A friend called last night after Y&R aired awhile on SOAPNET. She snarkingly said what is that show that airs at 7? Laughing, I said Y&R, why? I don’t recognize it now……. You know, she’s right and something I hadn’t really thought about yet. It’s become the Avery & Dylan — Chelsea — Leslie, Tyler, & Wheeler show. The characters are OK but these basically new characters have practically taken over the show. I’m not sure that’s good. New characters should be woven into the canvas — not become the whole canvas. New viewers may be in love — old viewers are probably tuning out alot. I read once just about a year before SEARCH FOR TOMORROW was cancelled that Mary Stewart, who had been on the show since day 1, said in the last year they were on a new bunch of writers were writing a whole new show for us and they’re calling it SEARCH FOR TOMORROW. I couldn’t have said it better….

    I agree, Mike.

In general, on all “Soaps”, I think the women are better actors, than the men.

I tell you, who I really enjoy, as a “character”, is John Anniston on “Days”.

I think “Victor” is downright hilarious, when he’s mad, and gives it to those two DUNCES, Brady and Dan, along with others, over the years.

Like to see more of he and Maggie, they “play off” each other well.

  • PatF

Y and R is in no way close to being cancelled.

Days would be first, then GH or maybe vice versa if they keep telling vampire tales.

The CBS soaps are outperforming NBCs primetime lineup.

There are a lot of new characters on Y and R, but if you watch more than one scene, you’d know that.

Today it was Lauren, Michael, Abby, Victor, Nick, Phyllis, etc.

The writing is so much better than it’s been in over 6 years.

TimsDale4ever…speak for yourself and not all longtime viewers. I disagree about not being “recognized”…yes there are new characters which is nothing new to soaps, but we have major stories for most all the vets and the vets are shown everyday. I love my vets as much as anyone but if we had just vets and no new blood to drive story it would be boring. Fans being just to picky and have to knock everything from sets, who characters interact with, Josh’s writing, Jill’s producing…Josh is writing some great stories right now but he’s not a producer. This is where Jill comes in, because what we are enjoying watching is from Jill giving Josh’s story life and putting it on the screen. If you don’t have a good producer seeing the HW’s vision it won’t work for viewers…IE MAB!

If Maurice Bernard just mumbles and looks lost then what about Eric Braeden? I do watch YR sometimes if I get to gym early as it’s usually on (it comes on at 4pm where I live), and all he does is mumble and look confused. I am glad they show what people are saying on screen too, as I wouldn’t understand him. Having said that, Maurice is a decent actor, but not spectacular. I think the women get to play much more range generally. I think Anthony Geary, David Canary, and Robert S. Woods, and Peter Bergman are about the best in the business.

  • Mike

Jeff, Eric Braedan was one of the actors I had in mind when I said limited just didn’t mention them. He and Maurice are both decent and can deliver a good performance from time to time….but overall just weak. I think of Deidre Hall in that category too. Some times she can knock it out of the park, but other times she just gets lazy. I know it will not be a popular opinion but Susan Lucci can be that way too. Sometimes she can get so over the top that I just think she makes bad choices.

And I agree with you on those 4 actors.

  • Jeff

I would put Deidre and Susan in that same category, although Lucci had a really firm grip on her character, and I think she played her very consistently. Sarah Brown was also really overrated in my opinion. I think Laura Wright is a much better Carly, as was Tamara Braun. And, don’t even get me started on how overrated I think Heather Tom is.

  • TimsDale4ever

I continually love how you can post on this site “as long as you don’t insult someone else’s favorite show”. Grow up people — it’s just an opinion. I’m neither right nor wrong. It’s just how I perceive how the show could be improved upon. I sincerely hope the show makes it another 40 years….. I can’t wait for our Miss Cooper to have her 2 minute monologue about the 40th anniversary. She could actually talk the entire hour and I would just eat it up!

@Jeff the reason Richard (who now posts as Mike) didn’t mention Eric Braeden is becasue he is on Young and the Restless. Richard(now posting as Mike0 only hates on GH. We know it is you Richard the posting styles and referencing other sites and boards without actually naming them is the same style. But keep up the hating yet Ron/Frank the cast and crew and everyone at GH has turned the show around. I remember you saying it probably wouldn’t make it to the 50th that it would go off in September. Then you said it wouldnt get past the 50th. Well it is going strong and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, despite all the haters who think so. The key demos and even total viewers are stil up huge as compared to previous years but Richard(now posting as Mike) only will post the negative on GH.

  • Mike

Jeff, I agree with you again. I think Laura Wright is the better Carly. I have loved Laura Wright since her days as Allison on Loving. I did like Sarah Brown but prefer Wright.

Just saw that CBS had another pretty good week in daytime. Glad to see them finally doing more to promote their daytime lineup even with their spin in releases sometimes. I love the CBS daytime lineup and glad to see it prosper.

  • David

It is funny in a post on the thread about General Hospital’s 50th Richard (now posting as Mike_ claims he stopped watching after Gloria Monty in the 80s but now he says Laura Wright is the better Carly. So once again Mike is lying (just like Richard who we know is Mike)

  • Mike

I challenge anyone to go over to the thread mentioned above and tell me where it says I quit watching during the 80s when Gloria Monty was there. Gloria Monty’s name is not even on the page at all or mentioned by anyone. And nowhere does it even say when I quit watching GH. I find his obsession with me and what I am supposed to always say and do so funny but even worse just pathetic.

@TimsDale…..I agree about folks having an opinion. It is just a TV show and not everyone is going to like the same things. I don’t always agree with what you say, but I think you have just as much right to say it as anyone else does. None of us are ever going to see the same things in a performance or a show. And I think the producers need to hear it all…the good and the bad. It’s the only way they will ever know what is working and what is not working.

  • David

The said thread Richard(now posting as Mike) you said you stopped watching after Gloria and never heard anything good since.

The fact that you are using a different name when the regular posters all know it is you Richard is just sad. As sad as your hate for GH, and everytime you throw hate at GH i will be right here to stop that hate.

Oh yes, Braeden is another mumbler but, then again, he has that heavy accent to overcome. Like Benard always says “ya know” old Victor usually ends a sentence with “okay?” “You got it?” Or “alright?”
