    @Marc
    Sooo… Her Oscar win was a fluke?

  • Andrew

    @Psychic

    Sort of yes. I think it was one of those roles that would have won an oscar no matter who was in the role. Granted she did well with the material but I think anyone could have done what she did.
    Also there was not much competition.

    @Kitsun. The Voice ITunes singles don’t actually count as the artists singles. The first 2 winners of The Voice are flops. They are randomly marketing their latest winner to county… But yeah, all The Voice have created are FLOPS. @Michael1. If your standards of success for a reality show winner are Kelly Clarkson & Carrie Underwood. Then you’ll never been satisfied. IDOL has created success besides Kelly & Carrie…. Season 3 Winner – Fantasia Barrino, she does very well on the R&B charts and is releasing her 4th major label album this year.// Season 5 finalist – Chris Daughtry, has sold over 8 million albums// Season 5 finalist- Kellie Pickler, has sold over 1 million albums in Country market & is going to be on Dancing With The Stars this year/// Season 6 Winner – Jordin Sparks, she’s had multiple Platnium singles and has sold over 3 million albums worldwide & co stared in the Whitney Houston movie last summer// Season 7 Winner – David Cook, has sold over 1 million albums// Season 8 Runner up – Adam Lambert, he’s a global superstar and still sells out concerts around the world , he’s sold over 1 million albums & had a #1 albums last year/// Season 10 Winner – Scotty McCreery, his debut album went Platnium and has won couple major awards and toured with Brad Paisly// Season 11 Winner – Phillp Phillips, his debut single has sold over 4 Million copies & his current single is racing up charts. His album is on its way on becoming Platnium….. So yeah, IDOL still creates stars. Compared to X FACTOR & The Voice, IDOL is king

    IT is really wierd to see Tuesday’s ratings. Those ratings don’t give any channels smile.

  • Derick

    Idol doesn’t normally air on Tuesdays. I’d suspect Wednesday will have higher numbers, but yes a 3.5 is low for Idol.

  • GARY

    Has AI produced any “Idols” other than Carrie Underwd and Kelly Clarkson?

  • GARY

    Carrie Underwood

    I had to check the url of this site a few times; I thought I was reading tvbyultima.com:)

    American Idle is arguably the phenomenon that legitimatized the then fledgling FOX network. A chapter of FOX history will come to a close when American Idol is canceled. Does anyone know if the original Idol in the UK is still on, near death or already canceled? What about the countless Idol clones worldwide? Are they doing well? What is the status of the original Voice in the Netherlands? And is the original Dancing With The Stars still dancing in the UK?

    I suppose one can argue that the UK is getting even with America for winning the Revolutionary War, rotting our minds with the Brit reality crap. What other mind numbing reality shows are the Brits planning to unleash on America? Please stop the insanity/inanity, Britain. We will give you our country back just to put an end to your stupid loosely scipted shows.

    I keep forgetting this isn’t about entertaining.

    Indeed! Fortunately, some of us are unfazed.

    I don’t know about the other talent competitions, but as far as Idol is concerned, among the most prominent nations with their own shows, Australian Idol ended after 7 seasons (2003-09), and Canadian Idol 6 seasons (2003-08). The others, more or less, are still going; France, Germany, India, Norway (its first champ, Kurt Nilsen, upset Kelly C. in the only World Idol competition in 2003), Brazil, and us.

    Pop Idol, in the U.K. (2001-03) was pretty much thrown under the bus after 2 competitions when Simon Cowell left to create X-Factor. Simon Fuller sued him and the X-Factor production team, and they settled out of court in late-2005, on the condition that Cowell remained on American Idol for another 5 years (2006-10).

    That is why he didn’t leave Idol until after the 9th season. That is probably why he is having trouble with X-Factor USA; because his obligation to Idol became a distraction that took up much of his time. If it were not for Idol, he might have brought XF to the U.S. much sooner. Pop Idol was never a top-10 show in the U.K. It took a while for X-Factor U.K. to find its way to the top 5.

    You got me there, bub! Too many TV networks here have been poisoned by reality TV, like MTV (Music Television), VH1 (Video Hits One), TLC (The Learning Channel), Bravo, Discovery and a host of others. Or did we do it to ourselves, with The Real World (1992), or the completely unscripted granddaddy of them all, COPS (1989)?

    The New Normal episode yesterday was the Halloween episode. It did not air on NBC last fall, and I am not sure if any affiliate aired it, but for some reason it was marked as a (R) Repeat everywhere. So it is quite good that it pulled 0.9 after Go On’s poor 1.1. When Go On was higher (thanks to The Voice), The New Normal was high too. First half of season one averaged 1.94 last fall. In spite of its recent decline due to a poor lead-in, it would be crazy not to renew it and trust this combination again…

    To me it’s not AI but The Simpsons that has defined the Fox network. That show spawned countless animated primetime shows including the long running Family Guy. They have devoted their entire Sunday lineup to all animation & there’s no signs of it slowing down. After nearly 25 yrs The Simpsons is almost as old as Fox itself & a chapter will truly close the day The Simpsons airs their last episode.

  • Bob

    Why are we comparing a 12 year show with a show on 2 or 3 years? It doesn’t make sense. The Voice will NEVER have 12 years. It will be LUCKY to have 6 years. It is a good show for NBC but if Idol had these ratings at 3 years, it would have been cancelled by now. There is no way that The Voice will EVER have the success that American Idol did. American Idol is STILL kicking butt compared to everything else on TV. NCIS, NCIS LA, and American Idol are the only true successes on TV this season.

  • Sherri

    Sorry I love Body of Proof and Dana Delaney, love the new detective too! Hope it keeps rising?

    @HalCapone
    American Idle is arguably the phenomenon that legitimatized the then fledgling FOX network.

    Huh? American Idol was certainly the show that launched FOX into the #1 spot, but they started primetime programming 15 years before Idol was around.

    The show that legitimized the fledgling FOX network was The Simpsons.

    While the network had other hits (AMW and Married… with Children) which were able to beat some of the big three programming head-to-head, it was the second season premiere of The Simpsons in October 1990 that changed everything.

    The Cosby Show had been the #1 show for five straight seasons and completely dominated its timeslot. When FOX decided to open up Thursday nights and put The Simpsons head-to-head with Cosby, everyone thought they were insane.

    And then The Simpsons won; its 33.6 million viewers didn’t just beat The Cosby Show, it was #1 for the week. That is when FOX became a legitimate network.

    Sure, they had a long way to go, but over the next decade they kept launching shows that were capable of winning their timeslots and they launched FOX Sports, which caused the largest affiliation switch in history during the mid-90s; but to call FOX a fledgling network in 2002 is just ridiculous.

    As American Idol does down hill so does Carrie Underwood ….Carrie Underwood had a concert review and I quote > The show hardly did business, roughly 8,000 fans turned out to a building that can hold (( twice )) that many. The lower section was full, but the upper deck was empty.

  • JP

    Attention all IDOL fans – *** WARNING *** – you are about to get crushed by TBBT tonight again… There is a new king in town… time to come to grips an deal with it.

    Maybe you can get back on top IF you get rid of Mariah and Nikki – waste of space IMO. Bring Simon back!!!! XFactor is garbage.

    OH – and POI rules!!!!!

  • BigBrotherFan

    NBC does not KNOW how sad they look keeping SMASH around. Honestly, no exuses, unacceptable even for NBC standards. They need to PULL SMASH asap and stream the rest online. I can’t honestly BELIEVE such respected industry pro’s like MESSING and HUSTON are apart of this MASSIVE FLOP JOKE. Maybe SHIP to BRAVO?

    The New Normal needs to go too. Idiots. Ryan Murphy should of got on his hands and knees and BEGGED MATT BOMER to join the cast. I’m sure things would of not been THAT BAD and I actually LIKED his character. The TWO main stars are annoying STEREOTYPES. AGH no so much BARTHA but yes, to an extent.

    Hart Of Dixie THE SHOW ABOUT NOTHING BUT I LOVE IT! Likely because not only is RACHEL SUMMER FROM OC on it but that Blonde babe from My Generation and SIN CITY Jaime King is on it too! They really should bring GOLDEN BROOKS back though, because her character made the show LESS OF THE SAME. Now it’s pretty much WADE and ZOE going through the same thing (he’s uneducated super mocho trailer trash and she’s a prada wearing citygirl smart and well off) in their relationship. They need to do MORE than that to create problems in their relationship (and him cheating was TOTALLY out of character).

    GOLDEN BOY will die on Fridays. Promise.

    Oh look ABC your STUPID REALITY TRASH THE TASTE IS FLOPPING and doing NO BETTER than HAPPY ENDINGS! HAHAHA! Even the FLOPY OF PROOF is beating it! ha

  • Marti Nunn

    Loved Body of Proof last year. Good characters, pretty well developed, good plot line. This, year, the main character is totally one dimensional. The faster pace is good, but BOP has turned into a soul-less gore-fest. Off my list. Obviously, onto others if the ratings are up.

  • Rebecca

    Chris Daughtry didn’t win AI his season but he came in second, right? He’s another one whom I think is doing well (with his band) – at least, I hear his songs on the radio (like Underwood and Clarkson).
