Red Widow's woeful premiere ratings, which equalled those of Zero Hour, put it directly inside the jaws of the cancellation bear. It's certain to be canceled.

Will it air all 13 episodes ordered? The cancellation bear doesn't try and guess. Enjoy it while you can. Along with Fox's Mob Doctor, that's two mob dinners for the bear in one season!

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, the "old" Fall predictions will carry over.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Red Widow has only had one episode so far. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Plenty of great shows have had weak pilots. Plus, I didn’t think the pilot was all that bad. In fact, in my opinion, it was pretty good. ABC should give the show some time before making a decision.

  • r0ckmypants

@Vortex4 – ABC doesn’t have much time to give to Red Widow; there are only 8 episodes, and 2 of them already aired… and bombed. If the premiere episode couldn’t do even remotely well with all the promotion it was given, not to mention the bad word of mouth/critic reviews now that the pilot has aired, there’s no reason to suspect it will grow significantly in its remaining 6 weeks. And it’s not even like the premiere put it in iffy territory; it did terribly.

  • Harma

But ABC’s press release said Red Widow was super awesome, why would they lie?

But ABC’s press release said Red Widow was super awesome, why would they lie?

What they told you was true, from a certain point of view.

  • Vortex4

Here are the shows that ABC hasn’t cancelled that I think they should:

    1. Revenge- This show started out great, but then became boring. Don’t get me wrong, Emily VanCamp is a good actress, but her character does the same damn thing in every episode and the story isn’t advancing at all.

    2. Castle- I don’t see how this show gets good ratings. In my opinion that acting is terrible.

    3. Grey’s Anatomy- This is another show with terrible acting. I can’t believe people actually like it.

  • Skylar James

@Vortex4: and I cant believe people post such crap.

Still no changes for OUAT?.. But they should be! I was right about Secret Circle last year, but nobody believed me. And now same story again… :\

  • Leverage-Fan

Just out of curiosity, when can we expect the first announcements on renewed ABC-shows?

  • Bill Gorman

“Just out of curiosity, when can we expect the first announcements on renewed ABC-shows?”

First announcements, really hard to guess. But those first announcements will be no more interesting than Fox’s were yesterday.

The interesting information will not likely be known before late April/early May, and possibly not until just before the upfront in mid-May.

  • Leverage-Fan

    @Bill Gorman

Thank you very much for the information! :-)

“Still no changes for OUAT?.. But they should be! I was right about Secret Circle last year, but nobody believed me. And now same story again… :\”

If you think OUAT is in any danger, you should have retired from predicting after your Secret Circle prediction last season.

While Malibu Country is still on the bubble for renewal, I think a very odd anomaly will help its chances for renewal: on TV converter boxes, the show does not show up in the program guides. It shows LMS at 8, and then Shark Tank at 9. I thought at first it might be my old converter box, but my new box does the same. And since I don’t have a DVR I don’t know if the same problem is there, or even on all DVRs, but since Neilsen is now going to consider alterative media outlets in its ratings, this strange little issue could get the show renewed, and then heavily promoted during the summer.

  • Jonay

Why is ABC’s Sunday dramas failing all of the sudden?

  • t04

    @ Vortex4

    Castle is the best show

  • Max Vrany

@Meliwa, the guide data on your converter box comes from your local affiliate, not the network. It’s most likely isolated to your market. Call them and let them know.

  • Jonny C…. formerly Jon

Is there any hope at all for Happy Endings? Oh should we stick a fork in it and say it’s done?

  • scifi

I really wanna to see OUAT being renewed, because always funny if “hit show” hits extreme lows. And extreme lows will be next year for sure.
But maybe ABC will be smart enough to cancel it, avoiding being disgraced lol.

  • Brandy

I just want OUAT & Nashville renewed on abc

  • David

I can’t agree with The Neighbors having a higher rating than LMS. Swap timeslots and it would be no contest. At the least, they should have the same rating, whether 3 or 4.
