The Bible Satan

The History Channel has issued a statement about the resemblance some viewers noted between Satan in the channel's miniseries The Bible and President Obama.

via press release:

“HISTORY channel has the highest respect for President Obama. The series was produced with an international and diverse cast of respected actors. It's unfortunate that anyone made this false connection. HISTORY’s ‘The Bible’ is meant to enlighten people on its rich stories and deep history.”

From “The Bible” Executive Producers, Mark Burnett & Roma Downey:

“This is utter nonsense. The actor who played Satan, Mehdi Ouzaani, is a highly acclaimed Moroccan actor. He has previously played parts in several Biblical epics– including Satanic characters long before Barack Obama was elected as our President.”

Executive Producer, Roma Downey added, "Both Mark and I have nothing but respect and love our President, who is a fellow Christian. False statements such as these are just designed as a foolish distraction to try and discredit the beauty of the story of The Bible.”

    They should have made him look like Simon Cowell!

    @Morgan and @Holly

    Satan is not played by a black guy. Mehdi Ouazanni is North African (Arab and Berber origin). Last time I checked, North Africans are classified as whites both by scientists and the US census bureau.

    @Joseoh lmao now that would make me watch it

    The Truth be told…Finally!!

    There is no such thing as bad publicity.

    The ears!! I need to see the ears before making a public statement about similarities.

    So the producers of the Bible who also have produced Sarah Palin’s Alaska and Trump’s Apprentice want us to believe that this is just a coincident that their Satan is a dead ringer for our President.

    @Holly
    There is a long and uncomfortable history in Britain and Continental Europe of portraying the Devil (and demons) as a black man. Think Krampus or especially Zwarte Piet, who are usually played by white men in blackface. It doesn’t help that the latter is a specifically Muslim stereotype.

    I think Morgan has a point. It’s not that the Devil should only ever be played by a white man. It’s that having a black man play him brings in a lot of old and ugly racist stereotypes. Ignoring them (which is what the History Channel appears to have tried to do) doesn’t make them go away.

    Not that this particular series has been all that great. I enjoyed the first part with Abraham and Lot, but it’s been downhill to Snoozeville ever since.

    Why are Bible stories being broadcast on The History Channel in the first place? If I were interested in Religion , there are other channels i.e.: Christian Broadcast Channel. I like my History to be about REAL History. Maybe a show about the effects of Religion and the Bible on Society as a whole but, NOT Bible as TRUTH/History. It’s nothing more then a glorified Comic Book. R Crumb would be Proud!

  • Tellitlikeitis

    Wow, some nasty Christophobes on here.

  • Reality

    @Tellitlikeitis Plenty of nasty christians on here as well.

    Who cares if he was born in another country, he beat Grandpa MaCain and the the Noth Slope Queen by 10 million votes and he also beat Raw Money and Appalling Ryan by 5 million votes he is the best man for the job at hand but the Republicans can’t win unless thay cheat anyway. The racist can’t stand the fact that there is a black man in their White House.

  • Rob Willhelm

    If far right elements of the Republican Party do indeed represent what Christianity has come to be, Christianity is in need of another reformation!

  • MadSat

    And it’s just a coincidence that FOX owns History Channel. I doubt that very much. Murdoch is just this kind of animal, anything for a controversy to gouge up a little more cash from the sheep.

    Where did you read that?

    @cold340t

    Both A&E and the History Channel have done tons of Bible stories over the years, especially back in the 90s. This is just a drama based on the Bible rather than a documentary. That’s the only difference.

    The producers of The Bible gave money to Obama’s campaign. I doubt if they were purposely trying to find an actor who looked like Obama to play Satan. That said, he DOES look like Obama, LOL!
