Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    Expect a boost for “Community” next week. It saw its highest ratings last season for the 2 weeks when CBS aired the NCAA tournament.

  2. Bubba666

    Get rid of Nikki and Mariah and the Idol ratings will got up. Nikki’s a walking train wreck and Mariah’s the “Oh, So entitled” diva. BARF!!!!

  3. Ted Craig

    @JH

    That seems to make NBC look even worse – only three markets, all fairly small. Granted, no really huge markets for the others, but more of them.

  4. Wright

    Good for TVD staying above 1.0. Great for Elementary staying steady.

  5. Petar

    @I can’t figure out POI’s ratings for the life of me. I was dreading coming to this site to see if it kept falling. Now with increased competition this week it is up? Weird.

    Nielsen thursday ratings are strange. The same happen with Greys this season.

    ps By the way nielsen was catch in EUROPE in TURKEY with fake ratings. You can check it in google. I don’t remmember what was exactly but some shows take boost other was down and all channels was affected too. It was big scandal

    @ Bill Clinton

    If you don’t like it, why waste time coming to this site and posting your complaints?

  7. Flynny

    It’s that dingbat with all the stupid whigs, I cant watch anymore.

  8. Hardline_Pro

    Even though basketball delayed it, POI still went up. :D

    @Bubba666

    Actually, I have really enjoyed Nicki Minaj on the show. Her critiques are very well thought out it seems and she has the total package Idol is looking for. As for Mariah, I have always enjoyed her music but at first I did not like her on the show she seemed like she did nto really know what to say. Now she is great and a fresh voice at the end of the judging table.

    K. Urban is great too. They all are.

  10. Petar

    wow old and expensive TAHM with lower BBT lead in was hit hard. Without BBT lead old veteran will collapse.

  11. 6 seasons and a movie

    @ Bill Clinton,

    Ratings determine whether a show gets cancelled or not. If you have a favourite show or two this is obviously important.

    @ Bill clinton

    Why come here?

  13. BG

    Get rid of the two clown judges Minaj and Carey and you’ll get your viewers back. Nicki keeps telling the guys and the gals how she wants her way with them and Mariah keeps fanning herself and crying. This is an embarrassment to viewers. I am sure Keith and Randy are getting ready to strangle both of them. It’s ridiculous.

    What I think is pretty good for POI fans is that; people tune into see The Big Bang Theory, then a few leave when 2 1/2 men comes on, then most or a new audience comes in to watch POI.

    I wonder would POI or even some of the other shows benefit from being moved to another night, such as Sunday Night for POI.

  15. Tony ^_^

    There seems to be no end to “Idol’s” downward slide.

    Awful ratings at NBC… Lol at a “Law and Order” repeat doing better than “Smash” or “Do No Harm”…

  16. a p garcia

    Daylight Savings Time wins the night!

  17. Trevor

    Good ratings for The Big Bang Theory despite it not being on in 10 states. For me it was the best episode of the series. Good for VD too.

  18. JP

    @qrwanda

    LOL – I want HR brought down as well – just think it is a great storyline along w/Elias, Root, etc. All fantastic acting that has me on the edge of my seat every week… not to mention how amazing Michael Emerson is as well. Of course i am not rooting for the bad guys, but there are so many of them around you never know when or where they will turn up. Outstanding writing!!!

  19. Brian J

    @Dan S:

    Yeah, Saturdays would be a stretch, but Fridays might be interesting. The shows might carry over the same audience, and that’d be a boost for NBC. It could put anything it wants after those shows, Grimm or something new, in this example, and it’d be a way for the network to revamp Thursdays.

    @Ted Craig:

    Why would preemptions really affect NBC more than any other network?
