Los Angeles, CA – March 11, 2013 – FOX Deportes, the undisputed leader in U.S. Latino sports media, continues to dominate the landscape by scoring big viewership numbers in February. FOX Deportes finished the month as the No. 1 U.S. Spanish Sports Cable Network across all major dayparts in total viewers and adults 18-49 (total day, prime time and weekend day) versus all Spanish sports cable networks, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Launched in 2012, the Network’s franchise news and soccer talk shows, “Central Fox” and “La Última Palabra,” drove FOX Deportes’ dominance. “Central Fox” was the No. 1 sports news program for February versus all Spanish sports cable networks and grew the network’s news viewership by +83% in total viewers and +114% in adults 18-49 compared to February 2012. In addition, the No. 1 soccer talk show “La Última Palabra” grew the Network’s soccer talk viewership by +69% in February in total viewers and +78% in adults 18-49 compared to February 2012.
“With the addition of NASCAR and coverage of the UEFA Champions League in February, the network continues to provide the most expansive and diverse portfolio of major sports events on Spanish TV,” said Vincent Cordero, Executive Vice President and General Manager, FOX Deportes. “Our news and soccer talk shows build excitement and anticipation and are unmatched in providing U.S. Latinos with the most relevant and engaging sports news. After a full year of informative and dynamic coverage, our shows have become the premium destination for viewers.”
The highly anticipated UEFA Champions League match between Real Madrid and Manchester United on February 13 attracted 696,000 total viewers, and was the most-watched sports telecast for all ad supported cable networks. FOX Deportes’ average audience of 112,000 adults 18-49 in total day is also the best performance for the network in the day-part since the 2011 UEFA Champions League Final featuring Barcelona and Manchester United (191,000).
The newly minted partnership with NASCAR closed the month in high-gear with the inaugural Daytona 500, which reached 143,000 total viewers and 89,000 in adults 18-49. Since the launch, NASCAR races have reached 242,000 total viewers and over 150,000 adults 18-49.
FOX Deportes also provides its fans with a premium social media experience. In February, its Facebook page received over 140,000 new “Likes” and now totals over 1.3 million. The network has nearly 1 million more Facebook “Likes” than its nearest competitor in U.S. Spanish cable sports.
