via press note:
Based on the first 3 days of TV playback (Live + 3 Day Ratings), ABC’s Sunday debut of Red Widow (on 3/3/13 from 9-11pm) grew over its Live +Same Day numbers by 1.7 million viewers (7.135 million to 8.850 million) and by 27% in Adults 18-49 (1.5 rating to a 1.9 rating). As a result in its time period, ABC’s Red Widow caught NBC’s 2-hour season premiere of Celebrity Apprentice in Adults 18-49 (1.9 rating each) and widened its Total Viewer lead over the NBC unscripted series to 3.1 million (8.850 million vs. 5.739 million), up from 2.0 million in the next-day numbers. In the preliminary L+SD ratings, Celebrity Apprentice held a 2-tenths advantage over Red Widow in Adults 18-49.

I love ABC press releases. 27% is a “surge”, apparently.
ABC… Please just admit that Red Widow is a loser and will not be in your schedule next year…
The writing for these press releases is much better than the writing for many of their shows!
@eridapo
Agreed! This show needs to get cancelled!
Don’t all shows “surge” on L+3? lol
And when Red Widow is canceled in 2 months, fans of the show will throw this press release back in ABC’s face.
This did what 666 Park Ave did on a regular episode.
ABC WAKE UP! No matter how you chalk it up-IT’S A DUD!
Red Widow is lucky enough to only have 8 episodes, 2 of which have aired already, the remaining 6 will burn through quickly and the show will be forgotten about.
+0.4 is a “surge”? C’mon…
omg ABC, that’s not even a 2.0 rating. Calm yourselves.
Haha, the ABC press releases are best! It is more thrilling than most of its shows
Does this mean it will only be slightly cancelled?
A 1.9 for a heavily promoted brand new drama is dreadful.
Tried watching the first ep, but fell asleep 30 min before it ended. I have no desire to watch anymore. Just too depressing and boring.
I feel terrible that 666 PARK AVE couldn’t make it. Now thats a show that never bored me. I hope ABC will air the 4 remaining eps soon.
@MichaelChickless
It’s looking like there will not be a 2nd season. Bad news for the fans.
Anonymous, my ‘slightly cancelled’ comment was meant to be akin to being slightly pregnant.
Gotta love @PurpleDrazi
“The writing for these press releases is much better than the writing for many of their shows!”
Still, why all the other invective over a little puffery in a press release when TV itself isn’t real?
“As a result of this surge, ABC will be announcing the cancellation of Red Widow three days later than we would otherwise, so that the show’s legion of DVR followers won’t miss out on the news.”
OK ABC I believe you
This press release reads like a North Korean news report.
I bet that the staff is required to do press releases.
