I haven’t seen any news on expanding B&B (it is not mentioned on its Wikipedia page nor does any information come from a Google search), but CBS doesn’t have any room to spare in daytime. If B&B is expanded, one of its other series will have to be shortened to make room for it. The only other option would be to ask affiliates (local stations) to give up 30 minutes, which is going to be a hard sell, as the current trend is to give time back to affiliates (like ABC did last year with the 3:00 p.m. hour), not to take it back.

  • GoodTV

If you ask me they should shorten all shows to 30min. Better quality would be the result. Like B/B. I think Y/R would be a lot fresher in a 30 min format.

    @ Melanie and Mike.
Good point about GH “bringing” Laura and Scotty back. I think it’s a ratings ruse and not much more. In the last month, they’ve been in (if I’m not mistaken) 4 or 5 episodes. Ditto for Frisco. On the flip side, how many times have we seen Sabrina in the last month?
Also, I really like Heather (my all-time favorite character) and to make her unredeemable is not something I’m interested in. In the old days, Heather laced Diana Taylor’s iced tea with LSD, made threatening phone calls and came up with huge lies. Those kinds of machinations were about as devilish as she got but it was riveting to watch. The character is totally different now.
As for Scorpio, and luckily unlike Anna, I think he was brought back for a quick ratings spike. So no one in Port Charles is interested that he’s been in a coma with Holly at his side since December? Why hang that character up (along with Patrick) for so long just to have Robin waste away in a European hospital. For God’s sake, kill off Robin once in for all if Kimberly McCullough isn’t willing to commit to the show!!!!!!

I will have to admit, while still infinitely better than it was before FV/RC rescued the show from cancellation, GH has stalled on the momentum front. It feels like it’s gearing up for something big, but how many episodes can be devoted to relish recipes, Kate/Connie flipping back and forth, and a student nurse no one gives a crap about when fans want to see more Anna, more Mac/Felicia/Frisco, more Luke/Laura/Scotty, more Tracy and Monica scenes, more Lucy and Kevin. We want payoffs on at least a few storylines.

  • David

GH has not lost 300,000 viewers from a few months ago as a couple people have just stated. That would be incorrect and all you have to do is go back and compare the numbers to see that.

For all the people complaining about Robyn not being on. The actress who plays her Kimberly Mcculloough chose to leave the show. She has agreed to come back and do episodes here and there when her schedule allows. But she chose to leave the show before Frank and Ron came on. There is only so much focus they can give on her. That is the actresses fault however. At one point there was talk of recasting Robyn but you can imagine people would be upset over that.

Laura and Scotty have only been in a handful of episodes so far same goes with Frisco.

I know as they lead into the 50th anniversary they will most likely be on more.

I think they have stalled things with some of the past characters to feature them more during the 50th anniversary.

So much coming up with returns of Rick Weber, Alan Quartermaine, Audrey Hardy, Bobbie Spencer, Brenda Barrett, Jasper Jaxx, and many others.

GH is just plain stupid now. The whole recipe plotline is absurd. This show is losing it’s way again.

  • diana

I noticed GH had a 2.2 rating on Wednesday, the day Frisco&Felicia had some WONDERFUL scenes complete with tear-jerking flashbacks. Anna&Duke, Mac, Kevin&Lucy were also on that day. We want to see the VETS!!! Someone commented “why isn’t GH getting better ratings with the returns of Jack Wagner and Genie Francis?” It’s because they are hardly ever ON! It’s “bait and switch”. They get us to tune in for the great vet returns, and then we get a stupid vampire story. Or a stupid DID story. And NO VETS!! I have not yet recommended GH to my friends, even with returns that I KNOW they would love. You know why? They would take one look at the stupidity and turn it off. OR they would watch for a week with nary a sighting of Jack OR Genie. Carlivatti promises “Genie Francis will be on EVERY DAY next week.” Let’s see what the ratings will be like THEN!

Totally love Gh.Its better then it has been in years. Can’t wait it for to come on now.Hope all the soaps keep rising.

  • Matthew

Ok. So you people know. Frisco is hardly on because Jack Wagner only agreed to 10 episodes. The only reason he came back was to honor the show and I doubt he will ever come back because if I am right, he could care less about the show. Tptb only have so much to work with and Jack only agreed to 10 episodes. I believe maybe 6 of those have aired. It’s rumored that he may come back again down the road but I doubt he will.

  • World War 3

GH has lost momentum but that’s to be expected it was hitting some real high cylinders during that stretch but its still a way better soap than it was a year ago and I have no idea why people are forgetting about that so quickly. I guess people just want to see a negative in something.

As for the other soaps I’ve enjoyed B&B and Y&R lately both shows are hitting their strides and DAYS is the best of the bunch although there’s some characters that need to get axed off of there and I won’t say who it is because its some old veterans I’m talking about not the young kids.

  • James

I’ve been watching GH since late 2009. Been watching Y&R since Steve Burton debuted as Dylan on it. Y&R just keeps growing on me. Love both soaps now. Not gonna lie, while I am not a big fan of JFP when she ran GH, I thought she did a good job on Hollywood Heights and is doing a better job on Y&R.

B&B is on fire. CBS should consider a 30 minute soap, not making B&B 1 hour.

  • Joshua Landers

Y&R is the best of the best right now. It’s always been leagues above the rest but after the last writer, it went way down. But now its back to being the cream of the crop. It deserves to be number 1 and I’m glad to see it rising in the ratings again.

GH is crap. They brought back vets for a ratings surge, along with the 50th. And that’s all they’ve done is brought back vets. None of the vets are in good story. They are rarely used, and the rest of the show is absolute crap.

DAYS is in a really good place creatively right now. They also deserve the ratings gain. Kristen has infused some much needed life into that show, and aside from a couple of stories and characters I’m not interested in, DAYS is must-see-tv again.

And then theres B&B. I hated the Steffy/Liam/Hope triangle because it was overexposed, but it is insanely popular. Now that it’s kind of on the backburner now, I’m loving the show. Rick and Maya are adorable, Brooke vs. Taylor is fresh again, Taylor and eric are disturbing but in a good way. The show is on fire. And I hope it stays half an hour.

  • jackieO

B&B bores me to tears. I’d rather watch GH or Y&R.

  • jackieO

    GH is awesome right now!
I love that ALL the characters are getting storylines.
I don’t want to see the same storyline every day.
Variety is the spice of life.
There is something on that show for everyone now.

  • triviatwitt

Y & R and GH bore me to tears.

  • David

What cracks me up is everyone on here has a favorite soap. Instead of discussing the good of that, they all sit here and take pot shots at the other soaps. WHy not be positive about the genre. We only have a few soaps left, instead of all the hate and negativity saying one soap is better than the other is ridiculous. All soaps are in such a better place than they were one year ago That is definitely something to celebrate

  • ohiogirl

I haven’t had opportunity to post in a while…it seems Days has taken some of my advice.
    1. Ej and Samantha together is a GREAT thing for writing and acting.
    2. I see a spark of Roman having a romantic storyline…WONDERFUL! we want to see more of Josh Taylor.
    3. I LOVE the Eric Brady storyline…this young man is a terrific actor. I hope they don’t just fall into the old “Nichole chases an unavailable man” storyline again. There is so much viable material with Eric as a serious priest. Anyone in the clergy could give the writers a millenium of material without going that direction…and this young man can obviously handle any story he’s given.
    4. I hated to see Jack go, as he’s always been one of my favorites, but Melissa Reeves is keeping the stories involving Daniel, Chloe, and Abbey current and fun

  • ohiogirl

btw…what little I watch B&B will disappear if they go to an hour…B&B is like a hot fudge brownie…A little is perfect, but too much is NOT a good thing. Keep it short and sweet!

Thought some might find this interesting:

On Saturday, April 6, fans of ABC’s “General Hospital” will be able to learn more about the 50 year history of one of television’s longest running programs. On that day, ABC News will feature the soap during that night’s airing of “20/20,” Soap Opera Network has learned.

“GH’s” Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall) tweeted on Monday, “Just finished a sit down interview with 20/20 for #gh 50 year anniversary. #blessed #proud #honored.” Lisa LoCicero (Olivia Falconeri) also tweeted about being part of the episode. “But the lovely man doing the story for ’20/20? did tell me i am a ‘sound bite machine’…” More star appearances are expected to be announced next week along with the timeslot in which fans can expect to tune in.

Also this from soap opera network
Due to the Wednesday, March 13 pre-emption of “GH,” the soaps planned 50th anniversary episode will now air on Tuesday, April 2, per a revised sheduling update issued by the network to Soap Opera Network. The Friday, March 29 episode, which was to feature the returns of such “GH” legends as Rachel Aimes (Audrey Hardy), Stuart Damon (Alan Quartermaine) and Chris Robinson (Rick Webber) will now air on Monday, April 1, which is 50 years to the day since the soap premiered on ABC.
