via press release:

TV LAND WELCOMES “THE GOLDEN GIRLS” STARTING MARCH 16
New York, NY – March 14, 2013 – TV Land will debut the Emmy® Award-winning comedy “The Golden Girls” on Saturday, March 16, it was announced today. Marathons will launch on Saturday and Sunday, March 16 and 17, from 3-11pm, followed by a week-long primetime tribute to each of the characters. Then, fans take over the air! Viewers can go online now* and choose their favorite episodes on TV Land’s Facebook Page, then watch the results on Friday, March 22 from 7-10pm. After launch week, the show will settle into its regular timeslot of 7pm, Monday through Saturday, and 5pm on Sundays. Fans of “The Golden Girls” can keep up with the series on Facebook and TV Land’s Tumblr, which will be posting fun activities like tips for throwing the best viewing party and character “sass-offs” all week long and beyond!

The show revolves around Dorothy (Bea Arthur), Rose (Betty White), Blanche (Rue McClanahan) and Sophia (Estelle Getty), four single women “of a certain age” who live together in Miami, years after being widowed or divorced. Rose’s endearing innocence, Dorothy’s sharp wit and cynicism, Blanche’s man-eating ways and Sophia’s no-holds-barred approach to life make “The Golden Girls” ready for laughs.  Though they don’t always get along, these women remain loyal “pals and confidants” through every life-changing moment.

“That ‘classic’ sitcom style mixed with daring comedy is what makes ‘The Golden Girls’ so timeless,” TV Land President Larry W. Jones remarked. “We’re thrilled to have the show join the TV Land family, where ‘timeless’ reigns supreme.” Added Jaclyn Cohen, Executive Vice President, Program Strategy and Acquisitions, TV Land, “‘The Golden Girls’ has been a beloved hit for nearly 30 years and the fans still love those ladies. TV Land is the perfect home for them.”

“The Golden Girls” ran in primetime for seven seasons from 1985 to 1992 on NBC and garnered over 30 awards in that time, including 11 Emmy® Awards and four Golden Globe® Awards. Each of the program’s four stars won an Emmy for outstanding performance in the series.

The premiere of “The Golden Girls” on TV Land will mark the second show on the network to star Betty White, who can currently be seen on TV Land’s hit original sitcom, “Hot In Cleveland,” with co-stars Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick.  The show, now in its fourth season, is all-new beginning on Wednesday, June 19 at 10pm ET/PT, kicking off with a LIVE episode.
*Voting closes at 11:59pm ET on Wednesday, March 20.

  • JR35

Yah, I have all seven seasons, yet still watch it on TV from time to time.

  • THE OLD MAN

Amazing how this show dominated the ratings from 1985 on (for a Saturday night yet) & great to see it’s still rockin’ 28 years later!

    COOL!

  • JJA

The Golden Girls was truly one of the best American sitcoms in TV history. They don’t make them like that anymore.

  • FatSacOfBlobbyMass

    “Enough wicker!”

  • American

Finally! I love the Golden Girls!

  • Max

Watching, or just having The Golden Girls on, is like going home.

  • Jeff

One of the most brilliant shows ever and for a Saturday night as it originally aired. Bea Arthur and team were truly classic and so brilliant. I also own the entire series but I will watch it faithfully on TVLand. I just hope they air it late night also so I have it to watch during my insomnia.

  • Jonathan

Love the wicker comment!! The Golden Girls is the best show ever! I have a lot of issues with anxiety and depression, and watching the show every night before bed really calms me down.

  • Bob

It is a great show…best in history??? I won’t go that far but it is a good show for sure.

  • Rich

I don’t mean to be negative but it all depends how much they cut out for commercials. On The Hallmark Channel, they cut entire scenes. On a positive note, I am more likely to find it on TV Land since I see what is on that channel while forgetting to look at THC.

I’m 18 and Iove this show. It’s so funny and the cast are great.

I love this show and have been watching it since the re-run cycles started on Lifetime in 1997. Since then I have seen various sydnication edits between Lifetime, WE TV, and Hallmark. As one commentor stated I sure hope that the minimalize the scene cuts on TV Land. One of my FAVORITE moments is from season one in the episode where “Rose” date the midget, “Jonathan” and Blanche suffers the mistake of taking the entire dinner engagement as a “trick” that Rose is playing on her and Dorothy(Being that Jonathan is a midget and Rose claims to be dating him). While most would argue that the best line is when Blanch offers him( Jonathan) “Shrimp” then storms off to the kitchen in embarassment, I insist that the funniest moment immediately follows when “Dorothy” chimes in…

Dorothy: Why don’t we get started with dinner?
Jonathan: Great, what are we having?
Dorothy: (PAUSE)…..Short Rib. ( In true Bea fashion)

    CLASSIC TELEVISION FOLKS!!!!

  • Susan

I do not like the golden girls, enough already! How about something like Designing Women? or something with at least some intelligence. thank you

  • Yippee

Yeah!!! Always love me some Go-die Ho-dies. :)

  • Noel

I used to enjoy the dinner hour with M*A*S*H and The Cosby Show.

Now it’s nothing but GOLDEN GIRLS – GOLDEN GIRLS- GOLDEN GIRLS; a bunch of smutty old ladies.

Enough Already! Get back some entertainment I can watch with my grandkids duirng our dinner hour.
