HOD has five episodes left this season so I really doubt any sort of ratings slide will happen. Maybe down to another .5 but lower would be a little shocking. It’s coming back. I’m almost positive considering its the highest rated non hit, self starter on the CW.

  • Bizarro

I’m so happy for HOD and B&TB. For a rerun B&TB did good, especially since it wasn’t on its usual night. This shows that the show is not dead yet and I hope it does good when it comes back later on in March. I know HOD is going to be renewed and I hope Beauty go’s up again and gets renewed too.

  • Charmed

HOD isn’t back until April, which is a pretty long hiatus. I hope it doesn’t affect ratings.

NCIS beats AI in 8pm hour. Huge.

“Can’t wait to see Idol in the 2?s against TBBT Thursday”

You might not have to wait that long. Quite frankly, I expected the figure to be closer to 3.8-4.2/11 or 12 share and 13.5 to 14.5 million total viewers, as it was throughout the last 3 weeks. But if it can fall this far, THIS fast, even a 2.x before the end of March would not shock me.

Regardless, very good for Idol to dig its way out of a single-digit share. Unfortunately, I don’t think they will be able to avoid a 9 or 8 share for much longer.

Sorry, the truth is that The Voice is “in” and American Idol “out” in terms of trending.

Both shows are trending down. It remains to be seen if Idol is falling fast enough for The Voice to actually beat it (for the season – obviously it beat it for several weeks already last season).

  • Dawg

@ Ultima, according to my calculations Idol is at a 4.5 if you count in the 3.5 of yesterday. What is remarkable about The Voice ratings is that they aired a few repeats and went up against Xfactor in its own timeslot and still averaged quite high.

Considering you’re a big fan of the show can I ask you if Idol ever had 2 hr results shows or is this a first?

  • DW

smash went up. i can already hear that 22 ep. season being ordered for next season right now. take THAT!!! walking dead. :)

  • Keith

YES!!! Body of Proof is slaying the competition. It is a beast! 8 seasons and a movie!

  • zth

@Ultima. I wouldn’t say The Voice is trending down. You do know that the fall season’s finale set a new record for a finale, right?

  • Dawg

@ Ultima, nonsense. The Voice season 3 was way more steady than season 2 which started out with a Big Bang, no Theory, because of the Super Bowl lead-in. Ratings went down by a lot when the blind auditions were over just like with season 1. Season 3 changed all that because they had a different format with the steals and everything.

May I cut in? They did, at least once, not counting finale shows. The results of the final 8 of 2005 (where Bo Bice was on the brink and Nadia Turner went home) is the only results show that I remember with a 2-hour broadcast.

American Idol has not been below 12 million viewers on a singing competition day since July 23, 2002, the sixth week that the show was on the air.
The 3.5/10 in the demo is an all time low.

Because of the expenses involved in producing the show, Fox is probably still above but close to the break-even point at 3.5. If it drifts any lower Fox will have to cancel the show.

This was unthinkable a year ago and a complete disaster for Fox.

  • Mickey

I’m rooting for Hart of Dixie. It was pretty much neglected in favour of Ringer in its first season, but it has solidly hung in there.

As for Golden Boy, looks like another premiere is getting deleted from my DVR sight unseen. Are more premieres tanking or am I just paying more attention?

“NCIS beats AI in 8pm hour. Huge.”

As far as overall viewership is concerned, it is a big deal, because Idol used to run that turf as well. Not anymore. Once more, NCIS viewership has gone UP in its 10 years on TV, while Idol has gone down. What used to be Idol’s domain will soon belong to NCIS, because if they can hold steady with their new episodes drawing at least 20 million, they will finish the season at number 1, their first number 1 ever.

Considering you’re a big fan of the show

I’m not a fan of the show. I’ve never watched it outside of the occasional auditions episode way back in the day because it’s fun to watch people make asses of themselves.

can I ask you if Idol ever had 2 hr results shows or is this a first?

Each of the past two seasons, the semifinals results show was two hours, although this week is only 90 minutes.

according to my calculations Idol is at a 4.5

It’s 4.6 if you weight by hour.

  • zth

@CookyMonzta: You’re right. Very nice for NCIS. But NCIS also beat AI in the demo ratings for the 8-9 PM hour.

  • NBC Fan

    @Ultima

    I thought The Voice Mondays averaged a 4.4 and Tuesdays a 4.3

Also, recent Idol episodes suggest that its average will fall below those numbers.

As for the upcoming season of the voice, I expect mid to high 3s

I wouldn’t say The Voice is trending down.

    Spring/Summer 2011 – 4.6

    Winter/Spring 2012 – 4.9 (4.6 without the Super Bowl episode)

    Fall 2013 – 4.2

How is that not trending down?

  • Mayans

I love Off Their Rockers. Happy that they’re getting a 3rd season.
