What is happening with The Goodwin Games? In a scheduling announcement a few weeks ago, its premiere was announced for May 20. May 20? Fox is not going to start airing a show on May 20 that it has any intention of considering for renewal. Not only is that after the Fox upfront presentation, but Fox has been running repeats at 8:30 Tuesdays already when it could have aired The Goodwin Games.
Does that make it "pre-canceled", "canceled before airing", "instant bear chow". Amuse the Cancellation Bear with your own designations in the comments.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.
From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old" Fall predictions in the table.
Notes:
-
- certain to be cancelled by May, 2013 -
- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013 -
- toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013 -
- more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013 -
- certain to be renewed by May, 2013
The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

FOX should consider doing this. Send THE X FACTOR to summer and premiere dramas like SLEPPY HOLLOW during the summer and comedies like FRIENDS AND FAMILY and the new FLISNTONES in mid-season. THE FOLLOWING would premiere in January and COSMOS: A SPACE TIME-ODISSEY should air during Fridays.
Oh, and Sunday nights starting January should be:

7:30pm – BOB’S BURGUERS
8pm – THE SIMPSONS
8:30pm – MURDER POLICE
9pm – FAMILY GUY
9:30pm – AMERICAN DAD!
@Nick
I like that schedule. I don’t know about holding The Mindy Project for Midseason. I think you can air it after New Girl like this year and instead air Two Wrongs on Wednesdays at 9:30 for 8 weeks after 90 minute X Factor. If Two Wrongs if successful, it could air in the same time slot, but after Idol in the winter for another 8 weeks. At this point, it might be better to move Glee to Fridays all season, and just put Kitchen Nightmares at 9 after X Factor in the fall, but that’s just my personal opinion. I think Glee is running out of steam, and it shouldn’t get the post X Factor slot.
Poor Becki Newton, second show that she was part of post Ugly Betty that got into such a big mess
I just think it’s stupid to air a show that they have absolutely no intention of renewing. Who’s to say it wouldn’t have put up respectable numbers. From what I saw in the trailers, it looked better than both Ben & Kate and the Mindy Project. Fox should have just let the audience decide the Goodwin Games fate, but whatever. No wonder their track record with new shows the last several years has been pathetic.
Could they be saving it for next season? Or that’s just unrealistic?
CBS’s friend me and nbc’s save me both have not even gotten air dates. Very unusual

7:30 The OT/Bob’s Burgers
8-The Simpsons
8:30-American Dad!
9-Family Guy
9:30-Bob’s Burgers/Murder Police (NEW)
Monday (The Following takes a 3 month hiatus to make room for a new drama. Plus if only 15 eps. can be ordered for The Following, the scheduling will work out perfectly
8-Bones
9-The Following (September to December)/NEW DRAMA (January to March)/The Following (March to May)
Tuesday
8-Raising Hope
8:30-The Mindy Project
9-New Girl
9:30-NEW COMEDY
Wednesday
8-The X Factor/American Idol
Thursday
8-The X Factor/American Idol
9-NEW COMEDY (fall) /NEW DRAMA (winter/spring)
9:30-NEW COMEDY (fall)/continuation of NEW DRAMA (winter/spring)
Friday
8-Kitchen Nightmares
9-Another Unscripted show
@HAPPY!
I don’ think The Mindy Project is strong enough to stay in the fall schedule. As for 2 Wrongs, the post X-Factor slot is too chaotic for a new show. The craziness of a singing competition schedule + baseball preemptions would be really bad for a new show. And TXF’s lead-in should be about the same as New Girl next year anyway.
I had that exact schedule up until last week, but a ton of people hated it, so this is the compromise.
@HAPPY!
As for your schedule, it’s solid too.
I really like the idea of leaving the new drama until midseason, where it can gain viewers without The Voice around. Also, you can rest assured: 15 episodes were definitely ordered for The Following.
Fox has no unscripted series in development. I’d put Glee at 8 and KN at 9. Speaking of Glee, WHERE IS IT?
@Nick
Oops, totally forgot about Glee
Here’s what I would do for Friday
8-Kitchen Nightmares
9-Glee
@Nick
“I had the exact schedule last week but a ton of people hated it, so this is the compromise.”
It is too bad people hated the idea of Glee on Friday. I think it would actually be beneficial for Fox to put it on Friday to attract new viewers to the night. Although a shrinking fan base, Glee has loyal fans who will follow it to Friday.
There can be a lot of things go wrong with a show that would cause a network to do something like this.
As for why they kept shooting it almost has to be for contractual reasons.
Doesn’t look too good
@HAPPY!
Sending Glee to a Friday at 9pm would totally kill the show
@Jackson
Could they be saving it for next season?
The Goodwin Games? No. FOX stopped production months ago and everyone has been released.
I just think it’s stupid to air a show that they have absolutely no intention of renewing.
So you think that NBC should have pulled half their schedule off the air in February and aired what, exactly?
Networks have to fill time and many times that involves airing shows the know will not be returning the following year.
Sorry, that second quote/response was from/for KJ Styles.
@Tested
As for why they kept shooting it almost has to be for contractual reasons.
They didn’t keep shooting… They saw several episodes after the pilot, obviously didn’t like where the show was headed, and stopped production.
