What is happening with The Goodwin Games? In a scheduling announcement a few weeks ago, its premiere was announced for May 20. May 20? Fox is not going to start airing a show on May 20 that it has any intention of considering for renewal. Not only is that after the Fox upfront presentation, but Fox has been running repeats at 8:30 Tuesdays already when it could have aired The Goodwin Games.
Does that make it "pre-canceled", "canceled before airing", "instant bear chow". Amuse the Cancellation Bear with your own designations in the comments.
Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.
From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old" Fall predictions in the table.
Notes:
-
- certain to be cancelled by May, 2013 -
- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013 -
- toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013 -
- more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013 -
- certain to be renewed by May, 2013
The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Maybe Fox (and by it’s looks the other networks) are trying to do a summer schedule with original episodes and The Goodwin Games are their try-out show. If it works – good for them, if it doesn’t – they didn’t really care about the show anyway.
Goodwin games was one of the shows I was most looking forward to after upfronts. FOX did it again. At this point I am hoping the show isnt good and thats why they pushed it back. Because if this is like what NBC did with Bent it will break my heart
@Raykov, The Goodwin Games scheduling isn’t a “let’s go scripted in the summer” play, it’s a dead show burn off. Not clear what went wrong with the show, we’ll likely never know.
DOA (COA)
I prefer to call it a “Special One Time Event”! Like the Olympics or the Super Bowl, start selling those expensive commercials now!
Goodwin Games? More like The Cancellation Bear Olympics!
But yeah, I too was looking forward to watching it. I’ll still watch it, but I’m fully aware that by mid-July it’ll probably be a forgotten memory.
The Goodwin Games = original scripted summer fare, perhaps? As in, a deliberate attempt to see how well/poorly such programming would go?
“The Goodwin Games = original scripted summer fare, perhaps? As in, a deliberate attempt to see how well/poorly such programming would go?”
Like The Good Guys?
Nah, see my comment above.
Fox’s Renew/Cancel index is so borning now. On the plus side, it has the best Bear pic. I wanna scream at the guy “Turn Around!”
CRE: Cancellation, Ready-to-Eat
“CRE: Cancellation, Ready-to-Eat”
Comment thread win.
The GOodwin Games was the most promising new comedy oddly.
Can’t beat CRE, so I won’t even try.
So there is my comment!
Bill, so what do you say about ABC’s “Mistresses”? Is it in the same situation?
It really is an odd story. Really jsut the oddest.
FOX doesnt want to be seen as the six episode and done network. Thats why they aired all of The Mob Doctor to let it end properly enough as it knew it was not getting renewed and wanted all thirteen to go ahaead and air. They should not ahve cnacelled the following shows: The Chiccago Code. Ever. It needed renewed. It should be on season three. If only FOX knew then what they know now.
Also, The FOllowing is big. They still need another Drama to be big though. One more. Just one . Next season the gamble is on you. It better be a big show. They will maybe show it after the Supwerbowl. A bit huge premiere after the sper bowl seems in order.
Love that pic – polar bear photo bomb! All my Fox shows are safe.
Nothing to see here. Move along.
The Goodwin Games is a #DIV/0! show walking.
“Bill, so what do you say about ABC’s “Mistresses”? Is it in the same situation?”
Not comparable as far as I can tell. Mistresses was initially discussed as a late May, 2013 premiere after The Bachelor during the ABC upfront in May, 2012, so it wasn’t like the show was ordered for the season, then problems happened, and it got shoved to off season. That was the original stated intent.
Possible Fall 2013 Fox Schedule could be…

Bones
Glee
Tue:
The Wild Blue
Boomerang

The X-Factor
Thur:
The X-Factor
New Girl
Friends and Family
