With nothing new in the ABC predictions this week, and plenty of people continuing to ask the Cancellation Bear about Happy Endings, I figured I could throw it into the headline this week. I have no way of accurately guessing whether a cable network will want to pick it up, but fans are kidding themselves if they think ABC will renew it.
In other news, Body Of Proof ratings remain woeful, but if the California tax credit saved it last season, it could save it again this season. And I'm keeping Malibu Country as a "toss up" for now, hoping to be aided by either a late season ratings surge or dive. That would get me to make a change before the end of the season and get it into the headline.
Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.
From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, the "old" Fall predictions will carry over.
Notes:
-
- certain to be cancelled by May, 2013 -
- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013 -
- toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013 -
- more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013 -
- certain to be renewed by May, 2013
The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
I don’t think anyone thought ABC would renew Happy Endings. TBS is our only hope!
“I don’t think anyone thought ABC would renew Happy Endings. “
Hmmmm, seems like that sentiment had not yet filtered down to TimsDale4ever…
It’s not fair. Abc wanted to start another comedy so they took their best show from a great spot and put it where the competition was too crazy. Happy Endings was getting 3′s after Modern Family. Suburgatory can’t do that.
It’s not fair.
And?
Although TBS might be the only hope for Happy Endings, it kinda seems impossible because it would be hard for negotiations. It is produced by Sony and ABC. Well, i think that it might be cancelled at some point. If renewed, it would be a shock. If change network, it might move to TBS, Netflix or FX.
Suburgatory looked a far better fit for MF. Somehow it wasn’t. Frankly, I don’t know how either.
Can’t wait to see Revenge in the headline as commenter bait next week if there’s still nothing new!
Im sorry, but I do think ABC will pull another miracle and renew Body of Proof. It is crazily stable with the demo and viewers. Every episode has ranked in a 1.2-1.3 and 6.3-6.9 million viewers. There has not even been the smallest dip yet.

“But Mommy, I would have passed that exam if that mean old teacher had only let me sit by the class valedictorian!!”
:rolleyes:
Too bad about HE but I’ll enjoy what’s left of it. I don’t expect anyone to air it after this season ends. Saw the last of 666PA online and now just hoping the end of Apt 23 is posted online some time.
I must say Im shocked ABC is showing promos for HE. I actually think theres a very very slim chance it can be renewed and get According to Jim scheduling if it can pull low 1s.
Anyone who has The Neighbors airing in the same timeslot next year doesnt have a clue.
Best case scenario TBS picks it up for both quality reasons (The show fits in very well with their demographic) and for syndication (similar to Cougar Town 2 more 15 ep seasons will get the show to 87 eps) it may be wishful thinking but CT’s pickup last season and good TBS numbers gives everyone hope.
@Bram
What are you talking about. Happy Endings got a 1.9 this time of year last year.
As far as we know Happy Endings, B!tch, Suburgatory, and The Neighbors are on the same boat with the latter two getting the lifeboat.
I don’t agree Happy Endings is certain to be canceled for the moment. It has been underrated for most of its existence. The Friday ratings for April are likely to determine whether this prediction is true or not.
@Bill
I must say you do have a wonderful, and large, collection of bear-themed “art work” to attach to these articles and updates.
@TimsDaleForever
How the heck did you get the, “Noooo…” run outside the box?! :-O
@Rebecca – where did you see the remaining episodes of 666PA? The ones they never aired? I’ve been waiting for ABC to release or air them and haven’t seen any updates. I hate the cliffhanger they left us in!
@Rob60990 – Agreed if renewed The Neighbors will likely be moved off the Wednesday ship to maybe Tuesday at 8 with another comedy like Suburgatory so it frees up Wed at 830 and 930 for possibly HTLWYP if renewed and a new comedy.
I’m surprised at the promotion but it seems that ABC loves promoting Happy Endings no matter what terrible slot it lands in.
“Body Of Proof ratings remain woeful, but if the California tax credit saved it last season”
Do we actually have any hard evidence of that*? From my standpoint it looked like a bog standard “We need a procedural for emergency spackle, we have no existing options, and they’re cutting the budget enough to make it be an option.”
*In fact, the little speculation on the matter I’ve seen suggested that the larger tax credit windfall only kicked in if the show had a standard 22 episode season, which did not happen.
@Rebecca
Nice name
The whole season of 666PA is on the project free tv site (Google it and you’ll find it). I saw episodes 10-13 there. They had only shown up through #9 on TV. I gave up waiting to see if they might air those episodes in the summer.
@Bill said: “And I’m keeping Malibu Country as a “toss up” for now, hoping to be aided by either a late season ratings surge or dive. That would get me to make a change before the end of the season and get it into the headline.”
Uhm, March 22nd, aka this Friday, is the last episode of Malibu Country of this season/series airs. So, there is no ratings surge/dive possible, since we all know that you don’t go based off of one data point & in any case, I doubt that it will go up or down more than 2 or 3 demo points.
