Update: Joy Behar will discuss her departure on Monday March 11.

Her First Television Appearance Since Making the Announcement

Joy Behar discusses her decision to exit ABC’s “The View” (11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, ET) with her pals Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd live MONDAY, MARCH 11. As an original cast member, Ms. Behar has been instrumental in the success of “The View” since its creation in 1997 and will continue to appear for the remainder of the season.

“You can’t stay forever on a show,” Ms. Behar told “Good Morning America” exclusively. “I am graciously exiting stage left. I’ve put in 16 years and felt the time was right. I want to explore other opportunities.”

The View may lose two of its co-hosts.  Joy Behar has announced that she will be leaving the ABC talk show at the end of the season. She has been with the show since its debut sixteen and a half years ago. Us reports that ABC has opted to let Elizabeth Hassleback go because she tested poorly in ABC's market research. A representative for the show neither confirmed nor denied the rumor making the ambiguous statement, "Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a valued member of The View and has a long term contract."

  • Stephen

Elisabeth has been there for 10 years – it took them THIS LONG to do market research into how many people dislike her politics?

  • Michelle

Hasselbeck leaves, and I will watch The View, again!

  • David

So the libtards are not tolerant that there is one conservative voice vs. four raving lunatics?

  • RJ

Elisabeth connects with middle America. The rest are just raging liberals.

  • Michael

Elizabeth Hasselbeck had the right to express her political views, just like any other American.

  • s0303

so what…they just want everyone with the same opinion on politics, i guess…boring….

  • rob60990

With Barbara potentially retiring, all they need to do is show Sherri the door as well.

  • Corey

If they are giving her the boot for being too conservative like the rumors say then that’s just ridiculous. I mean I don’t agree with her, but isn’t the show called The View for a reason?

  • Patrick W.

Elizabeth was the only thing that made that left wing liberal hatefest worth watching. I prefer “The Five” on Foxnews at 5 pm anyway.

  • Nabs

Lovelovelove Elizabeth. Don’t know how she has tolerated the others for so many years. They are entitled to their views, it is their presentation of them that is horrendous. Nasty and obnoxious.

  • Samuel

Thank GOD she is gone! I’m sick of her misquoting the Bible and flaunting her arrogant religious beliefs around like the crap that comes out of her mouth is actually somewhat true.

Only in America could they let someone like HER on a daytime talk show throwing her ‘religious’ beliefs around like that. There’s nothing religious about her. She’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

  • smg77

Nobody cares what Elizabeth’s political views are. It’s the fact that she just parrots Fox News talking points without understanding them that’s the problem. Like most conservatives she can’t explain herself well enough to not sound like an idiot when discussing politics.

  • David

    Actually, libtards do care.

They can’t stand anything intruding in their echo-chamber of Moonbat viewpoints that they demand to censor any dissenting thought. George Orwell was correct.

  • Vcoolwater

Elizabeth did a poor job representing the conservatives. She would constantly embarrasses herself and make stupid comments. In fact she made conservatives look like idiots.

I hope they find a good replacement who can express her conservative view points intelligently and succinctly

  • smg77

@David Thanks for perfectly illustrating my point.

I was just talking on another thread about how cable news could stand to use their own version of PTI. I wonder if CNN is going after Behar and Hasselbeck for something similar, hoping to rope in the View audience; Behar already hosted a show on HLN once before. Of course, considering these comments that consider Hasselbeck a lightweight even by conservative standards… makes me wonder if she has a future at all outside Fox and Friends.

  • David

Sorry, smg77, like most libtards you sound like an idiot when explaining your extreme politics.

Like when Whoopi and Behar left the stage when Bill O’Reilly said that the 9/11 hijackers were Muslims. I mean, WTF?

  • snoot

Imagine that, another conservative getting the cold shoulder in Hollywood. The loony left is at it again.

  • Shepherd

I doubt it has anything to do with politics. I’m pretty confident that they would replace EH with another conservative. EH was just extremely unlikeable.

  • E

Oh I long for the days when Rosie was on and would have those awesome cat fights with Elisabeth. That was The View at its best!
