TV Ratings Friday: 'Touch', 'Grimm' and 'Last Man Standing' Down + 'Nikita' & 'Blue Bloods' Rise

ABC and CBS tied for number one in adults 18-49 while CBS was on top with total viewers.

Please Note: On the first Friday of Daylight Saving Time, overall Adult 18-49 TV usage was down -5% on the night, with even sharper declines from 7-8pm (-8%) and from 9-10pm (-6%). Plus, while we haven't received any specific information, there were likely plenty of local pre-emptions for college basketball last night. Adjustments in the final ratings are likely to be more significant than usual.

On ABC, Last Man  Standing earned a 1.3, down two tenths from last week's 1.5 adults 18-49 rating. Malibu Country garnered a 1.0, down three tenths from last week's 1.3 adults 18-49 rating. 20/20 earned a 1.4, down two tenths after last week's 1.6 adults 18-49 rating.

On CBS,  Blue Bloods garnered a 1.7, up three tenths from last week's 1.4 among adults 18-49.

On NBC Fashion Star was even with last week's 0.8 adults 18-49 rating.  Grimm scored a 1.4, down a tenth from last week's  1.5 adults 18-49 rating.   Rock Center garnered a 0.7, down two tenths from last week's 0.9 among adults 18-49.

On Fox, Kitchen Nightmares earned a 1.1, down a tenth from last week's 1.2, and Touch earned a 0.6, down a tenth from last week's  0.7 rating.

On the CW, Nikita earned a 0.5  adults 18-49 rating up two tenths from last week’s 0.3. Cult scored a 0.3, up a tenth from last week's 0.2 among adults 18-49.

In Late-Night Metered Markets Friday night: 

*	In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 2.5/6; CBS's "Late Show with David
Letterman," 2.5/6; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.9/5 with an
encore. 

*	In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49
Wednesday results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 0.8/4; "Late
Show," 0.5/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.8/3 with an encore.  

*	From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET Wednesday night, ABC's "Nightline"
averaged a 1.2/4 in metered-market households and a 0.5/2 in 18-49 in
the Local People Meters.

*	From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.6/5
in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig
Ferguson" (1.3/4).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late
Night" (0.7/4 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.4/3).

*	The 0.7 for Jimmy Fallon is his highest Friday rating in the
Local People Meters in 10 weeks, since January 4 (0.7), and equals the
top "Late Night" Friday result since July 20, 2012 (0.9), the night of
the London Olympics Opening Ceremony.  Friday's guests included Justin
Timberlake and Hayden Panettiere and Timberlake was also the musical
guest.

*	At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.9/3 in
metered-market households with an encore and a 0.5/3 in adults 18-49
in the 25 markets with local people meters.

*	The 0.5 for Carson Daly is his highest Friday rating in the
Local People Meters in 13 months, since February 3, 2012 (0.5).

Definitions:

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.  More information on ratings is available here.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    I just realized that Malibu Country’s is this season’s most watched new comedy and that’s pretty good for a comedy that started its run on a Friday in its first season. I have no doubts that ABC will bring it back the only question really is if they bring back Happy Endings or Neighbors?

    I still dont see what is bad with these LMS and MC ratings. Let’s break this down.

    First, they are shows on ABC, a struggling network for the past 6 years.

    Second, they are comedies on ABC, a struggling comedy network that only has 1 major comedy hit, Modern Family, and 3 other somewhat successful comedies, The Neighbors, The Middle, and Suburgatory, all only on ONE comedy night.

    Third, they are FRIDAY shows. Friday is the place where shunned TV shows go for burnoffs, same with Saturday also.

    Fourth, they are FRIDAY shows in the 8PM FRIDAY DEATH SLOT.

    Fifth, they are FRIDAY shows on ABC.

    Sixth, they are scripted FRIDAYS shows on ABC. ABC has always had trouble with scripted comedies and dramas, especially on FRIDAYS, which is why they have stuck with basic reality/news programming such as 20/20, Shark Tank, and Primetime.

    Finally, these shows do GREAT in viewers on FRIDAY. What comedies get more than 6 million viewers on an average basis on Friday on ABC? ABC’s last trip with TGIF Comedy Block, comedies like Hope&Faith averaged 3-4 million and were DOA from the start. These shows have showed they can stick around for awhile. The Premiere of MC received over 9 million viewers and a 2.3, better than CBS’s landmark FRIDAY procedural’s Blue Bloods and CSI: NY premieres. Even though low 1’s in the demo usually call for cancellation, on FRIDAY that is average and so is 5-7 million viewers, which is pretty valuable for FRIDAY shows, especially scripted.

    Not that it means anything, but Hawaii Five-0 had the highest number of viewers at 9pm with a rerun. It is one of the best episodes. The show is
    repeating well this season.

    There’s nothing wrong with the ABC comedy ratings all people need to do is see how the other comedies excluding Middle and MF on the network are performing and they’ll get their answer.

    But H50 R was too the one with the strongest lead in in total viewers.
    And Shark Tank R and Grimm gained demo and total viewers after the lead in. H50 R didn’t.
    H50 repeats r weaker than the other CBS repeats.

    Seasons #1 watched comedy. Way to go, Malibu Country. I an waiting for a second season. It will have its storyline kicked up a bit now that it has laid its groundwork. Some of the favorite shows have lower ratings, but a lot of support.Do you really think ABC is going to drop Malibu Country without giving it a second chance? I do not think so.

    Horrible for MC. It does not deserve a 2nd season. Shark Tank repeats are just amazing. Where are the syndication deals?

    Ok for Grimm. Rock Center has got to go and FS needs to move to Saturday.

    I dont believe BB rated that high so will wait for finals.

    Still shocking FOX gave Touch a 2nd season. What a waste.

    NBC needs shows other than Grimm.

    ABC needs 2-hour TGIF block. Move Shark Tank to Thursday or Tuesday.

    CBS Good Wife-Blue Bloods double bill could hit.

    FOX meh.

    Well Nikita didnt have much room to go down anymore so i guess going up a little was pretty much a given. But it will be adjusted down just like it is every week. This show is so dead.. its really pathetic the CW bothered to keep it on.
