Coleman, “Newsroom”).

The hour-long season finale of back-to-back RAISING HOPE episodes, “Burt-Mitzvah/Mom’s Day”, airs on a special night and time, Thursday, March 28 (9:00-9:30/9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) after AMERICAN IDOL (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed). In “Burt-Mitzvah,” Burt’s (Garret Dillahunt) parents (guest stars Shirley Jones and Lee Majors) come to town with the surprising news that their son actually is Jewish. So Burt takes a musical crash course in his newfound heritage, to prepare for the Bar Mitzvah he never had. Then, in “Mom’s Day,” it’s a Mother’s Day to remember as Burt and Barney (Gregg Binkley) take a road trip to Maw Maw’s (Cloris Leachman) childhood home and discover that her mother may still be alive. Needless to say, multiple generations of crazy gather under one roof.

NEW GIRL stars Emmy Award- and Golden Globe-nominated actress Zooey Deschanel as a smart, spirited and single young woman who navigates her way through the highs and lows of modern friendship and romance, alongside her three male roommates (Jake Johnson, Emmy Award- and Golden Globe-nominated Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris) and her beautiful best friend (Hannah Simone). Created by Liz Meriwether (“No Strings Attached”), NEW GIRL is produced by Chernin Entertainment in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Horray for Raising Hope!!!

  • BxActor

Ok I hope the writers of The Following Ad variety next season . Good news for New girl & The Mindy project

Good for Mindy! Good for TVBTN for saying it would be before it was said!

No surprise at all, but WTG: The Following & RH

“Fox must really enjoy the Mindy Project creatively, because the business side made the renewal seem somewhat questionable.”

Not really. Mindy’s spring ratings average is currently ~84% of Fox’s overall scripted spring average (and it’s higher than that in the weeks since B&K got canned). That’s at the bottom of my “likely renewed” range, so not that surprising.

  • Pavelsauce

I don’t watch The Following, but I do watch the other shows that were renewed. I’m happy for all of them. :)

  • JacobYates

“Am I am the only one who thniks it’s king of stupid to renew show for second season before premiere? I mean I know it has Bacon etc, but if it actually flops?”

    Trolling Level: RETARD

  • JacobYates

    Comments aren’t posting. Testing 123.

  • JacobYates

My comments appear, but if I leave the page and come back, they disappear. Any suggestions?

  • MDM

Like all of these shows, good call, FOX.

  • Ellen

    Yay Mindy!!!

  • The End

I can see all your comments just fine. Don’t worry about it.

  • Bookworm

I guess this is good for the fans but this is way too early. However, I find it strange that renewed all of these shows but didn’t include Glee.

  • Woo

Fox schedule is hard to predict next season because with the amount of cimecy pilots ordered their planning to extend their comedy block, I would suggest putting comedies after the superbowl because then they can put glee back at 9 on Tuesday, and have 2 strong comedies start off the night

  • Dan S

Early renewals for all my favorites including The Following. I’m thinking the new Greg Kinnear show Rake will run on Mon at 9pm until TF returns next Jan. If Rake is a ratings winner what a happy dilemma if they have to decide if Rake moves or TF goes to another day.

    I can’t see your comments.

alright glee haters listen up. Glee is getting renewed. Glee gets better ratings than the Mindy Project so if Glee wasn’t renewed then that would be stupid. Glee still pulls in decent ratings, not as good as they once were but that is because a lot of people have DVR. when you include dvr and live ratings together Glee most of the time with those added has gotten a 3.1 which is pretty darn good last I checked. plus live it gets like a 2.2-2.4 range most nights. which is respectable considering that is Fox’s 2nd highest rating

  • ann

I’m thrilled for my new favorite show The Following and Raising Hope too.

  • charlene

“Meanwhile, negotiations for a fifth season of Glee are ongoing, Deadline reports.”

Thanks for this. My hope is when Glee is announced as renewed, it is for 2 seasons as previously talked about.
