10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT TIME PERIOD

An Original "Golden Boy" Will Air This Friday as Previously Scheduled

"Vegas" Moves to Friday, 9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT, Effective April 5

GOLDEN BOY, CBS's new drama about the meteoric rise of an ambitious cop who becomes the youngest police commissioner in the history of New York City, will remain on Tuesdays (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), after two special previews in the time period.

CBS previously announced that GOLDEN BOY would move to Friday (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) after the preview broadcasts on Feb. 26 and March 3. An original episode of GOLDEN BOY will still air this first Friday (March 8) at 9:00 PM, ET/PT as planned.

CBS will give the freshman drama VEGAS a look in a new time period, moving it to Friday (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) beginning April 5, following the Network's coverage of the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament.

In its two Tuesday broadcasts, GOLDEN BOY is winning its time period in viewers and key demographics, averaging 9.98 million viewers, 2.6/07 in adults 25-54 and 1.7/05 in adults 18-49.

GOLDEN BOY stars Theo James, Chi McBride, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany and Stella Maeve. Greg Berlanti and Emmy Award winner Nicholas Wootton are executive producers for Warner Bros. Television.

VEGAS stars Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jason O'Mara, Taylor Handley and Sarah Jones. Greg Walker, Nicholas Pileggi, Cathy Konrad, Arthur Sarkissian and James Mangold are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

“It’s interesting because Fringe, a Friday night death slot legend, directly parodied that line in season four.”

Completely different situation. If you’re unable to see that, there’s certainly no convincing you.

    @ Tom

“As others have said, this sounds like CBS simply rearranging for marginal gains. The only chance either has is TPF (Total Pilot Failure).”

CBS still has Elementary getting renewed.

    @ Bill

Do you think next Season will be Blue Bloods’ final ?

Really no surprise, good move for CBS to see the “growth” potential for GB but the future still looks bleak

  • DryedMangoez

Should’ve been the case from the start, but seeing the numbers, it probably wouldn’t have mattered.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

    @samurai99, Elementary isn’t a pilot.

  • The Swami

Blue Bloods never did better than 1.4-1.6 18-49 range on Fridays, but CBS kept renewing it there because most shows don’t do better than that on Friday, and 1.4-1.6 18-49 year olds is better than nothing, especially if the show is inexpensive.

I was hoping Vegas would get moved to Friday since it seems to skew to the same demo (1.5ish 18-49 and 10+ mil squinty eyed unappealing advertising dollar viewers who will probably follow it to Friday).

Golden Boy didn’t even premiere with squat in 18-49 or totals by comparison to Vegas. it’s long past DOA on Tuesday or Friday, so moving it to Friday wasn’t gonna help Vegas.

at least now Vegas has a chance to prove it could hold those numbers Fridays where I think it would get renewed as a freshman and inexpensive (by comparison to what CBS has on Fridays now) drama.

now obviously the odds are STEEP against Vegas maintaining those ratings on this move. pretty much no show does it. but at least there’s now a minimal 5% chance in case that happens. Vegas sitting on Tuesdays was less than 0% to renew. so i’m happy it has a prayer now, even if it’s only a prayer. we’ll see…

    @ Bill.

It’s as much of a pilot as Vegas is. Unless I’m just completely missing the point of what he said.

Unless I’m just completely missing the point of what he said.

You are. What he means is that the only chance Vegas and Golden Boy have is if CBS absolutely hates all the shows they have going to pilot now for next season.

  • GARY

I hope GB gets renewed so the retread “TV cops” can continue to get paychecks.

Well, I’m not sure about Golden Boy and I really like Vegas better. I am a real fan of Chi McBride. I thought he and Mark Valley made a great team in Human Target. I don’t like this show nearly as well. Perhaps the powers that be shoud find a show to cast Jason O’mara, Chi McBride and Mark Valley in as the three leads, sort of like the male version of Charlie’s Angels. I would sure watch it. I love all three actors, they just haven’t found the right series for them yet.

    theo james is a hottie!

I have a question ! If Vegas is doing as good as CSI NY on Fridays (same global ratings and same 18-49 range), which one would be the more interesting for CBS to keep ? I mean, does the number or years make any difference ?

  • ToXiX

Everyone saying how low the show (GB) performs yet it does better than anything in its time slot by far, Body of Proof can barely crack a 1.0 and Smash is almost 0.5 region, its a welcomed change to Tuesday night and definitely better than the other 43 cop shows on CBS

  • Dan

I agree with ultima. This doesn’t mean that either show is safe it’s just easier to get Golden Boys episodes out of the way since there is still 11 left while Vegas only has 7. It makes more sense scheduling wise but I think CSI NY, Golden Boy, and Vegas are all dead as well as one of Mentalist or Good Wife depending on scheduling

  • Dan

@toxix – Golden Boy is doing well enough against other networks competition but not well enough for CBS standards. CBS knows it can do better with NCIS LA spinoff next season as well. So while Golden Boy looks like a success it’s not for CBS

  • UncleBobo

Love the move with no competition from cable, Vegas will be a great lead for Blue Bloods. Watched Golden Boy once just another fly by cop show. Didn’t do anything for me. But I love Vegas!

  • gerry

    @ hepha

the number in years typically means its more expensive because salaries have increased. but cbs isn’t keeping either of those shows short of some sort of grand friday night miracle for vegas. i don’t see it. they shipped it there to die.

  • sally

i still want CSI NY back,Gary Sinesse is my favorite, Golden Boy stinks And keep Vegas on Tuesday
