The cancellation bear is going to miss catching Last Man Standing this season. With ratings on Friday averaging > 70% of ABC's overall spring average, it's time to move Last Man Standing to "likely to be renewed" status. There's not a lot of experience with drama renewals on Fridays, but that relative ratings level is well above what other networks have renewed Friday shows before. As for Malibu Country, I think its situation is still uncertain.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, the "old" Fall predictions will carry over.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @The Other Tony
I like your schedule. Don’t see any major problems with it. Two new comedies and two new dramas in the fall. A sucessful show in the 8:00 Thursday death slot. Not many changes in timeslots/days for returning shows, other than Wednesday shows, which is good.

    MALIBU ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Regarding your proposed schedule:

The Taste is too weak for a Sunday slot . I don’t even think its strong enough for Friday! Too many other higher rated contests on the air today.
The highly anticipated SHIELD is not listed.?!
But you are suggesting the not much talked about lately , OUAT spinoff?
Lucky to be renewed Neighbors shouldn’t be on Wednesday any longer. Better Friday if you insist on another comedy block.
Suburgatory doesn’t belong on Friday. But I would save it for midseason and try 2 new sitcoms on Wednesday following Middke and Modern respectively .
I still prefer Fridays all unscripted. Much cheaper than expensive sitcoms on such a weak night.

Thank you! ABC really needs to drop its “strategy” of putting serious dramas or actioners in the Thursday 8pm death slot. After the successive failures of Flashforward, The Deep End, My Generation, Charlie’s Angels, Missing, Last Resort, and Zero Hour — they should have learned their lesson, by now.

YEAH! for Last Man Standing!! Such a good show and underrated. I still say it should be moved to a different night.

Tim Allen and Nancy Travis have great chemistry!!

  • wade

Last man standing has won the last 5 of 7 weeks in its timeslot. it was just a matter of time before it was upgraded. if it was back on tuesdays again it would hold up fine. ABC puts it on friday because i dont think they like tim allen very much. I think they expected it to fail against Undercover Boss. turns out Kitchen Nightmares is the one that lost its viewers during that timeslot.

  • Bee

OMG. there’s ANOTHER 4 week break coming for revenge? i just.. all i can do is laugh. this is why everyone loves cable. besides the quality, when a show is on, it is ON. no 49584 week breaks 4 times a season. if the next 2 revenge episodes are not knock-outs, that humongous break is going to be death. no faster way to kill a show than to mix lackluster episodes with big breaks/competition.

i’m so glad nashville is gonna have 8 episodes to air when it returns.

  • Bunny

Love Revenge but it is one of those that you have to watch every week to keep up with it.It has a great plot. Red Widow was good in the first one then it took a tumble. I think we are getting to many of the cop shows. After all how many can be based in NY city.
